My father was a journalist and he taught me from the time I could hold a mike, that the mark of a good interviewer is how little they have to say to coax the most out of the interviewee. I think of that in my job as a therapist. So many interviewers forget that it’s not about them (lol, therapists, too).
In order to achieve their famously unwavering politeness, Canada had to distill all of their snark and sarcasm into one man, and that man was Ryan Reynolds.
Thoughtful interview, respectful interviewer. Ryan is insightful, intelligent, funny (wickedly humorous!) but definitely not just an actor caught up in ‘ego’. A father, a husband, relatable and genuinely all-round nice person.
Ok, I love seeing someone who is so naturally funny as Ryan Reynolds able to have an adult, intelligent conversation without turning every other answer into a punchline. That is so rare and so impressive.
Sounds like Ryan is a HSP (Highly Sensitive Person). I also grew up this way and was categorized as "overly shy" and quiet when really I was observing and reading people. I love him even more hearing this about his childhood. 🥰
He has a few passions... he invested in them. That makes him one of the smartest actors out there. Acting income will come and go... business ventures he can retire on and will pass on to his kids.
This was an interesting interview, I never tire of listening to Ryan's voice and I'm happy I could understand him as a person more. Ryan is so relatable and so well-spoken, great interview!
The interviewer could take out 27 mins of a serious Ryan Reynolds, kudos to him🎉 Also I just love this man, he is so clear, humble, confident and self aware. I wonder how much he reflects and works hard to get through things because he has so much wisdom in him🙌🏽
he was wearing a hat, it's the WSJ about business; he's beyond cool, but he's a man with a mission, and for this interview he struck the right wavelength, imo.
@@RoachMcToast , nah, I do think that sarcasm-riffing is his neutral... never miss an opportunity to make your loved ones laugh. making them happy makes you happy and that's a pretty awesome reason for living.
I watched his Letterman-interview on Netflix yesterday. Got the same vibe from that one. I think he has had a very tough childhood, harder than he is willing to express in this interview.
I particularly love watching he, and his close friend, Hugh Jackman, in interviews. So fun to watch 2 people having fun insulting each other, and laughing themselves silly. 💖🇨🇦
I love Ryan and I loved this genuine interview. We all know he's a funny guy, but this sincere interview is a nice change from quick quip interviews he normally does. And it's good to see a fellow Vancouverite do well!!!
Great interview. Hawkins doesn't talk over him or interrupt incessantly like many other interviewers do. He let Reynolds talk and was very cool and even keel the entire time. Great questions as well. Reynolds himself is very articulate in his answers. He really knows how to express himself clearly and doesn't ramble on unnecessarily. Great interview, guys.
I really like these sorts of interviews, where actors I really like do serious interviews. There are so few with Ryan. It's nice to see he's had a lot of the same experiences a lot of us have. He seems more approachable, I guess is how I see him now? I mean it feels like as successful as he is, he's still humble. I like that.
Thanks for finally doing a video like this. Very true and very personal. The comedy mask is down and you allowed real connection. Thank Ryan, you’re the real deal!’
Aviation Gin is delicious, sadly we drank all of ours. I bought it because I saw him talk about it on Jimmy Fallon. If only Ryan Reynolds could deliver it to New Zealand. :)
Ryan Reynolds is a National treasure. The charities that he and his wife support are phenomenal phenomenal and without Ryan they would go unnoticed. I am a Canadian my name is Rick. Canadians love you and so do I.
Thank you for highly informative, intelligent, skilled interview. Great interview. Look forward to seeing more. Huge fan of Mr Reynolds. Genuine, intelligent, talented, interesting man.
And THAT is RR’s super power! He does things that are fun for him and he doesn’t take himself too seriously! We could all learn from that! I have learned to do that!! Thank you Ryan Reynolds for modelling that for us while admitting to anxiety and insecurity. You truly are my superhero! ❤️🥳😀🌷🇨🇦
Ryan is an amazing person, you realise that underneath this cheeky humour he's just a sensitive soul and doesn't have this "I'm SO wonderful love me" persona he's more than happy to make a fool of himself and loves to help people. after watching this video I love him even more.😍🙌👏👏😂😂💞✌
Ok, well I never thought I would have something in common with Mr. Reynolds, but I heard it in this interview. Always being the new kid in school, I worked very hard to maintain my invisibility in high school. It worked pretty well too. Thanks for being so honest Mr. Reynolds. Not many people being interviewed will be as honest as you appear to be. Be well everyone!
@@missbumblebee8633 But he turned it to his advantage! He would be a good spokesperson for that, instead of swimming in his past hurt, turn it around into steps to climb out of that pit of hurt and pain, But i have heard many stories like this, but most are people who went thru a lot worse.
great all round person... i know he's more than the character but i still can't get past it... he IS deadpool, even when he's just himself he's exactly how i pictured the character as a kid reading the comics
What I like about Ryan Reynolds is he is soso down to earth, and yet funny as all heck. Some of the jokes in Deadpool and Wolverine, hysterical. The one about smelling his pants, and them..ohhhhh Im telling Blake....(His real life wife). He is just a genuinely funny guy. And approachable.
Wow I never thought I'd have so much similarities with Ryan Reynolds childhood and mine...i wasn't the 4th but 3rd...i really felt how he would have been so close to mine
I know Ryan will never see this, but as a store manager, I push aviation gin to as many people as possible and to those who even questions buying gin. I hope by now your selling over 300k cases a year
Great interview ... very organic like he said and sincere. I loved his acting and him since van wilder and the proposal - all especially deadpool - and little one does too even though some mouthy language for elementary kids ... i think he is the first movie my 6-7 yr old saw with language that i was avoiding for her to learn. Great interview Lee. Thanks for this ..
Before I watched I saw comments about him nailing a handshake, I watched the whole clip jus for the handshake and was not disappointed, what a great guy
That was Great, now i got to know Ryan more as a person than an actor which is also great, behind the Fame and the Glamour there's a Person who's Down to Earth, Modest, Honest, and Authentic, and he is without a doubt a guy you would love to be friends with because of that Charismatic Character he got and i'm so glad that i got to know how he climbed to the Spotlight where we got to see him Shine, where he was Meant to be.
I can relate to what Ryan is saying i am the kid sister of an older brother and an older sister and i was totally being the kid sister and i also relate with Ryan with my anxiety and shynees
really enjoyed this - thank you - nice to have an interview where the guest gets to simply speak (and so glad Ryan decided not to join the police - what a waste of talent - just think no Deadpool (nobody else could be in the role to the perfection that Ryan is) - been a fan since Two Guys and a Girl - knew he was a star then
You need to remake Paint your Wagon - Hugh Jackman and you would be great pairing Would also love to see you in a remake of Soylent Green (know you don't like movies with Green in it) but movie is so relevant now - think you could do it right
Can we all appreciate how Lee Hawkins let his guest talk and not interupt him every minute. Thank you Sir
Great comment. Its the thing where if you don't notice, he's doing a great job
I was just thinking the same thing. great interview.
I’m so proud he’s from here.Hes amazing.What a kind person🇨🇦

