I’ve just come back from Scarborough and saw the demolition in progress. The seats and flooring of the balcony were being removed while I was there. It’s so sad that a landmark of Scarborough’s seafront is gone. I have fond memories of the Futurist from seeing the Wizard of Oz film there with my younger brother as a child to one of Ken Dodd’s overrunning shows.
It's an absolute disgrace that this place was demolished. I remember seeing Thin Lizzy on their "Thunder and Lightening" tour in February 1983. So many brilliant memories.
Scarborough council are expert at knocking things down and either replacing with junk or just leave an empty space. They’ve added nothing to it over the years. Lots of people memories destroyed. Thank goodness for you tube.
Really sad that this lovely old theatre has now gone...great video thanks for posting! Nice insight into what was going on there behind the scenes! We lost our own Gaumont in 2009 here in Doncaster...so many acts like The Beatles and Buddy Holly played there too like the Futurist but history means nothing to some! I saw the Chuckle Brothers there and it was a great laugh...today as I write this we hear Barry Chuckle passed away....so sad too!
Fantastic Video, thank you for giving us one last look inside this amazing place. It's not right that they are knocking it down! As for the press making up a load of lies about your breaking in and stuff, don't let them defeat you, carry on uploading, your doing a fantastic job.
I used to come here every August to see the chuckle brothers as a child, I was so sad when it closed down, so interesting to see it like this, such a shame
The Chuckle Brothers moved their shows to Bridlington Royal Spa. I live in Bridlington but enjoyed going to the Futurist. It seems that North Yorkshire County Council would not subsidise the theatre with as much as they asked for. It is a sad loss to the town. One paper says it is to be rebuilt starting on April 1st 2020. I think it was just an April Fools’ joke though. Not sure.
I loved The Chuckle Brothers. They were once on a TV game show called 321 when they were a club act. They are all very old now. Don’t think it will work without Barry.
@@richardanderson5424 sadly I don't think it would be the same without Barry either. I have so many amazing childhood stories involving them and seeing them in Scarborough. My dad actually became quite familiar to them and we used to sometimes see them stepping out of the van outside of the theatre and would even help their crew unpack. A few times they even remembered us from a few months/to a year before from me meeting them and talking with them, so they would have a conversation with my dad. I regret not having the signed posters still! Such a shame about the theatre, will always remember it whenever I visit Scarborough now as an adult.
made me sad watching this , i have so many memories of going to see the summer season acts in the 70s with my mum and dad ,my brother and sister ,we would go to scarborough every year . we would also go and see the matinee films on in the afternoons-usually whichever carry on film was out that year -great times
can you message our page on fb, we're looking to film in there if you fancy going back with one of us? Not sure best way in. facebook.com/britainsdecays
You wont get in now..they have attracted the police and the council now security has been stepped up with cameras everywhere..you have no chance now. They have even made headlines..
That’s because we didn’t break in. The council and media just wanted to take any grievances away from them. We never break in places , so there was a way in.
Thanks never been inside Gf used to go with her parents an she has taken all her kids. As for the security officers obviously jacket fillers on minimum wage.

Going to this theatre every year to see the summer season show is what made me want to be a performer

Phil Banks thanks very much, and yeh they just made it up, probably because they couldn’t understand how we got in which means we must have broken in.
5:30 - Who's the joker? 😂
I remember having to be in the chair right behind that pillar once.
A sad loss to the town, have seen many shows and films there over the years. :'(

Good work - thanks for sharing! Surprised to see someone's put an effort to even strip the chairs off!? :-o
Thanks for this! Will miss this building, see it every time I get down to the seafront. Just such a shame it’s being knocked down
And now it’s completely demolished
This place is haunting…
I wish to god it could have been restored, looks like an awesome place to have been in…
Brought back some happy memories. Sad to see it go.

Breaking in? The place looks opened up, I don't see a crowbar in your hands. !!!!
