There is an article on WhatsApp, distributed by a Yoruba woman that is a Professor in the US. She wrote an extensive explanation of the how the Yoruba word was given to our ancestors.
The years 1800s are too early to conclude on the history of the Yoruba, because the Yoruba ancestors had been in existence before the 1800's. Also the Europeans and the Fulani were invaders who had an ulterior motives. History had revealed that most of the history records authored by the two vultures, about the indigenous people, were self-serving to them, and demeaning to the indigenous people.
Thank you for all the hard work you are doing you are highly appreciatediated.

    Good analysis, well done.
I have always believed there is a lot we can learn about Yorubas from Mali and their numerous documents
A pointer: Please have you considered the Bariba and the meaning, I suspect it may help give a hint regarding Yariba, since and they have been age old neighbours.

We are the tribe of 'YOORU' 'YOOBA' which means Making sacrifices, and being accepted.
Our forefathers were used to sacrifices.

You are calling Rev Samuel Johnson "omokunrin yii". The name is not even Jackson, it is Johnson. You need more research. Rev. Samuel Johnson was a Yoruba man, though an Anglican clergy. Not just a Yoruba man, he was an Oyo man, and a descendant of Alaafin Abiodun. He witnessed some of the wars in Yoruba land, and was an emissary of Alaafin Adeyemi I.