So true
In order to achieve their famously unwavering politeness, Canada had to distill all of their snark and sarcasm into one man, and that man was Ryan Reynolds.
😅
canadians have taken our british title of being nice, GODAMN YOU CANADIANS AND YOUR KIND NATURE!
@@ma2443 sorry about that, eh
Hey now!
He was the best choice, for sure!
Thoughtful interview, respectful interviewer. Ryan is insightful, intelligent, funny (wickedly humorous!) but definitely not just an actor caught up in ‘ego’. A father, a husband, relatable and genuinely all-round nice person.
So Canadian... 😉
Well said. Just an all around great human being.
Dats a Canuck for you!
"The more invisible I was the more, kind of, happy I was."
*Literally me*
Ok, I love seeing someone who is so naturally funny as Ryan Reynolds able to have an adult, intelligent conversation without turning every other answer into a punchline. That is so rare and so impressive.
Sounds like Ryan is a HSP (Highly Sensitive Person). I also grew up this way and was categorized as "overly shy" and quiet when really I was observing and reading people. I love him even more hearing this about his childhood. 🥰
He is so telling the truth, childhood terrors have made him a man of character with needle sharp humor. What a survivor!
Wow. He's very careful about his wording, but it really sounds like his childhood was difficult.
Right? I really got that vibe from this interview. ....
So Canadian...
Hyperperceptive? Hypervigilant, we call it. Poor kid.
Someone who tries to brings laughs are often the ones who are depressed
Everyone's childhood was difficult. Or still is
Ryan is so down to earth. Bless you and your family.
Agree. I never watch anything for this long but this was oddly engrossing.

Also I just love this man, he is so clear, humble, confident and self aware. I wonder how much he reflects and works hard to get through things because he has so much wisdom in him🙌🏽
Ryan is trying too hard not take his sarcasm to its full potential.
he was wearing a hat, it's the WSJ about business; he's beyond cool, but he's a man with a mission, and for this interview he struck the right wavelength, imo.
I think Ryan Reynolds was being Ryan Reynolds for this interview, and not his alter ego Ryan Reynolds. We’re just not used to seeing that.
@@RoachMcToast , nah, I do think that sarcasm-riffing is his neutral... never miss an opportunity to make your loved ones laugh. making them happy makes you happy and that's a pretty awesome reason for living.
That I agree
He's really good at it (coming from a Brit)..
He’s a perfect blend of sarcastic humor and humbleness...💪🏼
I watched his Letterman-interview on Netflix yesterday. Got the same vibe from that one. I think he has had a very tough childhood, harder than he is willing to express in this interview.

