@@DannyMotta OH LMAO I was starting to think it looked annoying but I'm glad you appreciate those JAJDHSHDH, your reactions are the funniest I've seen in a while
Here's a fun fact: In real life, Ango Sakaguchi, Sakunosuke Oda, and Osamu Dazai were members of the literary movement known as the Buraiha, which were a group of dissolute writers who expressed the aimlessness and identity crisis of post-World War II Japan. The 3 were known to be good friends who spent their time at bars (such as Lupin), using drugs, and having frequent relationships. (Taken from wiki)
Good context! I think it's also notable that Buraiha was not a term the three coined themselves, but was a disparaging name that conservative Japanese critics called them because they thought they wrote works with dissolute/vulgar (literally "decadent") themes and characters. They're also notable as a trio because they all wrote works (although not exclusively) that addressed societal and political shifts in Japan's immediate postwar period, a subject that tended to focus heavily on disgrace, defeat, individuality, loss of traditional values, and aimlessness. Notably, many of Oda's writings detailed the depravation and struggle for food and basic necessities (as well as an extremely high population of orphans) at the start of the American occupation, and how it led many to lives of crime and thriving black markets in many Japanese cities. I think these specific themes heavily informed Oda's character in BSD, which I love. Asagiri does such a good job of using real authors and literature to write this story. He's not trying to recreate these authors as they were in life, but instead weaves features of the authors and their work into wholly unique characters. Anyone who's familiar with the authors and their work will find little Easter eggs in these characters, and it's so gratifying when you find them. For example, knowing that author Kenji Miyazawa was a strict and outspoken vegetarian makes Kenji's love of meat in BSD so much funnier and more ironic when it's revealed. Since very few people in the western English-speaking world are familiar with these Japanese authors and their work, this clever balance often becomes easier to see when Guild and other western author characters are introduced. It's so so interesting.
Thank you, that was so interesting ☺️ they kind of sound like American Beatnik's a little bit. If they were in BSD, they probably would be turned into a 'hype house' kind of bunch lol
@@katiestott1449Similar to the Kenji fact, I learned that Vita Sexualis was written by the Irl author Mori Ougai. Btw Oda's ability is called "Flawless" because the irl Oda Sakunosuke wrote a book named "Flawless", not because his ability is actually, you know, flawless 😅
8:55 In WW2 Germans used to tickle soldiers for hours as a form of torture and interrogation, since it looked like the subjects of the torture were having fun it was easy on the conscience of the soldiers and left no marks. So your joke technically isn't incorrect.
Oof Dazai taunting that mimic guy to shoot him in the alley hit different in the novel. Dazai had a peaceful smile on his face but Oda described his expression as "a child about to burst into tears" He didn't even tell Dazai to shut up in the novel after his whole explanation about the person missing his shut. he just said "Yeah" because though he really wanted to punch Dazai for what he did, he couldn't because of heirarchy. Ah the book is so good
He couldn't punch him, yes, but it wasn't because of hierarchy. It was because he felt the three of them had a friendship built on distance instead of closeness. They were all lonely, they all understood boundaries, and that's why it worked so well. Even so he regretted it at the end...except...well, it was the end. (Also--before the side A/B story of their meeting, I would've said you know how Dazai freaks out at any substantial positive emotion directed at himself. He acts like he's being cornered. But after reading A/B you realize Dazai was actually the relatively forward one in this relationship, even though that forwardness was done in an extremely circular way, while Odasaku only moved when he felt he "had permission to". Otherwise he always passively lets things get away, even though he maybe wanted it to continue. So maybe at the end, although it was too late, he finally realized he had permission to. )

But then again, Oda held a more special place on Dazai’s heart. What happened drove Dazai to quit the mafia and go to the armed detective agency.
Fun fact, the title actually translates to English as "Literary Stray Dogs", which is fitting seeing as so many characters are named after writers and have abilities named after/based on their written works.
The third season is probably my favorite, however this season is really good! It is a really big flashback (The Dark Era arc named that for good reason). Also, Dazai here is like 15 and Oda is late twenties. This season broke the fandom lol so I hope you still continue to watch and enjoy it as we have even though it’s a flashback it’s really good! only episodes 1-3 are flashbacks, the rest are taking place in the normal timeline. but these flashbacks are v important as they help u understand dazai better as a character so you shouldnt get discouraged!
I mean... The real author Dazai had a lot of romantic partners too. They kept taking pity only to be proven wrong when he disappeared or drank so much he started a whole new life again.
