"La Complainte de Louis XVI" (Lament of Louis XVI) is a French royalist song written in 1793 after his execution by the Jacobins. The song takes place from the martyred King's perspective.

228 years ago, King Louis XVI was guillotined. Before dying, he said : "I die innocent of all the crimes imputed to me. I pardon the authors of my death, and pray God that the blood you are about to shed will never fall upon France." May God rest his soul. Le roi est mort, Vive le roi!

as a french speaking quebecer I love the french monarchy and think the king did not deserve this, I sometimes wish we were still part of france or independant instead of just a minority in canada im still bitter over our colonial history but my views have become less intense im left wing but there is something beautifull and glorious about monarchies although I dont really like the brittish one due to my political views
Oui, Louis XVI du peu que je sais de lui était un bonhomme, peut-être pas un bon roi mais il ne méritait pas la mort, il a lui-même dit qu'il ne voulait pas être roi, le tuer fut une erreur.
En effet, le pauvre n’a pas mérité la mort… Il a malheureusement hérité d’un pays ravagé par le long et catastrophique règne de son grand-père, Louis XV (celui qui nous a abandonné, les Français d’Amérique, à notre propre sort)

J'ai beau ne pas être royaliste pour un sous, cette chanson me fais comprendre que cet homme a voulu faire des choses pour son pays, et il était convaincu qu'en offrant sa vie a son peuple, celui-ci allait ce calmer, hors l'effet inverse s'est produit !

Mais bien que ces paroles soit touchante, je ne peux oublier les armées étrangères venue sur notre sol pour protéger le Roy, et c'est à partir de là que s'arrête ma sympathie pour cet homme...
Je ne suis pas monarchiste aussi mais entre la république et la monarchie, je choisis la monarchie sans hésiter, le république à rendu la France faible et lâche.
