    I recently build a model of one of these (made by Revell of Germany). It's made in a 1/200 scale. Its over 3 foot long and took about two months to build. Cool to see a real one in operation.

      @@thepoweroftheweed2215 most people forget the smell. i kinda wanna use tge bucket on them but don't want rotten virus contaminated guts and blood on my machine i use to help people make underground homes. j
      i can't imagine what a zombie smells like. a road kill is bad enough! the most i would do is run them over. the guts gets scraped off and cleaned off by the dirt and mud by simply driving. the bucket wheel is full of chambers and wouldn't want to clean the giant conveyor especially when its part of the house

    This video doesn't do this machine justice. This thing is HUGE (like GINORMOUS). A bulldozer once got in the way and was caught and carried all the way to the conveyor belt by one bucket. Only German Engineers would think of building a real life Decepticon.

      Well to be fair this appears to be a much smaller model. I think the machine you are talking about is the bager 288 or 293 which are the biggest bucket wheels in the world. I still wonder how exactly that incident happend though.

      @@reddeadlycreeper That was Bagger 289 which had appetite for a Caterpillar D9R dozer (in 2005).

      The bucket wheel excavators are not fast. But the visibility of the operator is limited. The dozer got stuck, the driver was however able to walk away in time.

    I am sure this is one of the excavators at the open lignite mine near Simeonovgrad in Bulgaria. Zoom in on google earth and the huge white scar on the surface looks like clouds when viewed from space. 3 nearby power stations burn the lignite from direct rail deliveries.

      Chad Perreault some of the holes are bigger than others, so it might be to help sift different things, like large rocks, from things like dirt and coal

    See they don't actually rip apart land.They are more like excavators.They pickup dirt left behind and slowly break at it.However they are very inefficient for cutting right through thick stone like butter.They work slowly but in mass quantities being very efficient.

      I'm not sure if they're used in the U.S., but they are still running in germany. They still do the same thing as in the video, mining brown coal for our electric network.

      They are still in use in Germany and some other European countries. In Germany there is however a shedule to shut down all lingite mines latest till 2038.
      A the mines near Cologne where the biggest ones work, there are viewing points for visitors.

      US - don't know. Rather unlikely. Lignite mining is in first place interesting for countries which had no other fossils and if you have consumers for the produced electrictiy nearby.
