    he needs to read some Banks, the concept of 'infinite fun space' it's not as boring and hedonistic as it sounds here.

    The thing is to make infinite fun we would need to alter our neurochemistry to alter our desensitization towards fun. The problem is this will likely impact us in other ways too which might make us too crazy, we would need to redesign the human brain and nervous system but this is something dem machines can pull off

      Still it would be fascinateibg, imagibe if you created an ecosystem or foodweb of creatures,organisms both complex an simple with no need for the emotion of boredom and still be able to progress and evolve, imagine if you could keep the fun without halting the progress.

      oh stop it, what desensitization? we invent new ways of having fun every day, and we have for the past thousand of years

    • @rayanahosn
      @rayanahosn 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@tadasturonis sure we do but you need to look into how our dopamine system works. There is such a thing as "too much fun/positive emotion" at a neurochemical level which can alter our perceived level of fun to other activities and the acitivity that drove that too much fun. In the context of infinite fun we would literaly be driven to insanity.

    Love the Banks reference.
    Well, fun is determined by the topology of your brain, of your neural networks. In Infinite Fun Space you can modify your own neural nets to make things more or less fun. Minds could make watching paint dry become the most orgasmic pleasure, because Minds have the ability to modify their own consciousness, their own code, while we humans rely on manipulating the inputs to our brains, they can change there own configurations, the functions, not just changing the inputs to control the outputs. Their Minds are not black boxes like ours are, they have full knowledge and control over the internals, not just inputs and outputs.
    They can place their experiences on a wave and ride it up and down, oscillating, and thus stretching out to eternity.

    • @TCBYEAHCUZ
      @TCBYEAHCUZ Год назад

      Even then their minds remain measured and in full control, because they can compartmentalize this euphoria to copies of themselves within themselves. It's a form of controlled hedonistic introspection.

      @maxpatrickoliviermorin2489 Год назад

      Yeah! To a point that the brain functions are configured so that the inputs have little to literally no impact on the outputs.

      Our brains are too complex to tamper with them successfully, especially while there is still scarcity, greed, and those who love to see others suffer. As to your point, St. Theresa came to love suffering and was miserable when not suffering. This fact blew her mind.

    Maybe we only think that bc our human bodies are susceptible to being eventually desensitized to fun stuff but wot if we had another "body" with different rules.... :o ...

    I didn't interpret the "infinite fun" as the minds were creating the environments , but they were finding them. The Godel incompleteness theorem implies there's no end to mathematics, so the Banks Minds would just keep finding more and more Fun things inside math.

  • @TCBYEAHCUZ
    @TCBYEAHCUZ Год назад +2

    Our brain chemistry agrees with Lex's point, just look at drug use, addiction and tolerance. Where one needs an increasing amount of stimuli to produce a given effect.
    But if we dive into the deeper meaning of what Jim says with his Culture series reference, the Minds of the culture and its citizens (the genetically engineered ones) do not abide by our current real life biology, those fictional minds and beings can manufacture their own euphoria without the downsides of tolerance and addiction. It's a complete paradigm shift, and outside context problem.

    i think we will at some point be able to control the functions of our minds. I don't think we should get rid of things like boredom and sadness or even depression, but perhaps we can keep them in check.

    I personally believe that the Lex's limited imagination is evident. His difficulty in transcending his human biases hinders his capacity to think abstractly. However, it's important to consider the concept of infinite fun in a broader perspective.
    Fun is an intrinsic human desire, a feeling we constantly seek to experience. Our cortex continuously works to satisfy our limbic system, which drives our emotional responses. When we consider the idea of infinite fun, it implies a state where there is no room for boredom, sadness, or other negative emotions. The very nature of infinite fun suggests a perpetual state of enjoyment and fulfillment.
    Therefore, when the concept of infinite fun is presented, it challenges the notion that it could somehow lack enjoyment. On the contrary, it suggests a state of limitless pleasure and satisfaction. By embracing infinite fun, we open ourselves to a world where boredom is non-existent, and happiness knows no bounds.
    In essence, the pursuit of infinite fun is not about diminishing the value of enjoyment but expanding our capacity for perpetual fulfillment. It invites us to imagine a reality where our desires are continuously met, and our experiences are endlessly delightful. By transcending our limited perspectives, we can embrace the concept of infinite fun and unlock new dimensions of joy and contentment.

    I agree with lex. I think Infinite fun is either technically impossible or unsustainable due to unintended side effects. Imo equilibrium can only be pushed so far in one direction without some counteracting force coming in, I just believe that in principle.

    This is why I believe you need God to exist for eternity without going completely insane from boredom . Eventually you will experience all there is to experience….Unless there is an entity who cannot be fully experienced because his being has no limit .
    This is why I believe the living creatures “do not cease saying Holy is the Lord God almighty” for eternity , as it says in Rev 4:8 . They never stop saying it because they never get bored of saying it .
    They are constantly achieving higher states of consciousness and experiencing greater depths of life , purely by standing with God for eternity . This is the only state of being that is worthy of an eternal life