Don't worry it's not all flashback, every season the first few episodes are dedicated to one of the light novels that are usually backstories of characters. Dark Era is the second light novel, the first was Dazai's entrance exam or also known as the Azure Messenger arc that Bones changed into present day for whatever reason. Ranpo/Fukuzawa and Chuuya also have their own novels and there's one of Chuuya and Dazai at 15 which is in the beginning of season 3. Dark Era takes place when Dazai's 18 and Oda is 23 here so like...if you want a ship for Oda, Ango is RIGHT THERE. The anime really peaks here because you get insight on the characters more and have a steadier plot.
No, not everything will be a flashback, just four episodes, then we return to the present. It's just that this flashback gives background to some things that will happen in the season.
@@landmerry_6742 I checked and he was 23 during dark era. since I heard someone say he was 28 I got confused, my apologies But he was already an adult when he and Dazai met (Dazai was 16) and in ‘The Day I Picked Up Dazai’ light novel (the one dark era is based on) he often refers to Dazai as a kid or child and he sees him as such so having them be in a relationship would be problematic

1-4 are flashbacks. Episode 4 marks the time that Dazai goes underground for a while before joining the ADA.
the tickling jokes really tickled some laughter outta me
Dazai: If you’re bored,
Punch an orphan,
What are they gonna do?
Tell their parents?
I mean... The real author Dazai had a lot of romantic partners too. They kept taking pity only to be proven wrong when he disappeared or drank so much he started a whole new life again.
Im early! Im going to cry when he reacts to the you-know-what-scene
Only the first 4 episodes are flashbacks after that it goes back to the present, my current favourite season is s2 because of the episode Double Black
It's just that this flashback gives background to some things that will happen in the season.
im not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but the bar ango oda and dazai drink at is a real bar called bar lupin in ginza tokyo
“We gotta cool it with the sexy red heads”
THAT IS TOO REAL 😭😭 he is literally my fav anime character HELP
6:09 THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE AN 8 YEAR AGE GAP AND MET WHEN DAZAI WAS 16 THO
Dude, facts correct pls. It was 5yrs. Which should be perfectly ok even to sensitive people.
@@landmerry_6742 I checked and he was 23 during dark era. since I heard someone say he was 28 I got confused, my apologies
But he was already an adult when he and Dazai met (Dazai was 16)
and in ‘The Day I Picked Up Dazai’ light novel (the one dark era is based on) he often refers to Dazai as a kid or child and he sees him as such so having them be in a relationship would be problematic
IM SO SORRY BUT ANGO SOUNDS SO FUCKING GOOFY IN THE DUB. he sounds like he’s about to go “um. actually 🤓”
The amount of joy I felt when I saw this thumbnail is unmatched
This season has 2 arcs with the Dark Era arc being the 1st and Guild Arc coming after. The 1st arc doesn't last long so don't worry, it's set up
The 4th season is my favorite! Well okay it's not out yet but from the manga, it'll be wild
I know right?
I actually literally clicked on this seeing oda and said welp time to cry!
live, laugh, love oda
Oda is and always will be in my top three favorite characters, very sad that he died :(
theres an episode in season 2 that WILL MENTALYY FUCK YOU UP!!!!!!!
it’s the part where he says that he wants to see oda in an impossible situation almost made me burst into tears
The first 4 episodes are flash back, after that it goes back to main plot.
When I visit Japan one of the places in my bucket list is bar Lupin, it’s a real place that exist although now it’s more of a museum than a bar
Your videos just make my day! I just got out of school and your videos made me feel so much better :)
Can’t wait for the Poe episode
Same!!!!
Same!
YESSS
Lmfao Doc McStuffins is the show my niece is obsessed with right now. I was not expecting to hear it's name here X"D
Mario kart. Green shells. Bombs. Boomerang. HOW DID YOU FORGET ABOUT THESE AND THE FACT YOU CAN DODGE THEM IF YOU’RE LUCKY!
Me: I think I have a crush on Danny..
*few frames of Danny with his shirt off*
Like bro knew lol
When I tell you I ran to go watch this new video! Thanks for making my night way better!
I'm so excited bcs if you didn't know BSD season 4 comes out on January 4th, so if you can do reaction videos about it, it would be really nice
When Dazai was talking about the guy holding the gun with his non dominant hand, he was holding it with left hand which is dominant one
we love the new intro that appears for like 3 episodes :)
i can only agree to "this guy is my new favorit redhead" xD
