Railroads Online has given me the chance to make this channel and share my personality to a greater audience. I have made new friends, colleagues and memories with this game and the community around it. It is my goal to push them to do better and support them when they do. If anyone else is like me, then it is our job to get the message across. It's not the time to be angry or judge, instead, it is the time to celebrate and rally the devs to keep going and improve the game. Let's spread the message. ❤🚂
@@The_New_IKBI'm very encouraged that they've said a firm no to early access, and a firm no to a console version. They don't want to release a half baked product, and they want to limit their scope. I will gladly wait an additional year, two years in order to let them polish this until it shines.
@@WasatchWind Agreed, I would love to play r.r.o with my father, but I am depressed with the state of the game. I want to say train sim 2014 ran better than this game does at times.
With a major publisher like Astragon, we don't be heard no matter who is leading the community. I will eat my hat when the game is undeniably 100% playable
“Oh hey a new update! Let me check out the new map.” *loads a prelaid map for a Quick Look around before deciding to commit.* Almost at the first industry. Hits the worlds tiniest thinnest tree ever that’s juuuuust within the loading gauge and my engine glitches and falls through the ground. Game just committed THE cardinal sin. A developer made map, and there was crap in the way.
You can make all the improvements you want, but until you address the physics and foundation of the game, everything is going to feel like its a placeholder for something more refined. I first played in October 2021 and to be honest, the only real difference between now and then is that they just added more. More engines, more maps, more industries, more mechanics. But they never changed the train handling physics and the core gameplay loop. I would've expected something more complex and fluid than a 'take this from A to B' simulator. It's not a bad game (in terms of gameplay), but it always felt like they should've done more. It's like that one kid from high school that never moved on and now just sits around trying to remind people of what they did, forgetting everyone knows this, but they moved on already. I will always remember this game for what it used to be, but I feel it's finally time to put this one on the shelf. The sun may set, and the moon may rise, but tomorrow is another day.
This game has a huge potential that it is not using, driving fom A to B isnt really that exciting in the long run. What I would love this game to be is make it into a real sandbox game where you can create your own map and share with other players.
I mean it’s a train simulator it’d be nice for groundwork’s but otherwise I’d argue it’s decent I’ve played since early 22. And besides could be farming simulator graphics are about 10 years behind and the recent launch was just all glitches
Likewise honestly. I don't wish bad, or failure on the devs. But, I ain't playin' it anytime soon. And they don't need my time, they have plenty of more tolerant players, lol
Yeah, for about 2 years I wasn’t able to play railroads online because the graphics requirements bogged due to the weather and ue5 update, so I tried the legacy branch and it also did not work. They need to wake up. My fps is extremely bad now due to all the locomotives and cars o have. It never did this before. It’s very thrown together. And rushed, a lot of people think since Hyce announced century of steam, Railroads online has rushed everything to try to keep up, they never will. C of S is not even released and is ten times better than railroads online. I have requested certain features like inter changeable whistles would be nice, I’m tired of single chimes.
I'm leaving my two cents here for anyone that cares. I too am one of the earliest players of Railroads Online. I found kAN Gaming's first video on it about a week after it was uploaded, and I was immediately hooked on the game's premise, and bought it almost immediately. (The price was only 20 bucks back then, which was an absolute steal.) Another week goes by after the first time I launched the game, and I eventually found the Unofficial Discord server at the time, and that's where I met my good friend Angry Ragtimer- I started running trains on his save, and for the sake of keeping this story short, it was amazing. Yeah, RRO was still horribly flawed back then, but it was the first 2 months of the game's overall lifespan, and it was still largely playable. Nowadays, I can't help but feel nothing but pure, unbridled hatred for what's happened over RRO's life. I was around for every bit of drama; I witnessed all 3 times the development team broke apart because of Keume or someone else; I watched the overall quality of what used to be my favorite game crash and burn. Railroads Online is a very special game to a lot of people, and it pisses me off that it was treated so poorly over the years- it still runs like shit, most basic features are still horribly flawed and broken, and I had to go from recommending the game to everyone I know, to actively speaking against even looking at the purchase button on sketchy third-party websites like CDKeys. It's that bad, and I sincerely wish I was lying. Long story short, and as a message to everyone in the community- FUCK THIS GAME. Do not waste your hard-earned or gifted money on this mess of a video game. It lost the vision of what it wanted to be. Buy Railroader, or wait for the development of Century of Steam. Railroads Online is NOT worth your valuable time on this Earth. Be upset with me if you want, but this is a summary of my experience with the game.
Agree 💯The game sucked, but it was the friends I met along the way that made it so fun. The game still sucks, and we moved on to other more playable games. Simple as.
If nothing else, it is entertaining to watch the drunken mess dance. I still can't believe there was a point where it almost became Brazilian railroad simulator.
You know its sad if I find a roblox game (Steam and Steel) to be more of an actual fun experience that feels more enjoyable to play with or without friends. Than it is to play RO and the worst part is that its only around 5 bucks for access into that game compared to a 30 dollar game that had a three year disaster of development. So if you cant wait for CoS to come out then play Steam and Steel on roblox as its basically RO but Turkish Victorian era, that is better.
I've been wishing the Devs would focus on the multiplayer aspect of their multiplayer game. Been saying it for years, but hearing the Devs + Astragon claiming it's a targeted attack is just grim and delusional.
There was reasons why a walkout of developers happened so early on the game life was due to the people's concerns and issues kept falling on deaf ears.
@@emeraldhyper2905Definitely. The main dev of RO sounds like he really struggles to communicate with anyone else on the game, and is very ironclad on doing what he feels like with the game
@WasatchWind To those that know and others that don't. There have been other people who development or code games before talked to the lead dev and given helpful advice but that also went nowhere. And when the walkout happened it's quite ironic that he needed help and so Astrogon became RRO publisher. There was a time when the game itself was running solely in a Windows no editor file. And when you show it and tell it to someone who codes they would think your crazy as it shouldn't work but when they see this there brains begins to melt trying to understand what there looking at.
I want this game to succeed and I want it to be better. I bought it and I don't want to relegate it to the depths of my Steam library's reject bin. I want RO to join the ranks of Railroader and Derail Valley, in bucking the trend and view that the gaming public has of "train games" - that train games are soulless, cynical, barely-functionnal, point-A-to-B, predatory DLC farms. And for a year leading up to the announcement of 1.0, it looked like things were moving in the right direction. Then the 1.0 announcement happened and it felt like a triumphant announcement that the game was ready to leave Early Access, that the worst of the bugs, the multiplayer desync and the performance were fixed and that we were finally getting the final map and the endgame locomotive which had been teased in the years prior, to reflect that. And then 1.0 launched and bugs that had been present since launch were still present. The desync causing bells/doors/windows to leave locomotives for clients, cars refusing to wake-up and resulting in trains string-lining and exploding and more were all still present and performance was still less than ideal, with larger maps causing significant slowdowns. All while launching alongside two paid DLC's, which... was worrying. And the lack of any sort of post 1.0 roadmap, as well as the statements from devs on the Reddit and Steam Forums, stating that the bugs aren't as bad as it's made out to be or that performance isn't that bad, or that multiplayer is playable, all go against what players are experiencing, as is evidenced in the testimony you've shown in the video and from the things that are being said over on the Reddit and Steam Forums. It doesn't instill confidence. I still have hope for the game and, again, I don't want to see this game fail, because when one game fails - then the train game genre as a whole, loses. The stigma only gets further perpetuated. I'd personally like to see some transparency, humility and honesty about the situation from the devs, much like what the Railroader devs showcased in their most recent devlog, as well as see a roadmap, or hear a commitment to fixing the bugs, the performance and the desync issues. That's all I hope from the game and the team and I wish them the best of luck and hope we see some further improvements, even though game is now at 1.0.
