*Plot Driving*
The symbolic significance of everyone driving and on the road can't be overstated. Macy, Brooke and Thorne have all been trying to control the plot and now Thorne thinks he's driving it toward an amicable conclusion but instead Macy is going to steer it toward an explosive climax. Brooke helpless in the passenger seat is a sign that she has lost control of the plot and is now being carried along for the ride. And Kimberly driving (albeit peacefully) foreshadows her attempt after Macy's funeral to drive the plot herself and get revenge on Brooke. I've written many times before about how B&B borrows from Classic American Literature and this driving trope is lifted directly from _The Great Gatsby_ where the climactic moment in the novel involves all the main characters in two separate cars and a deadly collision that alters all of their fates.
Your so right about that
Yes. Great analogy to Gatsby. Car wrecks are dramatic and suspenseful means of killing off characters. Too bad it had to be Macy and not Brooke.
Great comparison Nick
I love that analysis! And Macy even refers to this explicitly in the car by saying "we're going to do this my way" and "how does it feel, someone else controlling your life?" - echoing the one time she has taken control of the plot before (the Anthony storyline, where she also asserted plot control by saying "we're doing this my way").
Great point about the symbolic significance of driving. Many important pieces of classic early to mid century American literature focus on the open road and travel: the possibilities it represented, the opening up of new frontiers and new adventures. In today’s episode everyone is similarly driving toward a new destiny for all of them, albeit a very dark one.
I also thought there was something very film noir-ish about the night cinematography of the driving scenes in this episode, which perhaps was also deliberate.
Becky's closer: "Be Kind. Please Rewind."
Best line of the episode Macy saying Thorne doesn't really know Brooke. And she is right because she pretends to be good with her men and she shows her real self only to the women she is in competition.
Your so right about that
💯 true 👍
Yes!
Indeed.
And case in point... Thorne calling jonathon saying no rush on the divorce papers, while his mattress...i mean.. Mistress...is rushing Macy to sign the divorce papers
CJ: "That probably meant that Thorne screwed up!" Exactly.
🎯
CJ was on the money
The "see you next week!" at 8:47 goes by almost unnoticed, as if it were just unimportant background noise, but if you look closely this goodbye is meant for the poor truck driver who has an hour left to live, making it quite poignant in retrospect. This woman is just having an ordinary day at work, and yet in just a little while she will heroically risk (and ultimately sacrifice) her life without a moment's hesitation to save a total stranger (Macy).
Macy should've told Brooke, "See You Next Tuesday!" 🤭
Really good eye there!
Macy stepped on Brooke's motor-boat: 0:10
Your so right about that
😂😂 Macy wants to make sure Thorne can't "motor" Brooke again
@@jonfoerster😂🤣😂
Not Macy stepping all over Brooke's nightie... 😂😂
No man is worth dying for!
Smh the car accident took the wrong one, and even after this and at Macys funeral he STILL a didn’t get it and was making Brooke out to be a victim
If homewrecker Brooklyn wasn't so desperate for Thorne to be divorced none of this accident business that killed Macy wouldn't happened lol
Thorne didn't even ask her to bring those divorce papers to the cabin she is definitely desperate to have a man around since Ridge isn't available lol
The makeup people know how to make Becky look like death because they've been doing that to Brooke for years.
🤣😂😆
Brooke looks hot 🔥
I literally hated the 2000-2004 theme.
Brooke ain’t nothing but a homewrecker, smh 🤦🏽♂️ Macy didn’t tell one lie about that SFTV. After a year, the relationship didn’t last.
Thank God I'm not the only one who hated that "revamped" theme song.
I prefer the current updated one even
The confr o n tation between Macy and Brooke in Big Bear is a "mirror scene" to the one between _Stephanie_ and Brooke in Big Bear in the beginning of this storyline (Season 12). In both of these cabin scenes, Stephanie and Macy are furiously out of control compared to their usual selves, and completely consumed with protecting Thorne from Brooke's eviI infIuence (although Stephanie comes across as more genuinely scary than Macy does). This confirms what I've said earlier about how from Venice on, Macy stepped into Stephanie's role in this storyline. And now as we are approaching the culmination of the storyline, Macy is the one being sacrificed in Stephanie's place.
Becky still looks better than Brooke.
☠️💀🤣😂
Everyone looks better than brooke
You don’t have to go after the actor’s looks though
Brooke begs Macy to slow down three times, yet during the whole scene there is another car behind them keeping pace 😆 and if Brooke was so damn scared, why wouldn’t she at least put on her seatbelt?! Good grief. 🥴
I keep thinking there are a hundred things Brooke could have said to Macy that would _actually_ have made her slow down. Like, for example, reminding her how devastated her mother would be if she had an accident. But that would take Brooke actually trying to show compassion.
