    I used to use 28mm, then got a new road bike that has 23mm's. Honestly it did not decrease comfort. Because 28 mm tyres were cheap and the new 23'mm tyres are good quality.

    I just bought a trek 1400, that is a vintage road bike and the tires are vintage its a 20mm. Very narrow tires. I dont see 20mm's anymore in the market.

    tyre width really depends of the inner diameter of your rims, the narrower your rim it will make your tyre narrower . and the wider internal diameter then the wider your tyre will be

  • @MrShoji5150

    I think it’s depends on the tire air pressure and hardness of tire surface. Because if put air so hard in clincher tire, it feels like a tubeless tire. Also some tire are swelling if put air almost at max pressure point. My bike frame are narrow, so it fit only 25 or below size. But if put air so hard on 25c, it swelling and almost touch frames. So only choices are use 23c tire. If chose hard strong tire with almost max air pressure in 23c tire, it works much better with solid riding with better grip and rolling. I was just surprised how different changing from 25c to 23c. 23c with max air pressure makes feel less rolling resistance than 25c for long distance road ride. I am training for full distance triathlon, so small changes makes big difference 🙏.

      shoji O 23mm at max pressure? What year is it, 1996?

    • @MrShoji5150
      @MrShoji5150 6 лет назад +1

      Ronald Kuba no. I just bought triathlon bike last summer. It comes with 700 25c. And I was using since, I tried two different tires with 25c, and I prefer more hardness on my tire, so I tend to put air almost close to maximum point because when I ride long distance, l feels like a my tire losing little air (even though it’s very subtle) through the way (usually I ride between half distance to full distance triathlon of bike). As my personal riding preference, I definitely love 23c by changing from 25c old tire of clincher category!! I know article about speed and tire size myth, so people tend to back to wider size...it’s just my preference...and before I was using 25c tire, I need to push hard to keep up 18 - 20 mile/h, but after changing to 23c, I feel like I don’t need same power to keep up!! I don’t care what other people said, I just happy with that😙

      I'm afraid how bike industry can put some crazy ideas in the custommer head... What is that new problem with confort, bad roads etc?
      A road bike is designed to be the quicker on a good road, not to be confortable on gravels!! 25mm is heavy, smoothie, and feel really bad on climbing (on good roads).
      It's exactly the same deal with the 27.5 and 29 in mountain bike. 26" was perfect on downhill, 27.5 is a chewing gum (I don't even speak of 29" which is just... I have no words...) and the industry explain that it,is,better, everybody say "great, I want new bike!"
      incredible...

    So, you could say, that aerodynamically, a 23mm tire will in most cases be faster. Which means, the rear can be 25mm, preferably with a wider rim, for some comfort, but a 23mm upfront. Although 25mm tires almost feel like gravel tires if you're used to 23s.
    Rony, you still run 23s fr and re on the Speed Concept?

  • @archetypex65
    @archetypex65 7 лет назад +1

    Rim width does have an effect, but you can run 25mm on a standard 20 mm with rim and still be faster than 23mm. when you jump up to 28mm tyre otyremm, then you need to have at least a 23mm or 25mm with rim to take advantage of the wider tire that will unequivocally roll faster.

      A UCI mechanic said with clinchers you need to tune the rim to the tyre. A standard rim is for 21 to 23mm the wider rims are for 25mm. If you mix and match, the profile of the tyre changes. And is not recommended.

      Isaac García no, there aren't many rim brake rims that would be wide enough for good aero with 28mm tires.

    How inefficient in mph/kph would you say running the 25mm at 100psi compared to running the 28mm at 80psi on 25mm 88mm deep dish wheels? I have 25.2mm width 88mm depth wheels coming in the mail & i don't know whether to run 25mm conti 4000 IIs or 28mm conti 4000 IIs. If the difference is less than .1 mph~ between them i wouldnt be too concerned as the 28mm are the exact same rolling resistance at 80psi as the 25mm at 100psi. In my personal experience I gain about 30% more overall comfort from road vibrations & bumps with the 20 less psi & extra tire material offered by the 28mms. Could this be something i could test?

    • @ronykuba
      @ronykuba  7 лет назад +2

      25,2mm external width is quite narrow, as the rim has to be at least 105% of the tire width to achieve optimal aerodynamics. I would say 23mm are going to be fastest, with 25mm as a good middle ground. 28mm tires need at least 30mm external rim width to achieve the desired flow characteristics.

    Can I put a 700 x 19/24 tube in a 25mm tire? Is there any risk/performance decrease by doing this? Reason for asking is it seems to be easier/cheaper to find latex tubes in this smaller size.

      Gianmarco Puglisi it's perfectly fine

    • @gregr1154
      @gregr1154 6 лет назад

      perfectly fine until you patch it. it'll be lighter, and it'll stretch to match the size, but when you patch it then when you re-inflate it it'll stretch more than the patch and in time the patch might pull away from the inner tube itself. should be fine to get you home, at which point you'd likely replace the tube with a new one.

    • @ronykuba
      @ronykuba  7 лет назад +2

      thanks for the question. According to bicyclerollingresistance.com the Corsa Speed is the fastest tire currently on the market, regardless of size or type. If you compare two identical models in 23 and 25mm, then the larger one is going to have less rolling resistance, but you can only benefit from this if your rim and tire widths are dialled, aerodynamically speaking.