Oh this is nowhere near the big collapse a few years ago. I'm honestly surprised the game survived past that point. I'll admit the game _did_ improve after that, but it's still a far, far cry from what we were all promised.
@@OldYellowCab1929 The thing is I wonder if RRO will even have that active of a community by the time Century of Steam releases. We're probably like a year and a half or more away from that, and I'm not expecting Astragon to keep at updates for that long.
I completely agree. I think there will always be a small percentage of people who play the game, and that’s fine, but I think the majority of the community will lose interest or patience, if they haven’t already.
Brother they don’t respect us. They released the game to 1.0 and a bizarre choice to release to consoles. There remains basic bugs from early access. But there’s to many people that think RRO can not do any wrong and they will keep releasing updates with little to no play testing. WE THE ONES THAT PLAYED EARLY ACCESS WERE THE PLAY TESTERS. we were the ones to point out everything. I’ve spent 500 hours playing this game and finally have stopped because I’ve given up hope on any meaningful changes. They also insult us with having us buy dlc for one train and unity assets. It’s time to move on to railroader and century of steam as well. And I feel 95% sure that RRO will release a new game with the same engines and call it something different.
@@IronHorsefan1869With all due respect - why do people keep asking for mouse heavy simulation games on console? The planet coaster 2 community right now is dealing with the awful decision to release the game simultaneously on consoles, and I'm just baffled where there's a demand for this. I cannot imagine trying to play games like this with a controller. It just feels categorically wrong
@@WasatchWind Playing games with a Keyboard feels WRONG and it’s a Hassle!! I'm sick and tired of you Self entitled PC Gamers who can afford Decent Computers thinking you should get all the Good Stuff! It's not all about You!!

You PC Gamers shouldn’t get all the Good Train Games!! That’s WHY!
@@IronHorsefan1869 @IronHorsefan1869 I would not play a Zelda game with a keyboard. You use the right peripheral for the right game genre. VR can work for train sims, but wanting to use buttons and sticks for a game like this is just bizarre to me. Calling for devs to release games on multiple systems at once only results in a less refined game for everyone.
out of all the broken/changed things in the new update that has really pissed me off, is thr change down to 3 digit numbers on cars. ALL my cars are numbered in 4 digits so when i want to buy more its completely fucked.
The little pet peeve I had is that the Heisler used to have a great whistle. Great sound, great reverb - then they inexplicably removed it. I was confused, and in the next update, it was back in. Huh, I thought. Must have been a bug. Then they once again removed the reverb. And just all the whistles in the game in general are really disappointing. The class 125 is such a pretty locomotive but I can't bring myself to drive it because it has such a synthy whistle. It goes without saying, but Century of Steam, they knew what we wanted. They knew that the gamefeel of good sound was extremely important to railfans.
This is an extremely well-made video and I’m glad to see our community being voiced. Performance issues are by far the biggest issue our server has throughout playing. It’s an issue that can’t be fixed by restarting the game meaning we can’t do anything to prevent it without hampering our enjoyment of the game. Please focus on performance, RO Devs. We love your game, but we need better performance! Cheers!
@@ivanthevaluable2559Well that's what's going on here. They see glaring foundational problems that need fixing, and they release a shiny new locomotive instead to distract everyone. I find it telling that in the devlogs of Century of Steam, they show locomotives like the 8-18c or 10-26d over and over but with slight improvements each time - improved sound, improved steam effects, new gameplay mechanics, fixed glitches - They know how to make a train game. They understand what people want. It's going to be a fantastic game with a big focus on realism, but they're also putting a lot of effort into making the gameplay fun, having good quality of life features, and having music and art that give the game real soul. Ten years from now RO will be a footnote as the catalyst that brought Century of Steam into existence.
I want this game to succeed, I really do, but this game was NOT fit to release in the state it was in. I have experienced so many issues like being kicked out of the UI upon derailing, the map staying on my screen no matter what I do, and cars just straight up freezing and refusing to be moved. I believe what should have happened was that the update should have come out on the beta branch first, like all of the other updates before, but for an extended period of time to make sure that every single issue was patched before release. While I will give the devs a little bit of slack because part of this rushed release was most likely astragon’s doing, it’s still no excuse for how rushed this release was. I love this game with all of my heart, and I’ll still play it alongside the likes of century of steam, railroader, and Derail Valley, but it’s time to fix the dents, squash the bugs, and make this game the best it can possibly be.
I want this game to just keep going only because I think it'll be really funny to see it decay as railroader and derail valley continue to improve and when Century of Steam finally releases and finishes it off. The development of this game has been a complete farce from start to "full release."
Thanks for this video, for the wake up call. There is a lot wrong with this game and there is even more wrong with the community manager/developer. The problems that players describe in your video are not too bad compared to what I'm faced with. For me and a certain percentage gamers the game has become completely unplayable because they are still confronted with the glass floor bug in the 1.0 release version. The glass floor bug is probably a conflict between the video card and the RO application. The result is that the ground textures are not allowed to load into the game world, which is game breaking if you are confronted with this, the game has been unplayable for me since a few months now. The glass floor bug is now 1 year old, the developer has been aware of this for a long time, for example he wrote to a gamer on the Steam forum last March that the bug would be fixed asap. It remained, with words, an empty promise, there is still no fix. He (or one of his guy's) suggest that you as game user can solve the problem by yourself by setting the graphics settings to maximum in the options menu and then resetting them to the previous values, the problem would be solved then. But I have experienced that this is not the case and other gamers reported the same, but the developer no longer responds and leaves us with the problem. I waited until the release version came out, disappointed that the game breaking bug has still not been fixed. I reported it several times on the steam forum, which did not yield any response. I did see that the developer immediately responded with a thank you to a RUclips video from a well-known game influencer who praised the game to the skies. Due to the refusal of the developer/communication manager to even communicate with gamers who are in the 1.0 release version still dealing with the 1 year old game breaking bug while a 9 month old promise is not being put into action, I think that the developer can now be accused of culpable indifference. In the meantime, the developer/community manager has taken things even further. I have not written anything improper on the Steam forum, I was only to the point, with irrefutable facts I have pointed out the problem and stated that the proposed solution (just change the graphics settings) does not work. And I expressed my strong suspicion that the developer seems not able of fixing the problems. To my surprise, I saw two days later that this for me has resulted in a permanent forum and game ban. This is how the RO developer/communication manager deals with gamers who have paid for their software but cannot use it due a serious game breaking bug and express justified criticism of it. If you do that you are then completely silenced by RO.
I haven't found many bugs but I've found a few: 1. On mesa plains on my laptop the Montezuma tender bugged and I needed to delete it. 2. When starting in another direction. You need to tap the throttle a second time before it moves 3. This is the last but the cars don't like to roll when bumped into unlike how they used to.
I think the tragic thing is, this game has been living on borrowed time ever since Century of Steam was announced. It's harsh to say that but when you look at the progress COS has made in such "little" time, granted it had a year of being made in secret, but still it looks better, has had infinitely better communication and so much more, I think everyone knew that once COS was announced it was kinda over, and when you think about how most/all of COS's devs were once affiliated with Railroads Online... I just paints a sad picture of whatever is going on behind the scenes at RO.
