  • Carnivorous plants care consists of giving your plants enough water. The easiest way to water carnivorous plants is by placing your plants into a tray of water. Constantly filling your water trays with water can be hard work and time consuming. What about when you go on holidays? How are your plants going to be watered? You need an automatic watering system that is reliable and automatic. Thats where this video may help. In this video I explain the ideas behind the Blue Glove Project which I started a couple of years ago. It was a concept where I wanted to regain my time in the garden by setting up a reliable automatic watering system for my carnivorous plants.
After testing out my watering system I'm happy to say that over all the project was a success! I was able to successfully grow North American pitcher plants, Venus Flytraps, and Sundews using the concepts and ideas explained in this video. I explain the finer details to help you plan and set up YOUR very own watering system. I discuss how to build your watering system, the materials needed, how to provide a waterproof connection to the PVC pipes that will store the water, how to use the wicking system to water your plants including how to insert the wicks into the base of your pot plants. I also discuss the important lessons I learnt along the way including my success and failures in the Blue Glove Project. Happy growing and watering to you all!

I really wanted to watch the whole video. Can you make a quicker version. This seems more like a deep deep dive of taking the long way to get through this video.

Hi there ...thanks for your comment. My aim was to highlight all the details to help anyone who was thinking about creating an automatic watering system for watering their plants. 'Inspiration through knowledge is one of my favourite mantras'. I haven't used bookmarks in this video (which I'm sure would have helped you navigate to the parts you're interested in). However I have started using bookmarks and your comment encourages me to continue using bookmarks. The short answer is no I don't intend to create a shorter version of this video......happy growing to you.

Great ideas. I'm going to instal a small scale version for my small collection, too. Can you supply a link or tell me where I can buy that type of float valve, please? I live near Brisbane, Queensland.

Hi there .......great to hear you're going to give it a go. It worked well for me and the float worked great. I'll definitely add a link as to the float valve specs and where I got it.....happy growing to you!

Hi there .....I had a look at my invoice for the float valve in the video. Unfortunately it only says 'float valve'. Anyway I just took a quick measurement of the valve that appeared in the video. The float (the part that actually floats) is: 8.5 cm long and 4cm wide. The water inlet is a quarter inch in diameter. I purchased the float from PSI Water Filters. Cheers

@@succulentflytraps Thanks for the info. PSI Water Filters are located in Launceston, Tasmania. However, I've discovered a smaller unit ($8.00 as opposed to $15.00 too) around the corner in a Hydroponics Shop.

    Seems unnecessarily complex

Hi there .....yes it is a bit complex. The nature of using wicks means you can't just place the pots into water trays. However once its all set up it works quite well and you can just leave it alone.
