Making Draco Malfoy's Wand - from real Hawthorn Wood!

Bit of a simpler wand so tried to show some of the other stages of milling the timber and kept a lot of the turning shots at real speed.

I know it's not one of the more complicated looking wands, but the simplicity of Draco's wand just looks so beautiful and makes it one of my favorites. Amazing job!

That’s because his is real wood and the “official” prop version is cast resin.
The wands he compares his to are not the original they are replicas and are not made with as much effort as the ones they used in the movies.

Even in the movies, they use different props for different scenes, and the only ones that are detailed are the ones that get used in closeups.

It was cool seeing the production jig for this wand, that must be a huge timesaver.

It's my favorite wand. The design is so fascinatingly simple. However, I prefer the feather of phoenix or thunderbird as core.
Fun fact about Draco's wand: when *_Prisoner of Azkaban_* was being made, and Alfonso Cuarón started changing the wand desings, Tom Felton said that he wanted to keep his original wand from the first two movies because it worked for him. Before Year 3, all the wands were very simple, and all looked very similar to one another.
Because Tom wanted his wand's design to remain the same, that makes Draco Malfoy's wand one of the very few wands that stayed the same throughout the whole saga.

Snape's wand has some cool designs on it. Would be cool to see.
It makes a fantastic change to see some one using turning chisels properly....so many people dont know how to use the bevel to get that true clean cut or what height to set the rest at.. I really hate it when people sand stuff to shape. Your use of stains is second to none too

True fact about this scene
It was cut from the film in the end but during the first take of this scene, when Tom Felton (the actor of Draco Malfoy) was touching the shop item, Jason Isaacs (the actor of Lucius Malfoy) came in and smacked his hand with his cane for the scene, but Jason didn’t realise that the head of the cane (which is a snake head) had two very sharp fangs in the mouth of it, so when Jason smacked Toms hand, the fangs cut into his skin, Tom turned and looked at Jason with tears welling in his eyes. After they were done with that take, Jason felt really bad and went to Tom and apologised, and Tom just said to Jason “no it’s alright, it’s alright, it was good for the scene”
Keep in mind that Tom was 11 years old at the time

What paint do you generally use for the wood? Trynna make myself some wood wands but dont know what paint will go well on it
This is just car paint - nothing special but it is important to use a primer

Do you reckon you could give Voldemorts wand a go? I mean a screen accurate one, the Noble Collection one is too straight, the one we see on screen has a slight curve in the shaft. I'm sure you could do it justice.

I regained my sight after 2 months, the wand of Harry's father - James is made of red wood, I can’t say directly what kind of wood is needed, but yes. Hermione’s wand is also made of grapevine and Ron's wand is made of willow, I'll be waiting for you to make some of those wands that I said
