Further reading: "The Samson Option", Seymour Hersh. Superb book. The situation is - if Israel were to acknowledge possession of nuclear weapons, under the terms of the NPT, the United States would be bound by its own laws to cut off foreign and military aid to Israel. Neither country wants that, so they are both content to maintain the status quo of "nuclear opacity". "We can still remember the smell of Auschwitz and Treblinka. Next time we’ll take all of you with us."
so the sampson option is basically just one last "fuck you" to any conquering army? Thats certainly a terrifying thought to think about, a defeated Isreal detonating a nuke in a place like Jeruselum to deny it to the enemy, which granted, is pretty unlikely considering what that place means to Jews around the world, but that's the city I think of when I think Isreal. That actually reminds me of the scene in CoD4 when the US marine force takes a nuke right to the face when they capture the middle eastern city, I think that shit traumatized me as a kid lol. Nuclear ambiguity is about trying to avoid an arms race that might provoke allies to reign in Israel. After all, it sounds like Israel came close on several occasions to being the flashpoint for WWIII. And all the while, allies have deniability as their defense, so nobody can be accused of lying, merely lack of transparency.
Actually, it's quite the opposite for nukes, you totally want people to know for it to work as a deterrent. Nuclear weapons are actually bloody useless in an actual war. For much of the same reason chemical weapons weren't used in WWII. They don't change the realities of you military arsenal, it doesn't improve your economic or logistical capabilities, actually using them hurts you almost as much as your opponent. If not more, depending on the riposte if your adversary is also a nuclear power. Moreover, it's the sort of irrelevant score-keeping that does nothing to address the issue.
I listened to a talk from a LLNL nuclear proliferation expert once he said that Israel has more advanced stuff than they thought and that was worrisome because the US thought that kind of advanced stuff can only be developed with testing. This is worrisome to the US because either a) Israel can conduct tests without the US knowing them or b) Israel can develop something without testing that the US could only develop with testing (in the past). Also, the 1981 Osirak reactor bombing had a funny exchange of words, the US was telling Israel not to worry about that Iraqi reactor, and Israel replied, we have the same type of reactor we know exactly what can be done with it so let us worry about it - a lot. The US intelligence also missed just how advanced the South African nuclear program was (far more advanced than they thought it became clear after the apartheid ended). Other than these two, the US intelligence was quite spot on regarding other nuclear programs in the world. We also asked him if there are briefcase nukes and if any are missing and he told us ha cannot answer the first question, but none are missing :))))
Israel gave an important contribution to french nuclear programme in the 50-ies and, as reward, had got full access to data. So Israel actually DID her own tests. Intelligence from Soviet documents - lots of soviet nuclear and mathematical experts were actually Hebrews- and open source pubblications could have given Israel the knowledge in order to realize "missile-sized" warheads. Supercomputers from 1985 could have given the capabilty to perform "minitests" with small warheads and to extrapolate by computiing to larger yelds
Kinda like one of my Navy bases in Northern California in the early 90's. We were nuclear potential, not nuclear capable. Just need to know what the difference means. Tbh the allies should just have let Israel nuke baghdad and other large cities in Iraq. Would have saved them the expense & manpower of taking out Iraq via conventional means.

I think the point obviously is that they know that if it was official that they had nukes and also had developed them in an obviously illegal way then it would turn opinions decisively against them in a lot of the west where their approval is always resting on a knife's edge. They can't risk that because they get most of their funding and weapons from the west, there's also the risk of international sanctions as well but that's less of a threat since the US always protects them. While at the same time they want to make it clear to their neighbors that they do have nuclear weapons so no one dares to attack them, and of course they absolutely want to avoid anyone developing parity with them because that'd make them lose their upper hand and force them to reveal that they have nukes. One thing is certain though, a nuclear war would almost certainly start with Isreal.
To quote Dr. Strangelove "The whole point of a superweapon is lost if you keep it a secret, why didn't you tell the world?" Load some others with conventional warheads to take out airfields and air defense, and Israel could launch a conventional air attack. The other is Hezbollah, which has a lot more rockets and more sophisticated rockets than Hamas does. Israel would be hit with thousands of rockets per day in response and would have to respond to take out Hezbollah. At the same time, Hamas which is also funded by Iran would also get involved. I arrived in South Africa at the age of 3 and left 10 years later. My dad was the business manger at Helderberg College. A PhD named Brozio was recruited from Germany to teach but later went to work for the SA nuclear program. The irony is that Dr. Brozio used to come over to our house and we would play "Risk" - a board game of geopolitical maneuver and conquest...