Railroads Online had a chance though. When Mark announced "I am leaving Railroads Online" he teased Century of Steam in that video by noting he had his own game ideas. When a dozen other devs jumped ship in the days after Mark, I can't imagine Keume didn't know that they were leaving to make their own game. Keume was the first person outside of what is now Studio 346 to have gotten some foresight that "hey half the RO! team left at the same time, they're cooking something." Keume had that whole year to catch up RO! to CoS. Instead what happened? The RO! team pissed away time with Joao causing a second dev shake-up drama only a few months after S346 split off, and then all they accomplished leading up to that was an uneven spline update and switch to UE5. So CoS gets revealed, and RO! squandered their year of lead time and starts parroting CoS devlogs. CoS adds automatic couplers? Get it in RO! CoS has a D&RG Class-125! Get it in RO! CoS has a steamship pier! Put one in RO! Railroads Online instead of being a market leader is parroting a game that isn't even finished, they've spent the last year looking like a scared kid trying to mimic every CoS devlog and it's made RO! worse because they don't have an identity beyond "CoS shovelware clone" now. I also don't think RO! has a team like S346 is. People focus on Hyce/Mark because he is the face of the company, but go watch the CoS researcher devlog. Their team is practically the deans of railroad history, a combination of engineers (both the academic and drive train type), musicians, artists and historians with bold ideas and a strong work ethic. What does Keume have to support RO! A blabbermouth community admin full of half truths and another admin with short temper and thin skin as community manager? A couple Roblox modelers who just barely learned Blender? A cell phone game company doing quality control and a shovelware publisher? I'm not saying Keume couldn't have rebuilt himself a team with S346's caliber, but it's obvious that when Mark and the rest of the S346 team left they took the brains with them. Keume is basically a Jr. League basketball coach taking his team to the Olympics vs. S346's NBA Dream Team. Keume himself and the team he's built were intrinsically destined to fail. He could have tried to change his game's ambitions, or create a unique identity for RO!, he could have tried to attract a new stronger team to help him. Instead he spent two years playing second fiddle to S346's ambitions.
@@jacoblyman9441 yes but wait until COS releases, because when I see the dev streams it’s all stutter fest. People will be dissapointed in them too if they can’t deliver solid performance without a RTX 6090.
@@jandewezel We know that performance and optimization is something that CoS values immensely. While the finial verdict won't be out until it releases their commitment to taking their time and not rushing gives me high confidence in them. To be fair to them and many games recording can sometimes be very unkind especially on the bitrate. While it was of course a very early build they were running the demo at the NNGC on fairly standard laptops. Not anything crazy fancy. We will see but I have faith in them.
For me, the only surprising thing about the update is how the community reacted to it. I think it's largely down to new players joining and righty being upset. My expectations were absolutely rock bottom tho so this really shouldn't have been a surprise
Where I'm at with RO is checking in every so often going "I can't believe this thing is still kicking." I bought the game a month after release and was right in the thick of the game's near total collapse pre spline update. Knowing everything that happened behind the scenes I have no confidence this will ever be a decent game.
If RRO doesnt do anything to improve itself, its going to crash n burn into a canyon as the CoS train takes over the market in the genre whenever it comes out, lol
@@arkroyal1598 I mean, I can't say one way that RRO is doing better then the videos showcasing COS, I'd say they're already out of the market, even though they might be gaining sales now. The only market I believe they can stay in is the console market, since they have a lower standard.
@@arkroyal1598 really the only thing stopping CoS from taking the spot now is CoS has a "we'll release when it's finished" strategy. I wouldn't be shocked if we wait a few more years for that (although CoS pausing Patreon payments since they're skipping their December video is an awesome move, showing they're trying not to take the consumer's money when they don't have a product to deliver). I played the CoS demo at the convention last year and it felt like a prettier RO! inspired game, but everything in the year since has been so exponentially better it makes CoS look like a completely different game than the demo I touched last year, and I can only imagine how much more it will grow before release. Railroads Online has so many problems I really don't know if it can be saved. My fear is that 1) they'll shove it full of bloated DLC to milk every last cent before CoS arrives to kill it or 2) RO will become abandonware, and Astragon will suddenly announce "Railroads Online 2" to market about when CoS is finally ready to release, and Railroads Online 2 will just be a sloppy port of RO! into "Unreal 6" or whatever engine we're on by then that inherits it's predecessors bugs ala KSP 2 did. The only solution to save RO! is for a lot of painful crunch time to pay off years of technical debt, and I doubt they'll try.
I think RRO has been on borrowed time from the minute CoS was announced. When the day comes that Century of Steam comes to early access, RRO will probably lose a huge amount of what momentum it has left.
It's obvious, RO is about as complete as it can be with the team and limited passion behind it... Hyce and Century of Steam is almost certainly going to be the future of this genre of game/simulation... My sense is that RO just didn't have the dedication/passion/drive (and most importantly, money) behind it for one reason or another and now that a clearly better competitor is coming for their audience they don't have a choice but to go to market and hope to capture as much bucks as they can ahead of that. It would be a waste of their time and effort to not do this now...
Well its been like that since CoS was first announced. After each video CoS made on a certain topic RO had later made an update that added similar stuff. Couplers? Check. Tunnels? Check. Dock pier? Check there. The only things that RO cant really do that CoS can is have terraform terrain, interchangeable whistles, High detail locomotives like the three piston shay. And so forth. If CoS comes out in 2026 then RO might have a chance of catching up but if its this year then clearly there running out of time.
@@bond1j89 Well heres something interesting to know about that. When it was the old dev team, one of them managed to make a working tunnel system that is a placeable track. NOT a preplaced item. However Keume still refused to share the code so that it can implemented in the game. So when the walkout happened the same one who made the concept of the tunnels was also the one who left. Now you are correct its been in the works for a while I would guess. However the key difference here is that RO only managed to make prelaid tunnels and not any useable tunnels for the plays to place because that would mean they would have to make modified terrain possible. But the kicker would be lots of rework on the code would be needed or start from scratch again because how it was made didnt think ahead of having terrain to be modified at all. So yes you be correct on your statement. However it was also never really implemented as a placeable track piece unlike CoS is able to do as they do have modify terrain capabilities
eh, i just feel like i was let down, as i entered the game when hyce was still in RRO. there was big videos that basically said that we could've gotten 100+ locomotives. and because we only have ~20, i feel like i was cheated out of a bigger experience. but, that future is no longer true.
A RUclipsr named Hyce was one of the Railroads Online developers who actually ended up leaving the team. To see such potential in a terrible state due to yet again poor and sloppy developer shenanigans would have definitely saddened him.
As someone who bought the game from the start, it was out. To say it has wasted potential is a massive understatment. To explain my view on the game itself and only itself. Is that it was rushed instead of being refined slowly and surely. It was never ready for the 1.0 as there was many things left to be fixed that was claimed it was but never really for most. The code of the game originally was not ment to run the way it should have. Trust me most of my friends who has a type of game development or coding background was constantly confused how it was working to begin it. When astrogon and black sheep came into the development it should of used that chance to rework or overhaul the whole game to run with the best optimization possible first and formost. And to see the state of thevgame it is now is sadly not surprising as he saw it was hard to believe they can fix all bugs in that short of deadline when there is plenty of work still left to be done. Maybe one day it will be in a much better state, but only time can tell.
The game should really be called Railroads Offline given how great it is in single player but terrible in multiplayer. The games code will alwyss be Keumes Spaghetti code no matter what they do and at this point theyre really just trying to get enough money before Century of Steam Comes out. If you want to play a good and stable multiplayer train game please look to Railroader or Derail Valley with modded multiplayer. Both are infinitely better than RO at the moment. I would wish well for this game butnive been doing that for a long time now. They cant make excuses now and shouldnt have full released the game just yet. But thats just my opinions if you enjoy it please enjoy it but dont expect that it will get significantly better in the near Future.
