@Ironhyde1 It didn't, no. But Samurai were more of a hybrid type of soldiers, whereas mongols had dedicated archers and footsoldiers. Samurai were supposed to be able to first of all fight efficiently from horseback and use bow, which is mission imposible if you're heavily armored and they were also supposed to be able to effectively fight on foot. You gotta sacrifice protection for that kind of diversity since you can't really have it all in one package. Mongols weren't very well armored either in comparison to Europe at the time.
@Ironhyde1 Well i already mentioned Mongols having dedicated archers and melee combatants though. That's the thing, Mongolian archers didn't wield shields or heavy armor, because that would've affected their ability to wield the bow. Samurai did both roles at once, archery and melee. They didn't have separate troops for each role. Also, i never argued that Samurai armor wasn't inferior, obviously the Mongols were better in warfare and gear. I just made a point, that there's a reason it was designed the way it was.
But sadly for you, gamer. This is not how samurai wear in that Mongol invasion era. This is the latest armor of samurai. Around 17th century maybe. They use more metal. And that Tsushima invasion is 13th century thing.. Of course the armor n weapon are more weak than this 17th century samurai armor n weapon. Edit: and at that Tsushima Invasion, their sword is not katana though. It was just normal thin sword. Katana not yet invented. But naginata(spear-like weapon but have more blade) and other weapons already invented at that time.

authentic in the sense that it is a reproduction, made in the traditional way - absolutely, you can. There are lots of stories of outsiders heading to Japan and being able to try on and even buy these kinds of reproduction armors. Wearing an actual, 17th century set of armor? That's a little more tricky. First, obviously, a museum probably won't let you wear theirs. There are sets that go up for auction, family heirlooms, etc. If you make a friend who owns a set while you're there, they might let you try it. But that opens up the second problem; you're probably too tall and too "wide" if you're not Japanese. Even modern Japanese people are a LOT taller than the Samurai. Judging from their armor, bones, etc - historians estimate that samurai were averaging out at just over 5' in height. Their armors are strikingly small, almost like a child's armor today. It causes issues when trying to recreate historical armors for modern body sizes.
@ they were foreign samurai, yes. But I don't understand the context here. For what it's worth, the "little iceage" of that century reduced European heights to an average of 5'5" making Adams comparable in size to the Japanese themselves. Yasuke is recorded as being much taller - about 6'2 Also, Adams and Yasuke arrived near the very end of the Sengoku-Jidai. While we know that Yasuke was present at battles, we don't know if Adams was. When Hidetada became Shogun, he also gifted a set of samurai armor to King James I, although I'm not sure if it was made to the king's measurements - I doubt it.
