You'll have to figure out the timing for the keys, but it gets easier to learn but hard to apply in battle. One you do the guard hop, you can also use A/D + RC to do a sliding slash which helps with stamina recovery + mobility. If you have any questions about your keyboard and mouse setup let me know. For me shift for slinger aim and ctrl/alt for tap run/hold run is better since it is much easier and less stressed for your ring finger when you multi hop. shift+a to hop left is much more comfy than ctrl+a.

wow a 3 year old video and it is literally EXACTLY what I needed, I play switch axe and picked up charge blade, I watched Arekkz chargeblade tutorial (great new player resource) but now that i've picked up some basics I really wanted to learn how to optimize my gameplay, thank you for making this video it's really amazing and well put together!
uh.... i'm still Unga Bunga, but one thing I did learn when playing SA thxs to this vid is the forward slam with the axe instead of the upper cut for multiplayer. I forgot about that move and always knocked ppl into the air XD (I do have two builds for two different charge blades). My SA CB is not quite optimized yet tho

The introductory roadmap and outline at the beginning of the video, as well as the extensive timestamp lists in the description, are immensely valuable. Where many content creators play "hide the ball" with the juicy information contained in their videos to maximize watch (read: advertising) time, you're relying on the fact that the content is GOOD to keep eyeballs on the video. MHW is my first MH game, I instantly fell in love with this Rubik's Cube of a weapon. I've been trying to find anything to help me get better and this was far and away the single best resource of information I have found. This has made me want to get back into MHW even more. As much as I love Rise and have been enjoying it, I've been missing the bigger indepth and large biomes of World.
Im having my first fresh replay after 1 year of finishing iceborne. It feels so much better than rise. I had fun only by walking around and gathering stuffs 🫠
3:35 It's crazy to think that every cb player knows that long ass combo (or a similar, and equally long) by heart, I never realized how many steps it took. To anyone getting into cb, don't be scared the more you know about cb the more sense every button of the combo makes
Yeah after 2000hrs with near 3000 CB uses, I ran into confusion when trying to explain the combo for my newbie friend, I can't remember those button combinations when not touching my controller xD
I definitely F that one up sometimes, I have a tendency to do (Hold B, Y+B, Hold B, RT B) > (RT, Hold B, Y, RT B) which has a higher chance of over heating your sword. I gotta remember to do this one as its faster and better (Y, Hold B, Y, RT B) > (RT , Hold B, Y, RT B) ^.^'

I've been playing CB for ~250 hrs and in the first minute of the video I learn you could charge phials into an immediate axe spin attack. blows my mind
only came to learn the mindset of the two different playstyle and when to use either style. came out started rethinking on how i play CB in general.... and i just started playing the game again few days ago. 10/10 would definitely come back to watch again.

World was my introduction to the series, and for some reason I constantly gravitated towards CB because everything just clicked. And for a while I was kicking ass. But after beating Shara and unlocking the Guiding Lands, I realized that I need to understand this weapon better and honestly this guide is eye opening.

Lovely Guide here. I just wanted to add to 3:35. I prefer over charging my phails (red phail) before charging my shield. So I'll load the first set into the shield, overcharge phails, charge the shield, load the second set (you'll still have the overcharged phails after charging the shield) then immediately charge sword slam. The combo is very similiar, I just charge the shield at the end of the combo, followed by the charged sword. Whether this is more efficient, I can't tell you. This is just a variation I've grown to like using.

Really grateful for you breaking down the CB, been a CB main for so long, i know know the combos, do minimal managing phials. but the greater insight has proven to change my style on playing.
I was exactly the same and always just did things without even thinking... then when I started to speedrun I had to think about what combos are the most effective in certain parts of the fight, which then made me realise, “oh shit, ppl out there must be the same,” so I did this to help ppl better themselves. It’s applying discipline to what you already know in a way 🙏

i'm only watching around 30 minutes in (saed playstyle) since yesterday, but goddaym what a difference those phial management advices are, now i get more consistent at dealing damage during the hunt.
I join MH franchise this summer, i chose the charger blade cause it has everything (sword, shield , axe). This guide is so freakin amazing, i finish the base game without dying. But dang, the monster at iceborne is so imba, still need to learn alot. Thanks man