I do hope the devs focus on fixing the bugs, as a player who started on console but has watched kAN gaming and Hyce through the years, I want it to succeed. And I’d rather wait months without new content like trains, buildings, etc if it means I can couple the damn montezuma to the big cars. Have no idea why it’s that engine specifically, but yeah. And having my train not randomly fly off the tracks at 60 miles an hour would be nice. I’ll keep playing, but I think we need an easier building system and just fix the problems that have gone unchecked for years
I haven’t actually plaid online myself yet. But in single player, the current physics issues which force me to operate trains with a maximum of 6 cars - else your train stringlines even on straight track, is currently blocking me from fully enjoying the game. Also, since the last patch even before 1.0, the sun seems to be rising in the south and setting in the north, which is not necessarily annoying but is indicative of a Quality Control problem. Having been a software and QC tester myself- This, combined with the fact that the derailing bug in crossover tracks has returned feels as if they have been working on updates in parallel. Which then leads to fixes in one patch actually not yet incorporated in the next update, and so those bugs return. I have seen my company do this as well and from a Customer Care point of view it is absolutely annoying to witness
I hope your message gets through to the developers. A lot of people, myself included, really want to buy the game but are dismayed by the state of its release .. it's not a good look for potential players
I really hope this video gets the traction it deserves, both me and my girlfriend have such huge problems with RRO that we have just given up playing it entirely and are just gonna get CoS when it comes out. We think the whole game is just a massive dumpster fire thats trying to make itself look better than it really is.
Piss on this game. Justice for Extended! They promised us all those features back. They could have had his code! This was just keumes bravado and we all paid the price. Dude is a scumbag, new publishers are scummy too. I got my moneys worth back in the day. The crime is the wasted potential...
I'm glad someone took the time to make a video like this. I've refused to play Railroads Online for the last six months because it feels like the game has lost its soul. I've played the game for about two years until I took my hiatus, and over that time, I watched new content debut while critical bugs continue to go unchecked patch after patch after patch. I have really enjoyed the game, the railroads I've built, and the challenges the game provided, but there came a point where it felt like the developers stopped caring. I know that sounds callous, but it's the message that I eventually received. Don't get me wrong, I love getting new content. I'm a huge advocate for adding new locomotives, rolling stock, maps and features, but you also have to give the game itself the same level of care and attention. Some of the updates seemed rather inconsequential, especially when existing issues require so much more attention. It was incredibly frustrating to watch as new content was added, and consequently introduced new issues that would just be added to the list of bugs and issues that would most likely never be fixed. I also feel like, after a certain point, the development of the game seemed a bit directionless, and that features were being added for the sake of adding features, and to get the game to a "launchable" state. This game had so much promise and I was incredibly optimistic for its success when I first discovered the game, but now, with other games like Railroader and Century of Steam on the horizon, I struggle to find a reason to come back to RRO. This game rekindled my interest in early railroading, and opened up a whole new world (narrow gauge) that I hadn't ventured deeply into until playing this game. I want to see it do well, but given the game's ongoing track record of poor performance, internal/staff issues, lack of detail and directionless development, I think it would take a lot for me to come back to this game. Especially with games like Railroader and CoS that have not only implemented similar features and gameplay, but do so with their own unique spin and with a tangible level of care and effort. I don't write any of this comment to tear RRO down, or discourage anyone from playing the game. I want to see this game do well. But if I had to sum up my message to the RRO team in just a few sentences, I would say: Show us you care about your game. Show us that you've put time, care, passion and attention to detail into everything you add or modify. Start by fixing the long list of issues and concerns raised by the player base, and then, moving forward, take your time to create content that is meaningful, engaging and functionally consistent. People play games like this, myself included, because they love the railroad, and I have a feeling that the developers started this project for a similar reason. Show us that the passion for the game isn't lost. If the passion is indeed lost, then I do not see myself returning to RRO at all.
Consoles player here, absolutely love the game and I'm glad to finally have access but it shouldn't have been called a full release. Should have kept the early access title as I've encountered some frustration with bugs but luckily not performance as I only played single player so far. Still happy with my purchase and can't wait for updates
For as frustrating or broken this game may be, pepole have enjoyed and created memories and friendships on it. For what it might be, we cant let this game bury its own grave. Great video Kist!
well to adress the Problem with RO it's THE developer and Rights holder, who just implemented a previous game mod from UE to create a whole Game and didn't let anyone else code it, as we Know he LOST an ENTIRE Team of modellers and coder because he didn't want to give out the code to the team so of course it's bad and buggy if one person does all by himself instead of letting more people work together. I don't know how it's running since the joining of astragon but it seems nothing has changed in Developing. He mostlikly still ueses the UE3 adaption since that's the reason there is no "physic" instead of making his own thing work on UE5 , unlike the lost dev team, which turns out theier own game...
I haven't played RRO in over a year due mainly to the fact that every update meant we had to completely relay every inch of track on my friends save (Which does include many miles of extra track for allowing direct routes bypassing industries to not interfere with others running to those industries) in order to not have any random derailment events on perfectly flat track that we have gone over millions of times. Also, all of the save regressions in the event we did have a derail because any attempt to go near the derailed train would cause even the host to enter into a crash loop as relogging close to the derailed train would result in an insta crash. Then we arrive at the ultimate reason we generally stopped playing RRO entirely over a year ago, I cannot log into my friends save that we spent over a year fighting through update after update, rebuild after rebuild, and finally managed to link up to every industry on the map for the first time. He can load into it just fine, but I crash every time I attempt to load into the save, even if he attempts to regress the save file. In a product with "Online" literally in the name, the online aspect of the game has seemingly never been a priority of the developers. Focusing on providing weak engine after weak engine, and smaller and smaller rolling stock, they attempted to throw enough shiny new assets in our face in the hopes that would be enough to distract us from the fact that we can't even purchase these new assets in game because we can't stay connected well enough to earn the income to afford them. My advice going forward, fix the issues that have been present since day one of the game. I genuinely loved playing the game early on and felt extremely achieved upon pulling a 500-ton coal train up and over a mountain on a 3.5% grade. But all the hours spent having to redo everything on the map for the 20th time because of a single engine that we can't even afford was added is just a slap in the face.
Upon buying on console (Xbox Series X), I found everything to be working. I could not get the map to open. I tried resetting the controller, I’ve tried swapping the controllers. It did not change the outcome. And I was pressing the right key that’s shown in the control panel. I could open the mini-map but not bigger size. I was having a hard time seeing what industry was what on the mini-map
besides the physics bugs, the problem that annoys me the most is the track laying and maps. 1. it is impossible to edit laid track without deleting them. it is impossible to smooth out track curves and elevation changes after the track exists. 2. it is impossible to fixate track to a position and look around while laying track. this means more often than not my tracks end up s bending all over the place. 3. the elevation changes on the maps are way too steep and force us to use 5+% grades and or use bridges everywhere to bridge these steep changes. some rails i build where one big bridge that was spanning half the map in distance while climbing along the mountain in horrible s curves as there is no way to align track along walls and or ground. 4. right now with the locomotives locked behind a progression system i'm forced to grind for hours or cheat with custom industries to get the money and exp to get a train that can actually run the track i'm laying with more than one load behind me. 5. track isn't resplicing itself into more optimal segment length and placements. it should be possible to lay track without arbitrarily confirm the placement to set a splice point. 6. most ui selections aren't remembered and that means i have to constnatly reselect what i want to use. be it probs, bridges, switches, and so on. 7. it is impossible to hotswap between different track/bridges/switches types and thus as said in 6. it needs to be constantly reseltected. i spend more time in the menu than actually laying the track. 8. it is not possible to edit the world. the world is one static mesh with height displacement. they added "tunnels" but these are just a cut in the one mesh that has a straight tube mesh inside and a few rocks that hide the seem.