Whether or not it's a bluff...the point is:
"Don't attack us. Don't allow us to be attacked. We're batshit crazy."
The fact that they've conducted unilateral military attacks on several of their neighbours throughout their history tends to add weight to that threat in the eyes of the world.

Not knowing something is far more frightening then knowing something. It doesn't allow you to prepare.
For Israel, nuclear capability helps prevent the surrounding countries from trying to invade and erase it as an independent country. Nothing more. Nothing less.
@@TheStephaneAdam that's quite clever strategy - arabs keep in the back of the head that Israel 99% has nukes yet it doesn't have to keep the weight and responsibilities of being a nuclear power
@@MrMediator24 In other words Israel is violating international law. They did engage in nuclear proliferation vis-a-vis their close ally Apartheid South Africa. This is a flagrant violation of international law.

Moreover, it's the sort of irrelevant score-keeping that does nothing to address the issue.
Cant believe your channel has been active for so long since 2016! Keep up the amazing work!
PS I wrote this before watching the video wow all of it is covered. Cool.
I think it was Cheney or something that said the UN coalition could not have liberated Kuwait without that raid
Very interesting facts.

Kinda like one of my Navy bases in Northern California in the early 90's. We were nuclear potential, not nuclear capable. Just need to know what the difference means.

You don't want your enemy to know the exact extent of your capabilities.
It's a secret so that they aren't in violation of nuclear non-proliferation treaties. It's an open secret so that the deterrence isn't lost, and in fact is amplified by the uncertainty around the scale of their nuclear capabilities.

But I think that story would have gone longer. So I request you to also make a separate video about it. How Israel and India planned to attack Pakistan's nuclear facility but eventually had to call it off twice.
If Israel wanted to attack the Pakistani nuclear reactor then it would destroy it.
Although there were plans I think those were mostly for the drawer among many other plans most countries make about far fetched scenarios, Israel is too small to broaden its focus beyond immediate threats and although they have warm relations with India they are not allies and Israel would not be interested in joint operations nor rely on them for such a task. As far as I know there are no reliable sources of Israel ever being serious about such attacks nor does it make strategic sense for them to antagonize Pakistan much less attack them directly, their geopolitical game focuses solely on their own existential issues
Correction-during the gulf war/Irack's skuds the p.m in Israel was Itsaak Shamir the defence minister was Moshe Arens...not Ariel Sharon(who served as minister, not sure if it was agriculture or infrastructures)
Minister of Housing and Construction
Excellent analysis! You and your team deserve a good “stoli” !
Who said it was meant to be a well kept secret? It was designed to be misty, not secret. In a misty environment one sees what one believes is there. This is a political issue, rather than a military one.
Actually great video, not political, only tries to convey information.
Thanks!

