Hi David, great update and very enjoyable to watch. I’m very impressed by the train with 30 wagons/cars, looking forward to more running from the Highland Valley railway. Take care. Oscar
Thank you Oscar. I've run into a period of inspiration to work on the layout. It all started with the idea of replacing just one piece of track but by the end of this week I may well have the yard completed to permanent track. I didn't show the big train in reverse but it does go around backwards quite well. More running to come I'm sure. Cheers, David.
Hello Jonathan. The trackwork is straightforward to me. It has taken me many years to design, build and test this but I'm now satisfied with it so I'm committing my good track to it now. Thus far it is working well and I should have the yard completed this week. I think it looks much better just getting some base colour painted under the rails. Cheers, David.
There's always plenty to do John, finding the time is the problem. I'm extremely pleased with the pulp mill and can't wait to start running trains to service it. David.
In the mood right now Sparky, so might as well get it done. I could use some volunteer operators for a running session. I'm trying to recruit some but they are few and far between here.
Great update David. Lots of progress. The building by the cupboard is coming along nicely with all the extra detail in place and to go on. Great work. Happy Modelling Mon
Hello Peter. The cold snap is only expected to last a week so confinement to the basement won't be too difficult. If you think about it, real life is never finished either, there's always some change happening somewhere. Not really a running session, just testing my track changes. Take care, David.
Hi Mike, I'm in the mood for working on the layout and having fun getting various things checked off the "To Do" list. When the yard tracks are all done I look forward to some operating again. Cheers, David
Hi David, great video and good to see you're making a lot of progress! Re the tall building at the pulp mill, I should think if you mask off the whole of the light grey area with masking tape at the top and old paper or card covering the lower part, and then spray the green with the aerosol (or air brush, not sure which you use) pointing at an upward angle with light coats, the paint shouldn't tend to creep downwards under the making tape? All the best, Steve
Hi Steve, yes, I'm enjoying a burst of energy on the layout. I purposely set out to take my time with the pulp mill project intending on having something to be proud of for years to come rather than a quick build. (I've had the kit for over 20 years.) Your suggestion for the painting is close to my own thoughts on it. right now I must wait for the weather in order to spray paint it. The track work has been a bit of a surprise to me. I have known that it had to be done for again a few years but it seemed to be a monumental undertaking. Once started though it must be carried through. Slow and methodical is my approach to that too. At better than 50% finished now, I am very pleased with the test results of running trains through it. Regards, David.
The problem with ballasting is that it is so permanent Dave. I had to remove some yesterday in order to connect wiring to a section of track. I think it will get done though. Hope the weather hasn't been bashing you around too much. Cheers, David.
Thanks for the update,on your pulpmill area, what if the table it is on the legs had wheels?Just a thought. You are making progress that is fantastic, we just finished our -40 weather,we are slowly warming up,stay warm ,talk to you later have a great day David.
Thank you Ray. We are coming out of the cold spell now as well. We could be as high as +9c by the end of next week by the looks of the forecast. I'm enjoying the work both on the track work and the pulp mill, having great fun getting everything to fit together. The problem with putting wheels on that pulp mill section is that there just isn't anywhere to wheel it to. It has to store vertically. Take care, winter isn't over yet and I'm sure we'll feel it again. Cheers, David.
I have that same industry in N Scale and it does take up a lot of room. The corrugated plastic will be somewhat of a challenge, I will be interested in how you solve it. Ahh what would we do if we couldn't make track changes. Thanks for sharing. Dave
Hi Dave, my friend Rick has the pulp/paper mill kit in N scale too. I haven't seen it yet but it will be interesting to compare. I'm beginning to form an idea for painting but as spraying will be involved I'll have to wait for some warmer weather. In the meantime I have my track work to keep me busy. Actually the track work is easy, it's the wiring that provides most of the time consuming work. Cheers, David.
Hi John, yes, I think that pulp mill will add a great deal of fun to the operations. I've been fine tuning the track and testing it for many years and now as I complete sections of permanent track I am finding that it works extremely well. Cheers, David.
Hi Anthony, thank you. I too love the pulp mill kit. If I had the space I think I would get another one and combine them into one super building. Tamiya tape is good but I have to go across a corrugated surface. I'm sure I'll figure it out. Four more tracks to go to finish the yard. It'll be done before the weekend. Cheers, David.
Hello David, great improovment on your layout. 👍 Perhaps you can use thin film instead of green colour. 🤔 Or the radikal way: cut of the sections you want to be green, paint them and glue the parts back in place. 😳 Anyway good luck for your work, and enjoy.😊 Take care. Cheers Andy 🤠
Hi Andy, thank you for your suggestions. I have not done anymore on the mill building but as I work on the track I am thinking of different solutions, I will figure it out I'm sure. Cheers, David.
Hi David that looks like great build is it a scratch build ? As for the paint would a piece of corrugated plastic laid on in reverse work just a thought 😊

Some very complicated track work going on there by the look of things. Great to see everything that's happening. All the best to you

i love that industry area, great structures. sound track planning. very nice running! sweet vid David :)

Love the pulp mill industry you’re creating …I’ve used Tamiya masking tape successfully painting straight lines…nice yard track improvements

Good progress, That mill area will look good when it`s done, I`m now researching a coal fired power station track plan.
Hi Clive. Thank you, I'm looking forward to having the pulp mill finished and operational. Can you find anything on Google maps?
Yes I`ve several screen shots of ratcliff@@trainsontuesday

Hi Fred, no, the pulp mill is a kit from the Walthers Cornerstone series. Good idea with the corrugated plastic, I shall check that out. David.
@@trainsontuesday and maybe a thin bead of blu tack between the two , I mean very thin 😊