Btw, After watching this guide I easily improved my skills so much I started soloing monsters sub 10mins while carting less and increased my DPs output. This has changed my views on the weapon itself
amazing videos. Clear in the speech, succint, discuss pitfalls, shows the combos and the button presses for both Xbox and PS4. Only thing left is to what type of food bonus you should aim for, if you can use gourment vouchers. (Which are quite easy to get now)
This was a very good and informative video. I typically run all weapons with a huge LS bias, but this video will definitely have a positive effect on how I run CB. Thanks.
Late comment but I figured I may as well: Excellent guide, thank you for making it! I've been meaning to start a fresh file playing only charge blade so I can progressively assimilate the weapon's playstyle over the course of the game's difficulty curve and I'll definitely be referring back to this guide as I start getting my bearings with it.
I think it'll be a whole lot better if, instead of saying specific buttons, you use the button functions. so say, for the charge blade, there will be the light attack button, the heavy attack button, the block button and the aim button. for example, in order to charge the shield, you'll say, "press both the light and heavy attack buttons at the same time three times, and before the animation of the third attack passes this point, press the block button to cancel the attack and transfer your phials to your shield, charging it."
Thats a good idea for the sake of cross platforms! I do have better ideas on how it's currently done, but my ambition requires better editing software, which I have got yet. Really appreciate your feedback, thank you for this and your support!

I've been playing CB for ~250 hrs and in the first minute of the video I learn you could charge phials into an immediate axe spin attack. blows my mind
only came to learn the mindset of the two different playstyle and when to use either style. came out started rethinking on how i play CB in general.... and i just started playing the game again few days ago. 10/10 would definitely come back to watch again.

World was my introduction to the series, and for some reason I constantly gravitated towards CB because everything just clicked. And for a while I was kicking ass. But after beating Shara and unlocking the Guiding Lands, I realized that I need to understand this weapon better and honestly this guide is eye opening.

You're guide is one of the most comprehensive guide I've found so far and has got my basic muscle memory of charging; to a point where I'm more comfortable with the weapon.
This has to be the most in-depth, well thought out and organized videos on CB I've ever stumbled upon. I'm gonna keep this video at hand since I need to generally improve my damage opportunities with the weapon.Tbh I'm a CB main, but after watching this for the first time I already noticed many of my mistakes regarding my DPS output. I just wanted to add to 3:35.
I prefer over charging my phails (red phail) before charging my shield.
So I'll load the first set into the shield, overcharge phails, charge the shield, load the second set (you'll still have the overcharged phails after charging the shield) then immediately charge sword slam.
The combo is very similiar, I just charge the shield at the end of the combo, followed by the charged sword.
Whether this is more efficient, I can't tell you. This is just a variation I've grown to like using.

Really grateful for you breaking down the CB, been a CB main for so long, i know know the combos, do minimal managing phials. but the greater insight has proven to change my style on playing.
I was exactly the same and always just did things without even thinking... then when I started to speedrun I had to think about what combos are the most effective in certain parts of the fight, which then made me realise, “oh shit, ppl out there must be the same,” so I did this to help ppl better themselves. It’s applying discipline to what you already know in a way 🙏

i'm only watching around 30 minutes in (saed playstyle) since yesterday, but goddaym what a difference those phial management advices are, now i get more consistent at dealing damage during the hunt.

I join MH franchise this summer, i chose the charger blade cause it has everything (sword, shield , axe). This guide is so freakin amazing, i finish the base game without dying. But dang, the monster at iceborne is so imba, still need to learn alot. Thanks man

I'm surprised this vid posted last May, I thought every MHW guide video posted looong time ago. I bought mhw and iceborne less than two weeks ago, been playing for 100 hours, 99% using CB, and just today I found out Savage Axe mode, damn, why did they hide the icon when it is inactive...

I've played CB since I started MHW. I watched dozens if guides on it and this is one of the best. The section on timers and phial resets was incredibly useful. SAED is dead and I have found my new religion. I subscribed as soon ad I finished this video!

Btw, After watching this guide I easily improved my skills so much I started soloing monsters sub 10mins while carting less and increased my DPs output. This has changed my views on the weapon itself

Only thing left is to what type of food bonus you should aim for, if you can use gourment vouchers. (Which are quite easy to get now)

Late comment but I figured I may as well: Excellent guide, thank you for making it! I've been meaning to start a fresh file playing only charge blade so I can progressively assimilate the weapon's playstyle over the course of the game's difficulty curve and I'll definitely be referring back to this guide as I start getting my bearings with it.
I think it'll be a whole lot better if, instead of saying specific buttons, you use the button functions.
so say, for the charge blade, there will be the light attack button, the heavy attack button, the block button and the aim button.
for example, in order to charge the shield, you'll say, "press both the light and heavy attack buttons at the same time three times, and before the animation of the third attack passes this point, press the block button to cancel the attack and transfer your phials to your shield, charging it."
Thats a good idea for the sake of cross platforms! I do have better ideas on how it's currently done, but my ambition requires better editing software, which I have got yet. Really appreciate your feedback, thank you for this and your support!