@@annieo6527 Brooke isn't a good mother to her own children and she was a bad daughter to Beth, so she wouldn't understand that connection.
@@annieo6527that would involve Brooke actually thinking about someone other than herself.
@@annieo6527 Yet we're expected to believe Brooke feels things deeply
Brooke should have kept her mouth shut. Why did she tell Macy there was nothing she could do? Macy definitely did something as did Stephanie when she also tried to kill Brooke. God I hate Brooke.
Well, Macy was wasting her time.
And taking Brooke to Thorne would have made macy more embarrassed.
The fallout of what would happen to Brooke and Thorne relationship is just 😆everyone tried to warn him even though he deserved it what bs macy had went through just for Brooke to say what they all warned him of in some way even if it was just hints of him knowing macy was alive and him realizing the mistake he made and went to find her and that’s how him and Brooke ended but karma got him at the end the hissy fit he threw at Brooke when he found out Brooke was just using him as a place holder was priceless
Now i miss my mom we always watched this together
Throughout the Brooke/Macy scene, Macy is teetering on the brink of in san i ty. You can see her edging closer, then puIIing herself back, again and again, by alternately thre at en ing Brooke and trying to get away from her. But every time Macy tries to put a "safety margin" between herself and Brooke (physically or mentally), Brooke advances, cornering Macy. Then finally, in the last thirty seconds of the car scene, Macy goes over the edge.
There are actually similarities between this scene and the Macy/Anthony scene from S8 in that in both scenes, Macy reaches a point where she is so ang ry that she no longer cares whether she lives or dies, as long as her antagonist doesn't get his/her way. And then disaster strikes, and Macy comes to her senses and becomes rationaI again, and focused on surviving and saving others.
The first episode with the new 2000-2004 theme! :)
I remember watching this exact episode, before Macy's demise, that's how the music theme for Bold and the Beautiful had changed! It has moved into a new level of era!
Honestly I don’t like Brooke because of how she treated Macy
I never liked her...but this storyline is when I despised her and throne...they were both so out and out cruel and selfish. Especially brooke. Going to the cabin to pisg divorce papers in macys face. It's just beyond cruel.
Oh, Macy. Don't say you don't have anything left to Iive for. You have a great family - an awesome mother, an awesome brother, an -awesome- okay sister... 😂
(Well, actually, questionable moraIs and questionable hair styling aside, Kimberly has been a good sister to Macy lately.)
Macy, akshually, has wayyyy more to live for than Brooke.
All Brooke has, is her dysfunction.
@@TriniT21 I mean, just knowing that _Sally Spectra_ is in your corner is enough to make anyone's life worth living.
@@annieo6527 right!
I want to get adopted by Sally into the Spectra family ❤️
Kimberly is far more likeable when she's around the Spectras, especially Macy.
@@leviaj1 Yes, exactly! I liked the last few Kimberly/Macy scenes.
Becky is married to CJ Wouldn't that give CJ custody
Lol Becky looks like a zombie from Walking Dead....
Are you happy now Throne and Brooke is that worth it now you two had to worry about of facing the wrath of Spectra’s family even Stephanie
Too bad Brook made it if there is a accident
She is miserable
Your so right about that
Brooke's like a cockroach, they don't die.
@@dsteph2789 wish she would just go away
@@dsteph2789😂😅👍
I know we're meant to think Macy's having a mental breakdown and that she's becoming unhinged, but I see this as her reclaiming her agency, at least to an extent. She's standing up to Brooke, a woman who's done nothing but belittle and patronize her, and takes control of her selfhood once again.
Can we all agree that this Becky stuff is creepy? 🤣🤣
I wish people would stop with all these cancer story line and sudden deaths! It’s getting on my damn nerves!
….you don’t have to watch. Also this happened almost 30 years ago so a lil complaining about it.
They really went overboard with Becky’s makeup.
Looks like zombie make up!
Instead of looking realistic it looks campy. 🥴
@Esi-741 she looks like a blast victim from “The Day After” - just awful!
When she reached towards the screen I half expected her to walk right through it, like in The Ring.
@@DonaldTaft 😂😂🤣
Brooke really doesn't learn😂😂😂
Getting Forresters women angry at big bear cabin normally after all these conflicts she shouldn't even think of going there again
Silly me thought “why would they update the opening and keep Macy in if she was exiting??” Boy was I wrong!
When I first heard the 2000-2004 theme, it sounded okay but I do miss the previous theme.
The longer theme sounded okay, but I HATED this screechy 'nails on a chalkboard' opening theme.
Imagine expecting the usual opening theme and then getting this hot mess. 😒
Oh Brooke. Macy is _thisclose_ to a complete emotional breakdown and she's driving a speeding car down a mountain road. Just. Be. Quiet.
