I'm guessing those digitals are done on Studio? I can't even begin to imagine the lag on that computer. Whenever I try building something big on there it starts lagging at around 8,000 pieces. Anyone have a suggestion for a workaround for the lag / know how this guy might've dealt with it?

Let's be serious, this would be a multi-million dollar project that even the best master builders of the Lego Group would balk at. No way an independent fan would ever be able to pull it off, even with a group of collaborators.
I would suggest something like the Tantive IV, which would be about 5m (16ft) long. Still a huge challenge, but not unfeasible.

The "normal" UCS Star Destroyer has a tendency to fall apart by it's own weight.
There is no way this behemoth could be build completely out of Lego. You would need a steel frame with just a skin-layer of Lego on it.

If you're going with a minifig scale of 1:42, you might consider trying something like an Arquitens. I feel like that might be doable (25 feet long instead of 180 ft/55 meters). Other options would be a Nebulon-B. A Gozanti would be around 4.9 feet/1.5 meters (and you could get the some minifig scale TIE Fighters in on that action). I think someone's working on that. A GR-75 would also be cool, though probably kind of finicky due to the design.

    • @Number1Irishlad

  • @JangoF12b

I honestly hope he goes far with the project. The whole project of making the real life lego X-wing into human scale was something cool, but a Star Destroyer at minifig scale with the bays fully modeled with a fully modeled bridge; that sounds like a museum piece.
More than likely it'll only have most of the bridge, the 2 bays, and be mostly hollow with an exoskeleton and endoskeleton to hold up most of the weight the pieces used for outside detail. The largest weight would definitely be due to the bridge and the shield generators.