This is Deadpool playing Ryan Reynolds again
The longest Iv seen Ryan speak seriously and talk about his childhood🤍
I wish I had a friend like Ryan. He is funny. Love his humor

I love him. I could listen to him talk all day
The interviewer is top class
Compared to that interrupter galloway smth from The Round Table, the guy nailed it, and Ryan Reynolds said what he wanted to say freely.
Thanks for finally doing a video like this. Very true and very personal. The comedy mask is down and you allowed real connection. Thank Ryan, you’re the real deal!’
He even nailed the cool handshake at the end!!!
Best Ryan Reynolds Interview Ever!!! 😀👍
Always love to hear Ryan speak, and joke around...just ordered a bottle of that Gin, so well done promoting it. :)
It's not just gin. It's Aviation gin.
This interviewer was great (and so was Ryan).
Aviation Gin is delicious, sadly we drank all of ours. I bought it because I saw him talk about it on Jimmy Fallon. If only Ryan Reynolds could deliver it to New Zealand. :)
If only he could deliver himself to NZ. Gorgeous man
This - the interview that made me sob. Of all interviews, I never thought this one would be the one to make me well up with tears...
Ryan Reynolds is a National treasure. The charities that he and his wife support are phenomenal phenomenal and without Ryan they would go unnoticed. I am a Canadian my name is Rick. Canadians love you and so do I.
Well, that's a whole different side of Reynold that we know.
Huge Respect♥️♥️
I can listen to him for hours and never get bored 😍
I am wicked late to the party on this, but what a GREAT interview - so humble and thought-provoking. Thank you for sharing.

What a wholesome handshake at the end!
Ryan is so amazing and humble with an incredible personality and so much talent and savvy
he is truly one of Canada's favorite sons
if he isn't into showbiz, he'll make a one helluva marketing guru
Class act all the way
Thorr!!!! Wassup buddy.. ! How's space?😂
Many people who suffer from anxiety end up as the class clown as a protection.
Absolutely. Despite Ryan's cheery disposition, you get the feeling that he is a wounded person.

Refreshing to see a good interviewer for once.
Ryan's the man .
This was one of the best interviews from the US that I have ever seen. Specially with an actor.
I find this young man such a pleasure, even a treasure…his demeanor is so pleasant and seems to be pretty grounded..I adore his films…
I see Ryan Reynolds, Keanu Reeves OT Hugh Jackman I click.
I liked how candid and honest Ryan Reynolds was.

Interesting conversation, enjoyed.
@Ryan ... Love all that I've seen of your work and business efforts.
The three best things that came out of Canada . Keanu Reeves,Ryan Reynolds and Jim Carrey

Deadpool Producer, Writer, Actor!
It's like the exact opposite of the room
Now that’s Deadpool
There were several parts where I felt Ryan's gonna cry.
I can relate to what Ryan is saying i am the kid sister of an older brother and an older sister and i was totally being the kid sister and i also relate with Ryan with my anxiety and shynees
Same here.

Ryan believes in Aviation Gin with every cell in his body lol
Favorite comedy-actor ^^
Step out , lift your wings and do the

This was definitely not expected.
Well done gentlemen , well done .
I have so much in common with him! Both of us are the youngest sibling, both of us have social anxiety, and both of us are devilishly handsome.
I love Ryan Reynolds he is so funny
Proud to say I know one of the VFX artists on Deadpool. Woohoo!
I love this man, incredibly relatable
Nice interview, ADDICTIVE Aviation Gin, A bit pricey in the UK, but yes I got hooked up after the first glass.
A great Canadian guy.

Van Wilder!!!!! I love Ryan Reynolds endlessly, for me his is right up there with Robin Williams funny!
Ryan Reynolds is a brillant marketer..... that I love the most ! yeah he is a good actor too, the humour is genuine.
You need to remake Paint your Wagon - Hugh Jackman and you would be great pairing
Would also love to see you in a remake of Soylent Green (know you don't like movies with Green in it) but movie
is so relevant now - think you could do it right
this was nice

Cool interview... Important questions.
Great interview.
Great businessman, great human being
The title has wrong placement of (''). It should have been Deadpool "Actor" Ryan Reynolds.