And also Brooke: bite your tongue!
Listen.. I would run myself straight off the road as well if I had to hear Brooke screeching in my ear
Pause at 20:01. The stuff of nightmares 😱😬😮
20:01 How culd any man want this 🗑 ?!
😂
I replayed it twice 😂. She looks worse than Becky in zombie makeup lol
@@TriniT21it was a horrifying thing to see for sure. 😂
20:02 😲 hahahaha
I feel sad about Macy, I like the character. But she was a homicidal maniac here. Nothing justifies her actions. If she hadn't died she'd be thrown in jail.
I totally agree😮
Why did Brooke jump in the car?
Honestly.. Brooke screeching in my ear would make me run off the road, too
Brooke pushed her over the edge. She got that woman so enraged she didn't care who lived or dies.d. and no one goes to jail in a soap opera. For more than a handful of episodes
Thirty seconds of insanity after weeks of being put through heII. Macy was not of sound mind and that would probably reduce her sentence. Besides, she redeemed herself afterwards by saving Brooke's life, which would also have been a point in her favor.
And the only way there would be a case against her is if she turned herself in, because only Macy can know what her intentions were (and given her state of mind maybe even she wasn't fully aware of her own intentions).
?? Brooke is guilty for Macy's lost sobriety?? Thorne is bad?
Why doesn't Macy finally take responsibility for her own problems?
Macy may be an alcoholic but she did not create the situation that drove her to drink. She was pushed beyond her limits. And Thorne has been treating Macy horribly.
She had, she was ready to sign the damn papers and to go to the reab. She was willing to move far away from that mess. I think you skipped the dinner with Thorne.
Help me understand this y'all. In soap opera time, Becky died "last night", her funeral was "today" and Macy died "tonight"?
On soaps things always seem to be so rushed. If Becky had had more family or friends, they wouldn't have been able to make it to the funeral with such short notice (Becky died last night. We are going to bury Becky today).
Trying to understand sequences of events in "soap time" is like trying to rub your belly and pat your head at the same time lol. You just can't keep up! Lol
Yes, in soap time, it's only been two days.
@@TriniT21 😂😂😂
I wonder if Macy’s death was another reason for Cj took take him away from Rick
Brook wants everybodys husband. She is too pushy let Thorn the husband serve the papers not you the side chick.
Crikey Macy, you can’t assault people, hold them against their will and steal their car. I suspect she had not fully sobered up as she was drunk when she left for big bear. Seemed a bit of a stretch she was sober when Thorne arrived a few hours later.
Nobody asked Brooke to jump in that car.
Your so right about that
@@babs4848just like no one told Brooke to start sleeping with yet another married man
Macy didn't go looking for Brooke to do any of this. Had Brooke stayed home as she should have, and not gone sticking her nose where it didn't belong and needling Macy unnecessarily, she'd be home in her bed and her car safely in the garage.
Same way Brooke shows up in Steph's house uninvited and then gets mad when she gets insulted by the owner of the house.. She has no cause to be there.
Assaulted?
Brooke jumped in the car.
Macy was trying to get away from her.
When you push someoen to the edge.....you get what you deserve
Thank you so much for this really great episode and I hope that everyone is having a great day too
The beginning of the end with this "revamped" theme song.
RIP to the best version of the theme song (March 23 1987 - July 5 2000)
I am so surprised that the new theme debuted in the middle of the week as opposed to Monday. RIP to the best theme ever.
@@PaisaEsteban this was very random. I remember it premiering on a Wednesday our side (Bold was a year behind in South Africa, so this version premiered in December of 2001)
@bongileaugust If the airdate listed here is correct, then it debuted in the US on a Thursday, which is still surprising since most times new opening themes debuted on a Monday.
@PaisaEsteban not only this theme though. The two that followed premiered on Friday from what I've read on and then the current premiered again on a Thursday which was the 30th anniversary of the show
Macy and Brooke car accident
Yes and it's gonna be sad
Well we know nothing happens to Brooke because we are STUCK with her for 25 more years
Wow they really messed up Becky's makeup even in real life nobody looks like that lol
Did "The Ring" come out before or after this episode?
14 cast members in the updated opening.
I jnow Brooke is wrong. But never cared for Macy. Dont like what they did to her character. Just like Sly!
Brooke brought this on herself. Interesting with Brooke, she is shocked when someone has a negative reaction to her behavior, which Brooke created. What made them decide to change Kimberly's hair color?
omg i never saw this episode! brooke laying on the floor and macy putting her feet on her like she is nothing is WOW
Kimberly looks better with dark hair instead of blonde
So this was the episode that first had the new theme.
Since 2017 they are using the 2000-2004 theme with a remix
