Roy's piano intro to this song is so emotionally powerful. And Bruce is just incredible. How many male songwriters would write a song about an abandoned single mother?
I was actually sat to the left hand side of the stage as you looked it it. Perched on a bit of scaffold that supported the speakers. It was my first "proper" concert as a young lad and I honestly thought I'd damaged my hearing forever. Must have taken a fortnight to return to normal. I'm now 48 and still have tinnitus 🤣🤣
Hey Tracey I was there too my first of many Bruce concerts. Also in video around 1.15 on my pals shoulders. Great memories hope u well and still enjoying the boss x
Not performed live since 2005, and I don't believe with the full band since the 80's. Pretty please for 2023 Boss man with the intro if you don't mind :)
This was 9th July 1988 at Bramall Lane, Sheffield. I was there with my wife, just 6 weeks after our wedding. Fantastic show, and brilliant to see this footage. This version of the song was actually released on a 12 inch single, along with the studio version, plus Pink Cadillac and Chimes of Freedom. But the live version on that record does not have the piano intro, which is a great pity.
The first time I heard this piece in Tunnel of Love, I thought it didn't work. Then I heard it live And the world of music has changed. It's fantastic. Thanks Boss
Much of Tunnel of Love as brilliant as it was didn't work live but this was one of the few songs on TOL that worked live much better than in the studio. The other was Tougher Than The Rest.
Bruce gets rightful kudos as (in many eyes) the best live performer ever... even at the age of 66 he is incredible. But as a long time fan I am continually stunned to see his skills as an arranger. Compare this to the album version ... the album version is great, but this gets a whole n treatment. Do this horns not strike you of preview of what he did with the Seeger Session band and how much horns feature in the E Street Band now ? Look at Dancing in the Dark, a 'disco' song Jon Landau asked hi m to add to BITUSA and Bruce penned it in short order. It's probably my lest favourite song on the album, and of course was the huge radio hit. But check it out on the Live In Barcelona. COMPLETELY re-timed, reworked and is one do the standout tracks on that LIB set. Watch him and Stev interact after the song, both of them are stoked. He knows the fans want the hits, but he is never afraid to say "OK I know you like this old bastard as it was, but check THIS out !" Hello Ghost of Old Toam Joad live with Tom Morello. Bruce is not a man, he's a god.
What a great song...the lyrics the music everything.....but here is a master piece of arrangement.....something that he is incredibly talented at.....wow...what an underrated Album this is......
I was at this concert at Bramhall Lane- Sheffield, way back when. Brilliant! (it should go without saying). A lifetime of great memories of time spent with this guy, his band and this music. Thanks guys!
I was at the Sunday concert in July 1988 at Bramall Lane, Sheffield, England. Think this footage is from the 2 gigs that weekend. 18yrs old, my first Springsteen gig, only my 2nd ever. Travelled down from Scotland, what a magical day seeing the Boss live. I have been along for the journey ever since Wish I could do it all over again!
I remember the first time I heard this song, close to 40 years ago. I remember hearing it,stopping it, playing it again, and saying to myself, "Did he just say what I think he said?" Great song.
@@valquiriabueno5414 You think that was him?!!! It was just some guy - not him. The real him would not bother on here. But ha ha, you got fooled so easily from just his name and picture. This really cracks me up so much from laughing!!!! So funny!!!
My mum & dad met In the 80’s at a Springsteen concert in Wembley and have always said this was their unofficial wedding song 😂😂 Every time I listen to it I love it so much! Can’t wait to hopefully get some tickets for his London dates with my mum and dad when they eventually come out 😁
Bruce Springsteen dijo : " A la música , Frank Sinatra le puso la voz , Bob Dylan la letra y Elvis Presley el baile ; Bruce Springsteen y la E Street Band reunen esos contenidos con calidad y vigencia (por suerte para todos).
So many memories from when I bought the VHS at Tower Records - BS Video Anthology. I didn´t even deamed of seeing him in concert... and I couldn´t believe when I finally did. Thanks a lot, Bruce. Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil. .
Another masterpiece that slips under the radar. This was the first album of Springsteens that I bought when it came out, so this album and all after it are his new ones...
Just clearing out some stuff and came across my ticket for Bramall Lane. Tunnel of Love tour. Went to Wembly and it was so good we had to go again. Possibly one of the best Bruce concerts of all time with a song from arguably the best Bruce album. Happy Days!!
I was there at Wembley with my Mum. What a concert that was. I remember launching a one litre bottle of lemonade at the girl on her boyfriends shoulders who got in my Mums way. Kept asking her to get down but nope. So she fell down. E Street band at their absolute peak.
Always does give you your$ worth..longest concert I saw Saginaw Mich. .he played Detroit 2 nights earlier..Labour's day wind.78.. played 4+ hrs. For 1500 people.. $6.50. a ticket..ran out of songs to play.. but do remember Heartbreak Hotel
Remember when he played Born in the USA at this gig, I started just right of centre and a one point I was almost in the stand before the crowd wave moved me back! Unbelievable experience that and the whole gig! 👏
Tunnel of love wasn't even written when Bruce played Roundhay Park Leeds, I was there 7-7-85 and I got married 6 days later, and I was at this concert too 9-7-88 exactly 3 years later.
Would love to see the rest of this show from Sheffield - he's dipped into the vaults nicely in recent years, I'm hoping against hope for a Tunnel of Love era gig that was filmed to be given the official release treatment.
Roy's piano intro to this song is so emotionally powerful. And Bruce is just incredible. How many male songwriters would write a song about an abandoned single mother?
Especially one who's forced to make an inevitable choice while so young - give up and die, or rally your strength and battle on? Powerful stuff.
Exactly that
Few could or would.
Roy is a legend
Tunnel of Love is one of the greatest albums ever written just an incredible incredible array of songs
That and the River are my favourites
His best album to date in my opinion. Such beautiful, tender songwriting plus Chuck Plotkin did a great job as a producer.
I was there. Sheffield, England, thought i was having a heart attack when he first came on, the bass was so loud!

How good is Patti's voice in this unbelievable song??👏👏
This is a heavily underrated sublime masterpiece. This is the right way to play live music.
The first and easily the best concert I have ever been to - and I saw myself in this fantastic video!!
Hey Tracey I was there too my first of many Bruce concerts. Also in video around 1.15 on my pals shoulders. Great memories hope u well and still enjoying the boss x
I was there also. This was my first Bruce gig.
I was also there my 2nd time seeing him, previous was Roundhay Park Leeds 7-7-85.
One of Springsteen's best, metaphoric masterpieces. Should have been a single.
It was released as a single with this live version as B side 🎙🎙🎙
@@Andrew-Simmons Ah you are correct. It was a single in other countries but not the US, as per wikipedia.
Not performed live since 2005, and I don't believe with the full band since the 80's. Pretty please for 2023 Boss man with the intro if you don't mind :)

Love to hear it live again. That high note might be a effort mind!
I was at this concert, i came out and my big mate (Jim Shields) who is a massive Queen fan said that this was the best concert that he had been to...