I want them to fix the game, but I also want new content props, especially HORSES. They can also give us the cabins from the Logging Camp as separate assets as they already exist and it would make the 1880's towns much better. Simple things need quality control like the wave direction on the Mesa map is 90 degrees off. They need a 'pick list' and quality control to which that WAS THE PURPOSE of the beta program. We were the BETA TESTERS but there was not a lot of feedback with us AT ALL.
The point of no return for RRO I think was just after the second map released, I strongly believe that if they had changed the gameplay loop to be more enjoyable rather than just making the next random update they had the 1.0 version that the game wouldn't be in this state, I think part of this was also the fault part of the community as I remember lots of people only asking for new locomotives and pushing people that had anything slightly critical to say out of the picture.
I've been playing since it was first released and i can tell you its not the first time for performance issues. One update to the game made my first map unplayable because of lag. That was back in the day with the old system where you laid ballast and then track, and had to pay to cut down trees. It was fixed. The track laying is vastly better than it used to be. The performance is better overall than it used to be. The physics are still not perfect, but overall they are better. The list goes on. While I agree it is very frustrating, especially the multiplayer part, in my experience stuff does get fixed and improved. I wish things were more polished from the get-go. but historically that's not how the game has been. I guess its because i have been playing for so long but I'm not surprised and i just deal with it.
My personal gripe with the update is that it feels WAAAAAY too early for DLC, at least DLC that's anything but cosmetic. My other gripe is that I don't mind a locomotive or two being included for a DLC, but having the ability to replace trees should have been included with the base game, and not locked behind DLC. I could understand if there were new building props and station skins, maybe even as a new map. But I've been looking forward to replantable trees since props were first introduced. To have them locked behind DLC, much less the DLC that wasn't gifted to EA players, just feels wrong. I feel much the same as most of the other players in this video. I want to see RRO succeeded, but some of the decisions that are made cause me to scratch my head in confusion. I've watched this game change over the years since I started playing it 3 years ago. I even saw the huge walkout that happened during the first time around. I just don't want to see this game fail or fall short.
1. I found that I can't snap to a shed, but can snap from it. 2. While trying to connect at all, no one in the party experienced crashes from me leaving. However, my issue is that I could not join any game running Mesa Plains, or one that was in a different region. The only 1 time I could join Mesa was when the host set the server FPS to 60 instead of 120. When deleting an engine via the Destroy tool, it only made it invisible and prevented driving onto that part of the track. Upon a restart, the engine would reappear. Sometimes an Industry that's been deleted would also reappear upon restart. As for the new props in the DLC, the trees and animals are really cool, but the rocks are disgustingly small! Even one of them is a pebble. I was hoping some of those big boulders on the map would be included.
I can't say much because i can only run RO in the legacy branch making my potato laptop cook, but from footage I've seen this game definitely needs refinement.
I love the game and want it to succeed but its hard to enjoy if rolling stock keeps randomly decoupling and/or derailing while moving. Or as of the release i start from stationary to moving regardless of how much throttle i apply its as if the train hits a brick wall and immediatly stops and more often than not that ends up causing some rolling stock to just derail. Theres an incline where i kept having rolling stock keep derailing for no reason. The only way to fix it with out having to completly redoing the track was to leave and reload the save and moving a smaller engine all the way to the rear just to ensure no sudden and random disconection or derailing of the rolling stock. But otherwise is an ok game. Also would love to have map sizes that would require longer trains/ manifest trains.
Wishlisted the game when it came out in early access, but seeing i got burned before I wasn't gonna invest in early access. Too many times with games in the builder genre we see the developers run off with the money and never to be seen again. Maybe I'm wrong, but I remember the game looked like a survival game were you had to build your own railroads from either first or third person view and was focused on the multiplayer aspect. I'm just not sure what it is now. You can build your train network and towns, but are those towns filled with life or is it just scenery placed on the map? I'm also unsure about how long the gameplay loop remains fun. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy train tycoon games, but is this like that or what? Glad I waited, I don't think I will be buying it after all, especially not now that i read the stream reviews and all the issues still at hand, cause i foresee that the game will be abandoned soon.
RO used to be one of my fav games but now I just can’t find the motivation to play it. But ever since around the time hyce left the game honestly never felt the same.
I can't even play the game on console for some reason. I have been trying to make a new save file but for some reason it takes me to pine valley, and when I leave it doesn't save the game. Its sad that one of the train games that I was looking forward to was kind of a let down
I have played Railroads Online since October 2021, around the time when hotfixes were daily because there were just that many bugs! Railroads Online did make progress, but progress to 1.0? No. I feel unfortunately proven right when I saw that 1.0 announcement, and I feel that even before 1.0, popcorning and having the locomotive you're in & driving rubber band back 0.1m all the while the bell chord shakes like it's possessed? Or I could mention anything, just anything about the props you place in the game. Or simply bringing up Unreal Engine 5's TAA, a performance & PC temperature nightmare if left unoptimized. I run one a 3070Ti and rarely ever run multiplayer sessions. This is a game I want to like. I play it, and I like the developers that don't often talk on the discussion forums, only because I find there's times where some of these developers come off as condescending about the game. I'm not exactly quiet about my critiques of the game but what I enjoy the gameplay loop this game captures, and think it's something that the game especially has both given and not given variety to at the same time. I can only hope there is serious optimizations for the game now that 1.0 is out, the team has no excuse for a game in this state to be considered a full release. I can only hope the devs do see and understand where you and everyone in this video can see where you're coming from.
I know this post has been cited on the steam forums and the thread's since been locked before I could reply since I was mentioned there. All I'll say is I don't agree with everyone in that thread but understand the sentiment those there have at the least. I'm only saying that because I think mentioning Century of Steam or Hyce is a recipe for a topic lock.
I haven’t been able to play since they released the Alaskan map. The won’t even load, I just get a fatal error every time. Even on a fresh install of the game and a fresh blank map. I want to see the game succeed but I don’t expect much changes based on the way which I was attacked by one of the community managers for posting an honest review.
you mean the forum nazis? yeah, the staff they have is beyond toxic and should not even be mods or let alone be near a staff role. id never allow them to have a position on any of the servers i manage. probably ban them on sight
I hosted an 8 hour multiplayer session today with numerous players coming and going, some staying for hours. There were no significant technical problems though I had some problems hitting undocumented and uconfigurable hotkeys that I had to figure out by trial and error. =\ My machine is undergoing a major upgrade,. I have 2 GPUs, a 4090 and a RTX 6000, on an 800 series motherboard with a cheap temporary Ryzen 5 processor... My client was derailing a hell of a lot but he was hotdogging a bit too much...
