Just stumbled across this lesson and it finally struck home. I've been doing this very thing, aligning my shoulders to the target and causing the cross and causing pushes and hooks. Thanks Matt for the lesson , cant wait to try this out. So well explained.
Matt another great video on alignment, one of the key fundamentals of playing good and enjoyable golf. The alignment sticks are a brilliant idea idea and also picking your line and laying the club on this aswell. I have had difficulty in doing this correctly in the past but now following your tips it is much clearer. I will practice these tips, as I want my game to improve.
As ever another good video with great practical examples to emphasis your message. I think its going to be good on the course if I stick to your routine,
So if you were aiming extreme to one side ? Would your new feeling be kinda like your aiming to the other extreme and you’d probably find your neutral then ? Would I be close ? Been aiming too far right
Incredible that Matt is able to go through 9 whole minutes without hitting that ball on the tee. I would not be able to stand next to a teed-up ball that long without hitting it lol
Totally agree on setting the club face to target but I follow the Jim Venetos philosophy where the shoulders are very closed to target throughout the swing and yet I still send the ball straight or baby draw down the target line, so is body really that important as long as shoulders stay rooted in the same position throughout the swing to impact? 🤔
It’s a form of parallax view issue and the temptation to set a target based on a point in the distance which is further away than we can hit the ball. It’s often why it’s easier to set up for a target on a short par 3 shot, within the range of a 7 iron than a point with a driver, 350m away when we can hit the ball only 240m
Hi Matt - I don't understand how one can say that if the club face is aimed at the target and the body & feet etc are aimed 10 yds or so left of the target that one is aimed parallel left. Surely the body would then be aligned open to the target line. It seems logical to me that to be truly parallel aligned the body etc must be aimed only 2 to 4 feet left of target depending on the club being used. Similarly, if one aimed the body at the target and aligned the club face truly parallel then the club face would be aimed only 2 to 4 feet right of the target - what would be the problem with that?
I really like the video. My biggest problem is my longer irons 5 and 4. I'm not sure if I'm standing to close or to far from the ball.... Any suggestions?
Dean Munro Then we’d never play! Not really true, but we get to play all year round in all conditions. Sometimes you can get all four seasons in one day. Weather in Queensland looks so boring, in a good way.
Dean Munro Dean, if you ever come to England then you’d be welcome to come and play Minchinhamptongolfclub.co.uk , 3 courses, each very different. Don’t forget to wrap up well when you go out, factor 50 at least!
if you spend a little time using an alignment stick and aiming at different flas youll surprise yourself how well you do and how you do know how to aim, just not set up.
Pity we didn't see where the ball ended up. We only have your word that it was on the fairway. You should have a camera at other end to show where drive ended up .
Just watching this and I am so angry at myself…..I have been closing down the face or opening face and only trying to aim my feet going opposite…..I’m amazed I can get lucky and hit every once in a while and I get so angry when I slice or when I contort myself snd hit the brilliant snap hook or coming over the top…..need to get to driving range
The train track analogy derails more swings than it fixes. Stand on any train track and you will clearly see the tracks appear to converge, even over short distances (100 yds). This is what causes golfers to misunderstand the "train track" analogy. It's really not a useful method for visualising the body vs target line aim point. You also confuse people by saying your shoulders should be aiming 10-15yds left of your intended target. Considering your club head and ball are only 4 feet apart at address, why would you need your shoulders to appear 10-15 yds left at the target?? Again, this is an issue with visual perspective and trying to compensate for it. Sorry but these mental pictures simply don't work well for most golfers. Better to focus on parallel body alignment at the address position, as you did at the beginning and not relate this directly to the target. The method of using a point on the ground, 10-20 feet in front of the ball on its intended path, is a far better alignment method. When trying to aim from the golf swing position (as opposed to down a gun sight) we can aim much more accurately over short distances compared to long ones, due to the influence of perspective on our assessment of the target position.
Seriously? No mention of any sort of intermediate point in a lesson on aim? If you start like that its no wonder you see so much confusion in your students.
@@sausagembape677 The problem is with the title of his video. He's not giving a complete lesson on how to aim on a golf course. Because of course you cannot legally use alignment sticks during a round of golf. He's trying to help correct a common misalignment error between golfer's clubface aim direction and their shoulder and hips aim direction. And he's actually making some helpful advice here with that. I appreciate your point. But I appreciate his too.