I think it would be interesting to see a video of if Israel launched an air war against Iran, as a preemptive strike to prevent Iran’s nuclear capability
Genuinely hoping Iran gets the bomb.
@@thomasaquinas1163 Genuinely hoping Iran gets A-bombed before they get their own bomb.
@@thomasaquinas1163 would be suicide for them as they can probably at most produce dumb bombs if they started an actual weapons program and if they do they'll be facing down the Saudi and Israeli air forces
They wouldn't use nukes. On the other hand, loading a 1000kg tungsten or depleted uranium solid reentry vehicles on some Jericho 3 missiles might be a way to take out reinforced bunkers. Load some others with conventional warheads to take out airfields and air defense, and Israel could launch a conventional air attack. But I'll be unlikely to be able to launch more than one, for two very large reasons. The first is that the surrounding Arab countries could feign ignorance about one attack but not more than one.
The other is Hezbollah, which has a lot more rockets and more sophisticated rockets than Hamas does. Israel would be hit with thousands of rockets per day in response and would have to respond to take out Hezbollah. At the same time, Hamas which is also funded by Iran would also get involved. The IDF would be quite busy.
Perhaps a follow-up strike using a freighter loaded with dozens of cruise missiles would work, especially on targets in Eastern Iran.
@@ronmaximilian6953 The Jericho III missiles are not for Iran.
I'm pretty sure that as you said in the end of the video, THAT IS EXACTLY THE POINT. lol
Excellent video!!!!

Probably unlikely
There was operation conducted by the Chinese nationalists during 1960s to retake China known as Project National Glory. It was largely abandoned when it was clear that PRC was here to stay after ROC was expelled by UN.

Everyone knows about the nuclear reactor at Dimona and it's been targeted this year. In April, Syria launched a rocket at Dimona , which Israel reportedly failed to intercept. Of course, since it exploded harmlessly, it's possible that is really interceptors were never fired at it since the tracking reader determined that it wasn't going to hit anything. 3 weeks later, Hamas fired multiple rockets at Dimona. Israel has a multi-layered defense around the city and nuclear reactor.
PS . Israel's prime minister during the first golfer was Yitzhak Shamir.
That's false, the missile was a S200 SAM which missed and went dumb, the missile was intercepted at approximately 40k feet and shrapnel hit near the city of Dimona.

Can you do a video on Jeff's nuclear stockpile?
14:25 - Ariel Sharon wasn't the Prime Minister these days. Yitzhak Shamir was. And the one who was responsible for threatening Iraq, was Shimon Peres, also one of the founders of the Israeli Nuclear Plan.
Another small correction, operation out of the box was carried out by F15Is and F16Is and not as mentioned in the clip.
With neighbors like theirs, Israel will surely need nuclear weapons - it's not for trivial threats, it's for survival
Officially, no.
Unofficially? Yes.

Bangladesh will win easily 😂🇧🇩
@INDIAN NIGGA yeah!
In terms of numeracy, capabilities and experience Myanmar would win. Dozens of civil wars and military technology from Israel and Russia with a pure military doctrine and geographical advantage.
Our current capabilities is not enough against Myanmar.
The answer is simple, "We will neither confirm nor deny" with a mix of "well obviously".
You don't need many nuclear weapons or even particularly advanced delivery methods, in order to present a credible deterrent. Just ask North Korea.
Woah, binkov! Tread lightly on this one!

Does anyone recall the events onboard USS Liberty, June of '67 ?
Israel received a green light from America to defeat the Arabs and Russians in the Six Day War. It was a conspiracy for the US to enter the Middle East. The US Navy arrived at the end of the war off the coast of Syria. The Russian Navy arrived off the coast of Israel. An American ship accidentally arrived off the coast of Israel near the Russians. The ship was hit by friendly fire.

According to French media, French help to build the Israeli nuclear bomb was the price France paid for Israeli participation in the Suez-war of 1956 according to French media. Without it, Israel did not feel safe enough to participate in the Suez war. This is an open secret which you hear on French media, supported by recorded testimony of key figures of the time. The later Israeli president of state Shimon Perez led these negotiations in 1956. Israel officially never answered the question if they have nuclear weapons or not. Israel never intimidated anyone with its nukes, but they keep them as a last reserve. When in 1974 in the Jom Kippur war Israel seemed about to loose the war, they activated their nuclear missiles, but never fired them.
