More people need to know about that snare. I own one and it has got to be the best purchase I've made as a drummer. It fits so many styles of music. Such a good go to snare.
I have this same tama starclassic hyperdrive kit in a different finish and I’ve tried these Evans onyx heads and they were the worst least favorite heads I’ve ever tried on my kit. Just doesn’t sound or feel good to me. Everytime I hear these heads I hate the sound even in a good recording or mix. Nothing beats some g2’s or Remo emperors or my current favorite Remo vintage emperors. These heads are the worsttttrrt for my taste and preference but the actual drums are absolutely amazing. I’ve had alotttttt of high end kits from basically every company...pearl reference, DW collectors, Sonor sq2, Yamaha phx and Yamaha live custom...ended up selling them all cause it just wasn’t the sound I had in my head and was never 110 percent happy until I bought the 5 piece tama starclassic Bubinga hyperdrive kit. Best kit for me hands down. I also bought a 5 piece tama starclassic BB hyperdrive shipped for only 1900 and it came with the new updated hardware brought down from the star drums like the quick lock tom brackets, quick lock floor Tom leg brackets, air cushioned floor Tom legs, bought it for a back up kit and the BB’s are just as amazing at such an amazing price point. Can’t beat that. Also have had a Tama Silverstar kit for years and tama’s low and mid level drums are also amazing and better than every other brand imo. They give you sooo much more in every line compared to what you actually pay. Tama all day everyday.