I've watched content on RRO since the early days when KAN Gaming did content on its release and hell when Hyce did content on the game as a developer. I always wanted to play this on console as im on PS5 and plan on after getting more experience in my own personal save of getting familiar with the game to start doing content on it for my channel (yes i do 7 Days to Die content on RUclips but am familiar with trains and loved them since i was a kid, im not a complete noob with them, would love to do content on the game), I've only seen feedback in this video from the pc side of things and figured I'll give ya'll my 54 hours of experience so far with the PS5 version, its all single player ill admit it but the game actually runs pretty good for performance wise, I've got some BIG gripes with it. 1) When laying down track what infuriates me is that there's no way to set the grade of your hills to be a precise amount you want to go up. Ive gotta guess when laying tracks up a hill and basically play this really dumb game of eyeballing the grade the game wants to give me which can wind up being very roller coaster like at times, why didn't the dev team add the functionality of allowing the player on console to use the up and down arrows/dpad to determine your grade that you want?! 2) when i got a new locomotive and rolled it to my rolling stock with automatic/knuckle couplers on the locomotive and rolling stock the couplers absolutely refused to couple properly even after ensuring the knuckles are opened and having to reshuffle the entire train! 3) Couplers for both link and pin and knuckles the hit boxes really need work cause when trying to couple or uncouple with link and pin especially get extremely frustrating to do when playing this "look for the exact pixel to access the coupler you want" game 4) this kind of ties into number 1 but ill say it anyways, the switches if you're trying to go on a flat or fairly flat ground and there's the slightest incline in your track? The switches will process to try to ascend to the heavens or hell depending on how you're laying it. 5) this isn't as big of an issue but it still should be said nonetheless, if you want to name your save a custom railroad name so you remember which game you're playing and wanting to match it with your locomotives and rolling stock? You cannot name it something custom at all, they give us console people just template names thinking we can't type/don't have a keyboard that we type in with controllers, names being like "D.&R.G.W" or "Durango and Silverton" and the locomotive & rolling stock names being like "collbran" with the quotation marks on the cab and just generic names for rolling stock like "log car" I love playing this game, but queme or however its spelled really needs to pull his head out of his butt and polish this game for not only pc and multiplayer by the looks of it, but also console as well.
Other things I don't like about other then the poor optimizations is the limitation with industry platform layouts. I would love it if you could design your own layout. that would open up a whole new level of customization to the game
I played the game back when it first released till around early last year. Why did I stop, well I grew bored and frustrated by it. Why? Well they claimed it was a sandbox game yet there is no true sandbox mode. Locomotives and cars are still locked by xp or funds. (which personally i know its a game but a locomotive company in real life would only care that you had the money for a locomotive, not if you were experienced or not). So then okay what about simulation, well there is not really any. Has it changed a bit and got a bit better yes but it still does not provide a engaging experience. Additionally having no npcs or even proper towns already placed in game ruined any immersion. Terrain editing is still not possible which makes you have to lay unrealistic grades and alignments. The customization of locomotives and cars, while there to a extent, has been too limited to ever make me feel like I am truly running my own railroad with its own identity. Not having the ability to even change the font color has been a annoyance to me since day one. I don't wish them ill will but I think they really need to sit down and decide what exactly they want this game to be. Because as long as you can't edit terrain, or buy locomotives and cars without being locked by xp or funds then its not a true sandbox game. Likewise if you never implement proper steam simulation or physics then it is not a simulator either And if you neglect the online multiplayer experience so much to the point of the issues expressed here then its not a multiplayer online game either. I personally feel that the game ended up falling into the trap that many other early access games do where the early access is a cop out for strenuous testing as they can always say oh well we will just patch it later. Plenty of other games have fallen into this trap. Now for me personally I do some derail valley while waiting for CoS that will fill my preferences both era wise, simulation wise and customization wise. But for those who still want to play RO and are invested into it I hope they figure out something.
The most important thing to get fixed is the EULA still today (December 13th, 2024 - post release!) prohibiting the starting of the game: (c) use the Game Software, or permit use of the Game Software, in any kind of network, except as otherwise explicitly permitted in writing by Stefan Kelnberger; Once this is rectified, optimization and bug fixing galore until the game becomes playable as advertised.
It would be somewhat funny if that might be the reason why multiplayer needs fixed for everyone, as they never got the developer's written permission mailed to them with a secret optimization code that fixes everything
I think it's also sad that they have engines added that where build after 1893 and even railroad cars build after 1893, which have no Airbrakes. Which is illegal, becouse all new build railroad cars and engines need to have Airbrakes after 1893 in the US and all old rollingstock needs to be equipped with them after 1900. It would make the game easier becouse you don't have to worry that cars pile up if you brake to hard. Also the Multiplayer Performance is still bad. Until this is fixed I will play Railroader, SimRail or if it releases before you fixed it century of steam. All the other Multiplayer Train games that I have are having close to no issues in Multiplayer since release of them. Only RRO has it.
I missed the golden age right before unreal engine 5 was release unreal engine 4 was the best age of the online part of the game I know a lot of friends wasn't able to play the game after unreal engine 5. I think its sad that they worry more about dlc then there performs of the game. I stop playing this game for 3 months hoping full release would fix most of these issues but sadly its only worse also people open your eyes they just release the game to get more money from us p.s sorry to console players this should have ever be on console. I have a high end pc and I have trouble running the game also that's why they gave console players half the game.
Well because of my darker comment past with this game. I came to feel I need to Wait for the fix to come out after each new version before I talk about them. I seen old bugs startup again old fixed bugs come back with new version. With time they work to fix them all again. I never comment on play other then Single Player because that is all I play. It is a Fair Price for what you get. I have had Tons of fun way over my investment value. If I gave my honest opinion on 1.0 it would be the new map is far below the quality of the others. I do not want to play on it because it looks bad to me. I have had almost zero problems with 1.0 I hope they keep working on it in the direction for all to play in a quality way. I love the new asset packs. If I was to say how to make it better I would ask for the ability to move Props Up and Down to set them under ground on sloped ground. Railbeds of gray rock with the Brown dirt ones that would match the new map more. Still I will wait and see what they do to fix it.
Win10 (latest drivers) "Fatal Error" appears constantly (game crashes to desktop), even when you standing still in the game. GPU and CPU is cool even on "epic" settings. UE5 fault? I fixed it by tuning the setting to "medium". Sounds like rambuffering more than a desync, cause have this problem in Single Player.
Lane track on someone else’s server is difficult because you don’t always get the linkage thing it gives it to you and then one minute it won’t ever give it to you again for a while
I feel like astrogon is a major reason on why railroads online 1.0 got released. Astrogon didn’t want to fund rro probably so they pushed keume to get the game out, hence the inclusion of dlcs. Blacksheep is the only thing keeping this game from absolutely destroying it self. Back before blacksheep got on the project the game used to be a horrid and buggy mess in Multiplayer but nowadays it’s actually playable with some bugs.
Ive followed this game since hyce was a dev, and just bought it for myself on ps5. I like the game, but as a console player, im annoyed that they released 1.0 with features missing for console players that are available to PC players. And would it kill them to put in settings to let us control the day/night cycle? I hope studio 346 brings century of steam to console, or that I get a computer able to play it when it releases
CoS will be pc only. One of the reasons for that is something that RO has run into with the console port (and that you may have run into by this point)is that you can't letter your locomotives or rolling stock whatever you want. As part of the console agreement you can only choose from a list of railroad and locomotive names. To be fair the devs can't really do much about that due to the licensing agreements when porting it to console but it takes some of the fun out of it not being able to name your railroad or cars what you want.
I bought the game on release day. I was so excited to see how the game came along. It was fun for a year or so, but then it started getting worse and worse. I was there for the first obliteration of the discord server. That was the final straw for me. I played for maybe a month after the discord implosion and then i just got fed up. My computer's SSD went shortly thereafter, and i didnt have a computer for about a year. I got the computer fixed but it still had issues so i hadnt redownloaded the game. I now bought a gaming laptop. I considered downloading the game again to see where it had gone but ultimately decided not to. I willnlikely never download it again, Especially with certain other train games released or on the way. Im sad to see what happened to a game thay ince had great potential.
