    After a week of using my M1 iMac highest end model I couldn't be more pleased. I upgraded to 16GB RAM also. It just a great machine. Oh and one quick thing about the chin and white bezel...sitting in front of the computer with the light from the display in your eyes you do NOT notice either. That chin and bezel negativity is a non issue. I also think the white pays tribute to that older iMac that was white plastic before the aluminum bodied ones debuted in 2008. This new iMac M1 is just beautiful and FAST. It's the best AIO desktop available today at a great price. For just $200 more, go for the higher end. It's SO worth it.

  • @hyper-potato
    @hyper-potato 3 года назад +9

    I think that 10% of performance difference is mostly due to the cheaper model having 1 core less than the more expensive model and not because of the thermals.
    I guess the extra 200 dollars is only worth if you plan to use this iMac to do some heavy tasks for long periods of time which i guess only people who work in heavy video editing get to do.. for the target population this iMac is directed to it doesn't really matter at all.

  • @hopedaddy907
    @hopedaddy907 3 года назад +9

    Interesting. And definitely something Apple could have been more transparent about. Unless you need four ports, you can pretty cost-effectively make up most of the differences between the $1299 and $1499 models by checking a few options. I'm more of a words & videoconferencing guy than a video-editing guy, so the impact of the performance differences between the two cooling approaches will likely be minimal for me. But in the long run, it's hard to imagine that the quieter and cooler machine wouldn't have been the better choice.

    Thanks for the comparison Max! Seems like the one fan and no connected heat pipe to the base model’s M1 does make a little bit of performance difference, but the performance is still better than a base model Macbook Air. The fan in it is definitely not as loud as the terrible fan situation in the early 2020 Macbook Air with no heatsink either. I’m so glad this is *NOT* another Macbook Air with no heatsink-like situation lol.

    • @MaxTechOfficial
      @MaxTechOfficial  3 года назад +2

      True. Better than that but the fan still spins up to full blast every time we do anything tough. I wish they just put in the same fan and heat pipe setup like in the higher end..

    • @utubekullanicisi
      @utubekullanicisi 3 года назад +2

      @@MaxTechOfficial Since the M1 barely heats up in daily operations like watching a 4K video on RUclips or browsing the web though (whereas that old Macbook Air would always spike up to 100 degrees and never lower its temp from there), and with the fan spinning up even a soft air blow on the M1 will make it cool fast, I think the base model, with an OWC Thunderbolt docl, is still a good machine. Don't get me wrong I wish both the entry level and midrange model had the same cooling solution too, but if Apple decided to differentiate the entry level from the mid-high models like this, with the M1, so be it, no biggie lol.

    Legend on your graph for Lightroom export is backwards. It says Base model took 2.25 and High End took 4:20. Unless I misunderstood what you said verbally (and what logic would suggest) the High End was the one that took 2.25 with the Base taking 4:20. Or am I missing something here?

I don’t need Touch ID, Ethernet port or extra USB ports. I don’t do video editing or play games. Would I be fine with base model iMac? And would it work smooth for at least 5-6 years? Is this an error in the info?! At 12:04 you say that the high end one takes 2:25m and the base over 4m for rendering. In the overlay it’s the other way round.
    Now why I’m asking is, because other people tried it too and the base model with 8gb was often faster in rendering compared to a 16gb high end iMac m1. So which way round? Error in text or in the graphics?

      It all depends on what you're gunna do with it. Unless you're gunna be doing stuff that wails on the CPU for extended durations, you probably won't be throttling on the base model. If you plan on doing footage editing and heavy duty/long duration intensive stuff, then you probably shouldn't have been considering a base model in the first place. Average users definitely won't be hitting a base iMac hard enough long enough to throttle.