This is EXACTLY what my pro said was wrong with my game in my lesson last night. Thanks Matt. Really useful and I will keep referring to this!
I think this is the best video that pertains to me I’ve ever seen. Thanks Matt
Will be thinking and trying this tomorrow night as I’ve been struggling with alignment so thank you 👌
Very helpful indeed.
Matt, love your videos keep up the fantastic work. Not as many followers or likes as Rick or Pete but just as good and entertaining!
This is a great way to explain paralax.

Thanks David, follow the routine and you’ll have perfect aim!
Great advice, it certainly help me.👍
THank you for the lesson. I started a year ago and I have improve watching you.
Thx hit alot of points that did well explained
Good stuff Matt. Golfs been on the back burner, but I'll be back in for some lessons soon.
Good to hear from you pal! Just give a text when your ready and will get you in 👍

Would I be close ? Been aiming too far right
This is one of the most valuable and easiest fixes that too few people talk about.
Matt I'm kack handed and today is my 1st monthly medal in my club gonna try this technique

Good, thanks!
Hi Matt, great video and use of the graphics. If my “tracks” were criss-crossed could this lead me to be getting stuck inside?
Great back to basic lesson
Cheers Brian! How’s the game?
@@Mattfryergolf it's getting there I'm at that stage where I'm seeing the results on the range but not yet seeing it in the scoring

Interesting point!
Can u do a lesson on hitting the ball when it's above u r below u...keep the videos coming ..cheers
Again,..useful tip thanks ,
Glad you think so, hopefully they help
@ timecode 9:35 it looks like the ball hit at "wall" and fell down. Are you playing against a screen?
Just what I needed 👌🏻⛳️ thank you
Great video. Love to see you out on course playing some golf.
Got stuff Matt thanks
Ive got a bit of stuff Terry 😉

Nice one Matt. Would be great to see you play your mate Danny Maude!
Back to basics all to often forgotten about nice lesson Matt
Thanks David. Yep often forgotten sometimes but still important
That was a “light bulb “ moment for me. Thank you. Will be going to the driving range today to correct my aim
Thanks Matt, sorry the shot was pulled. Maybe the stanced was on a slightly unleveled ground.
After playing for 4 years the penny has dropped 👍 super Matt - I just ignored this aspect and seemed to be casting ; now I’m coming more in to path
what if your club is offset which my driver is
My thought exactly. Great question.
And that's why I push/draw. For goodness sake..........grrrrrr...... Thanks Matt. Awesome!!!!
I really like the video. My biggest problem is my longer irons 5 and 4. I'm not sure if I'm standing to close or to far from the ball.... Any suggestions?

All predicated on hitting the ball correct even if you're in alignment.
You look really cold! This is a great lesson. Thanks for freezing your hands for us!
You POMS are dedicated. I live in Brisbane Queensland. I wouldn’t play if I had to wear a jumper and long pants.

Guys and GALS
Thanks for the alignment reminder Matt, I think I rush this when setting up for the shot and then realise too late that I’ve been careless.
FOUR!!!!...jk great video
Why would u not have the outside cane straight behind the ball? Surely your aiming too far left doing this

9 minutes for a pull drive 😂
10 minutes of talking and 1 hit ball, LOL that just cracks me up, sorry.
The video isnt about the swing it's about setup so I don't need to hit lots of balls sorry

His "intermediate aiming" is using the aiming sticks in this case.