It's a shame because I can see so much more potential in this than I can with games like Railroader (as much as I love railroader). But the UI is hot garbage, the controls are finnickey, the tutorials are sluggish, and twigs can completely derail a train. I still find the game fun and will keep playing it, but I cant suggest it to anyone else just yet
One of the problems I've had with the game on PC is that after an update I couldn't load the game anymore with no notice and seems like they was trying to limit the people who can play the game so they can have less people to complain I really like the game one of the best ones around but I had to wait for ages to be able to play it again and now I play on console but the game doesn't feel the same it feels like your lock out of some of the things I used to do and what I see so many people on RUclips do unfortunately I don't really have friends so I can't say much about the multiplayer but you just about always hear someone on RUclips complaining about about the performance and and there was a moment when it seems like everyone was leaving the game but that was though other reasons and not really the game play and it made me think is the game being worked on properly or is it just another game that was just meant to be as a money maker but it wasn't but does seem like it when your being made to change from PC to console and only do like half the things and but like so many others I hope for some of the things to be fixed not everything needs fixing but at least some of the things as all games have some something a little different or something not quite right but thats one of the things that makes a game what it is
So, the problem is, this is a niche game in a niche market. Anything we get here is a blessing. That said, the games multiplayer performance has been and still is not great. We love the game and it’s great fun, but it’s the friends and the good times that we love most….the double header rerail and the cars in low orbit…not so much. Do we need another 2-8-0? No. We need a game that runs. And as a long time narrow gauge/ model railroader I can tell you the vibe is more with less on the cheap. It’s an absolute crime that geared engines haven’t received more love. And not a forney to be found?! The early road map is what sucked me in….and now? Well, it just sorta sucks we’ll likely never see half of what could have been. We love you RRO, but please get it together!
I bought the game day one, and this should have NOT been released into 1.0 so early on, it was nowhere NEAR ready. I found 12 bugs after the 1.0 release that were still present before it. The game was rushed into early access most likely due to the pressure from astrogen.
Right I've found there road map if u view it they've said they're working on a whole load of updates and patches for all platforms as for the specific date it says Q1 of 2025
i am just waiting for CoS to come out Railroader allready is what RRO could ave been and has an activ modding comunity. RRO never recovered from that Walk off viasko but with Devs siting in an ivory tower and deaf ears and a loud minority of white knights telling everyone to shut up and leave its allready over. the game isnt dead but on activ live suport for a few years so far.
@GerrywithaG1997 That's stupid of the developers. The game wasn't ready for a full release when I last played it... And it doesn't sound like they've been keeping apace with updates.
I was just wondering if anybody else is having trouble downloading the DLCs on PS5 I have purchased both of them and it tells me that I have obtain them but it will not give me the option to download them not happy
The core game is fun for the most part. I'm not one of those "oh (blank) game will be so much better so screw this one" kind of people, and I tend to find things I enjoy in any train game. Railroads Online was SUPPOSED to be a fun multiplayer train game, though, and it misses the multiplayer aspect entirely. I find it gets boring to play alone after so long, as it's really not a train simulator and it's far too easy to operate to really keep my attention. With people, it would be far more entertaining and fun, but the game just does not run well with multiple people in a server. After all this time, we also do not have basic AI animals and people, yet there is a coach in game.... It seems focus has gone into pushing content, and nothing else. It's a huge shame, but not entirely unexpected. All of the decent train games end up following that path.
I only play in single player, and even in single player the game is very poorly optimised: continuous lag and stuttering. I play on a MSI GF 63 Thin R10 gaming laptop of 2021
am i the only one who doesnt have issues with this game? this is literally the first time ive seen anything negative about RO... ive never had any of the issues listed in the video
I don’t know why anyone would care about his opinion to be honest. All he does is whinge and complain about ANY train game as he can’t smell the steam over his own farts.
The fact that Century of Steam exists is probably how i would think how Hyce feels but if you want. If you check his year review of railroader at 22:30 is a good example of his opinion as of recent
Wait for CoS to drop, better people doing a better job!
@@crazytrucker6689 lol train sim 2014 was one of the better years of train sim.
“Oh hey a new update! Let me check out the new map.” *loads a prelaid map for a Quick Look around before deciding to commit.*
Almost at the first industry.
I can't say I'm surprised at the state of the game at 1.0. Nice video covering the communities concerns.
Decoupling myself from this game and making it just an amusing thing I'd check in on every so often was a very wise choice.
Likewise honestly. I don't wish bad, or failure on the devs. But, I ain't playin' it anytime soon. And they don't need my time, they have plenty of more tolerant players, lol
@SeanJAnimations I don't wish bad on the game, but I do acknowledge that it'll happen whether I do or not.
@@WasatchWind Oh 100%
Yeah, for about 2 years I wasn’t able to play railroads online because the graphics requirements bogged due to the weather and ue5 update, so I tried the legacy branch and it also did not work. They need to wake up. My fps is extremely bad now due to all the locomotives and cars o have. It never did this before. It’s very thrown together. And rushed, a lot of people think since Hyce announced century of steam,
Railroads online has rushed everything to try to keep up, they never will. C of S is not even released and is ten times better than railroads online. I have requested certain features like inter changeable whistles would be nice, I’m tired of single chimes.
Dont worry, adding more locomotives in the future will help.
@@blazeitmichael5094 got to love that old tech tree vid that hyce did that he renamed to "A pointless video about a tech tree that will never happen"
Simple as.
Derail Valley is also really good but it's single player. It's got a standard mode and VR as well. Really really good graphics.
If nothing else, it is entertaining to watch the drunken mess dance. I still can't believe there was a point where it almost became Brazilian railroad simulator.
@@WasatchWind I ignored the drama for RRO and like the game honestly. But I play it with only a couple of friends.
So if you cant wait for CoS to come out then play Steam and Steel on roblox as its basically RO but Turkish Victorian era, that is better.
almost like this was pointed out 3 years ago and yet the devs turned a blind eye to the warnings. suffer in your arrogance now keume

Hubris and arrogance have been, and apparently will continue to be, the downfall of this game.
His mod team can go right with him. Disgusting behavior.
It’s sad to see so many people unpleased with the game but sometimes the truth is sad
Oh this is nowhere near the big collapse a few years ago. I'm honestly surprised the game survived past that point. I'll admit the game _did_ improve after that, but it's still a far, far cry from what we were all promised.
An entirely new game is being made because of how lackluster this game is.
^^ and frankly, it’s going to annihilate RRO unless they make some pretty massive changes, but I don’t think that’ll happen
The Console choice is NOT Bizarre! I HATE PC Gaming and am overjoyed it’s on Consoles!

Calling for devs to release games on multiple systems at once only results in a less refined game for everyone.
As someone who has played this game from the beginning i truly feel so sad to see this game failing...
out of all the broken/changed things in the new update that has really pissed me off, is thr change down to 3 digit numbers on cars.
Cheers!
How about that Uintah Mallet to take your gnarly corners, eh?
@@ivanthevaluable2559Well that's what's going on here. They see glaring foundational problems that need fixing, and they release a shiny new locomotive instead to distract everyone.
I find it telling that in the devlogs of Century of Steam, they show locomotives like the 8-18c or 10-26d over and over but with slight improvements each time - improved sound, improved steam effects, new gameplay mechanics, fixed glitches -
They know how to make a train game.
I UNDERSTAND YOUR PAIN😫😫😫😫
I want this game to just keep going only because I think it'll be really funny to see it decay as railroader and derail valley continue to improve and when Century of Steam finally releases and finishes it off.
The development of this game has been a complete farce from start to "full release."
Waited three years for this game to improve. Oh well ...good to know there are more-promising games that are playable
I haven't found many bugs but I've found a few:
1. On mesa plains on my laptop the Montezuma tender bugged and I needed to delete it.
2. When starting in another direction. You need to tap the throttle a second time before it moves
Where I'm at with RO is checking in every so often going "I can't believe this thing is still kicking."
I bought the game a month after release and was right in the thick of the game's near total collapse pre spline update.
Knowing everything that happened behind the scenes I have no confidence this will ever be a decent game.
Century of Steam cant come soon enough
@@emeraldhyper2905 Ro was always talking about tunnels they were just taking to long to implement them.
I wouldn’t count your chickens about Century of steam I mean not many games land exceeding expectations these days so I’ll believe it when I see it 😂
eh, i just feel like i was let down, as i entered the game when hyce was still in RRO. there was big videos that basically said that we could've gotten 100+ locomotives. and because we only have ~20, i feel like i was cheated out of a bigger experience. but, that future is no longer true.

A RUclipsr named Hyce was one of the Railroads Online developers who actually ended up leaving the team. To see such potential in a terrible state due to yet again poor and sloppy developer shenanigans would have definitely saddened him.
Yeah, when I saw Hyce leave the team I knew the game was in trouble
I've also noticed that the rear automatic coupler on the Tweetsie's tender doesn't work either

I’ll keep playing, but I think we need an easier building system and just fix the problems that have gone unchecked for years
60s wild dude
Don’t get me wrong. I still want RRO to succeed, because it still looks very impressive, but I will pause playing until these bugs are fixed
I hope your message gets through to the developers. A lot of people, myself included, really want to buy the game but are dismayed by the state of its release .. it's not a good look for potential players
someone with a voice is finally giving us a voice :)
Don't even try with this game anymore, just wait for century of steam, it seems like what railroads online envisioned to be.
But if I had to sum up my message to the RRO team in just a few sentences, I would say:
Show us you care about your game.
Great video Kist!
well to adress the Problem with RO it's THE developer and Rights holder,
who just implemented a previous game mod from UE to create a whole Game and didn't let anyone else code it,
as we Know he LOST an ENTIRE Team of modellers and coder because he didn't want to give out the code to the team so
of course it's bad and buggy if one person does all by himself instead of letting more people work together.
I don't know how it's running since the joining of astragon but it seems nothing has changed in Developing.
He mostlikly still ueses the UE3 adaption since that's the reason there is no "physic"
instead of making his own thing work on UE5 ,
unlike the lost dev team, which turns out theier own game...
I was so excited to play this game when I bought it two days ago until the sound kept cutting out and most importantly the main map will not come on
Upon buying on console (Xbox Series X), I found everything to be working.
4:21 what does popcorning mean?
In multi-player the cars will jump up and down as on the track looking kind of like popcorn in a popper.
The thing that sucks is that the multiplayer for PC can work with Xbox but not with PS5, that limits the fun time with me and my friends
But the trees flying when cut down is funny though
Captain_Choo_choo be like "NOBODY expiriencing these issues. Best regards!"
because he bans them for saying anything.
We were unable to replicate these issues... you're banned!
Goku is worse lol. Go ask about Railroads Extended functionality😂
This game is so unpolished on so many levels. I believe the developers will not get on after 1.0. This game is dead.
3) Couplers for both link and pin and knuckles the hit boxes really need work cause when trying to couple or uncouple with link and pin especially get extremely frustrating to do when playing this "look for the exact pixel to access the coupler you want" game
4) this kind of ties into number 1 but ill say it anyways, the switches if you're trying to go on a flat or fairly flat ground and there's the slightest incline in your track? The switches will process to try to ascend to the heavens or hell depending on how you're laying it.
5) this isn't as big of an issue but it still should be said nonetheless, if you want to name your save a custom railroad name so you remember which game you're playing and wanting to match it with your locomotives and rolling stock? You cannot name it something custom at all, they give us console people just template names thinking we can't type/don't have a keyboard that we type in with controllers, names being like "D.&R.G.W" or "Durango and Silverton" and the locomotive & rolling stock names being like "collbran" with the quotation marks on the cab and just generic names for rolling stock like "log car"
I love playing this game, but queme or however its spelled really needs to pull his head out of his butt and polish this game for not only pc and multiplayer by the looks of it, but also console as well.
The most important thing to get fixed is the EULA still today (December 13th, 2024 - post release!) prohibiting the starting of the game:
(c) use the Game Software, or permit use of the Game Software, in any kind of network, except as otherwise explicitly permitted in writing by Stefan Kelnberger;
Once this is rectified, optimization and bug fixing galore until the game becomes playable as advertised.
It would be somewhat funny if that might be the reason why multiplayer needs fixed for everyone, as they never got the developer's written permission mailed to them with a secret optimization code that fixes everything
Lmao that's the thing they said they were gonna fix too and they never have
I dropped the game as soon as i seen the publisher. That was a big ass red flag. The games under this publisher are nothing but garbage.
This game is just a placeholder until Century of Steam comes out.
I totally agree with all the points made in the video
Win10 (latest drivers) "Fatal Error" appears constantly (game crashes to desktop), even when you standing still in the game. GPU and CPU is cool even on "epic" settings. UE5 fault? I fixed it by tuning the setting to "medium". Sounds like rambuffering more than a desync, cause have this problem in Single Player.
I find the performance is alright on series s but the graphics are horrible, my feedback would be more optimisation for weaker consoles
Back before blacksheep got on the project the game used to be a horrid and buggy mess in Multiplayer but nowadays it’s actually playable with some bugs.
well said single player is good but multiplayer is dead
I have a Solution for all these problems wait for century of steam
This game is a scam. Always has been from the beginning. I want my $50 back but I’ll never get it.
One of the problems I've had with the game on PC is that after an update I couldn't load the game anymore with no notice and seems like they was trying to limit the people who can play the game so they can have less people to complain I really like the game one of the best ones around but I had to wait for ages to be able to play it again and now I play on console but the game doesn't feel the same it feels like your lock out of some of the things I used to do and what I see so many people on RUclips do unfortunately I don't really have friends so I can't say much about the multiplayer but you just about always hear someone on RUclips complaining about about the performance and and there was a moment when it seems like everyone was leaving the game but that was though other reasons and not really the game play and it made me think is the game being worked on properly or is it just another game that was just meant to be as a money maker but it wasn't but does seem like it when your being made to change from PC to console and only do like half the things and but like so many others I hope for some of the things to be fixed not everything needs fixing but at least some of the things as all games have some something a little different or something not quite right but thats one of the things that makes a game what it is
It seems like the game has went off the rails
I have not played since the update yet. I was doing okay before. I hope I do not have these bugs.
I bought the game day one, and this should have NOT been released into 1.0 so early on, it was nowhere NEAR ready. I found 12 bugs after the 1.0 release that were still present before it. The game was rushed into early access most likely due to the pressure from astrogen.
An opening the doors on the sheds and fire boxes is difficult to for some reason
Railroader kinda sucks as it is extremely laggy for me.
Wait did the update claim it left early access or something?
It left early access and released to 1.0 earlier this month. They announced it on Steam
@GerrywithaG1997 That's stupid of the developers. The game wasn't ready for a full release when I last played it... And it doesn't sound like they've been keeping apace with updates.
Miss Mach tender paints too
If they would just focus on fixing bugs and poishing it before adding anything else to it they can salvage it.
I was just wondering if anybody else is having trouble downloading the DLCs on PS5 I have purchased both of them and it tells me that I have obtain them but it will not give me the option to download them not happy
A slight glitching for other people that join the server
I play on a MSI GF 63 Thin R10 gaming laptop of 2021
am i the only one who doesnt have issues with this game? this is literally the first time ive seen anything negative about RO... ive never had any of the issues listed in the video
additionally might i add ive been playing on PC since a few months after it was available as "early release" on steam
Anyone know hyce's opinion on RO now?
I don’t know why anyone would care about his opinion to be honest. All he does is whinge and complain about ANY train game as he can’t smell the steam over his own farts.
The fact that Century of Steam exists is probably how i would think how Hyce feels but if you want. If you check his year review of railroader at 22:30 is a good example of his opinion as of recent
@emeraldhyper2905 thx kind sir
Reminds me of fallout 76s first launch
