About the AFI Life Achievement Award:
The highest honor given for a career in film, the AFI Life Achievement Award was established by the AFI Board of Trustees in 1973. George Clooney will receive the 46th AFI Life Achievement Award, honoring the actor, director, writer and producer. TNT will premiere the hour-and-a-half special, THE 46TH AFI LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: A TRIBUTE TO GEORGE CLOONEY on Thursday, June 21, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, followed by an encore at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT. Sister network Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will also air the special in September 2018 during a night of programming dedicated to Clooney's work. This marks the sixth year the Emmy®-winning AFI special will air on Turner networks.

So if ANY one of those women got him you would also be saying ''HE married UP'' ------------ SHE married up.! Because now she is famous (when before she was totally unknown), and that ''fame'' gives power to ALL her charitable causes and other projects.

In G & A’s case though I think they’re both hugely successful and at the top of their game in their respective fields (entertainment / law) so have no comparison to each other otherthan their success. Their compassionate character to do good, give back and their loving personalities is their connecting force and because of it they’re both amazing, down to earth humble humans. Their parents must be very, very proud and rightly so. ♥️

What a wonderful speech by George Clooney. Paying tribute to his parents and his wife Amal. He has found his soul mate in Amal. Both of them are great humanitarians and human rights activists and use their wealth to support humanitarian causes and the needy and downtrodden. I absolutely admire this wonderful couple. May they have a long and happy marriage. ❤

George Clooney has shown himself to be a very capable actor, director, producer and by what I know, a very kind and generous person.
I have nothing against the man but do find it a bit odd to give him a AFI lifetime achievement award at this time when so many more deserving still haven't gotten theirs.
The AFI omissions list is pretty huge but to name a few that could accept it: Ben Kingsley, Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Jessica Lange, Christopher Plummer, Susan Sarandon, Gary Oldman, Glen Close,...
Also, I do not feel he's in the same ballpark as the names that came before him, or isn't there yet anyway.
I'd like to compare this to a Hall of Fame induction where a by all rights great player, now is included onto a list of legends.
Nice to see Denzel Washington will be next, absolutely deserving, what a powerhouse.

I’m puzzled as to why George Clooney was awarded an AFI. Yes, he is beloved in Hollywood and a behind-the-scenes power player, but none of his film roles are iconic. Think about past AFI recipients Jack Nicholson: Easy Rider, Cuckoo’s Nest, The Shining, As Good As It Gets, Terms of Endearment, Reds, A Few Good Men. Dustin Hoffman: The Graduate, Kramer vs. Kramer, Tootsie, Rainman. Clooney: Oceans 11, Michael Clayton. He plays himself in every role and none of his films will be remembered in 25 years, much less 50.

I don't know how he could even accept this in good honor? At least have the humility to say that you hope your best years are ahead of you, and that you would gladly accept it in the future. Even those in the same age range, Jodie Foster, Tom Cruise, Eddie Murphy have much more historical careers. C'mon, be honest - this guy has no films that warrant this high of an honor. Loved when George & his dad were in other countries trying to save other peoples lives, while putting theirs on the line! I lived in the TriState area of Ohio, Kentucky, & West Va. & watched Nick Clooney, who was a very popular, well-known, local television personality. It was always a treat, when his sister, the wonderful singer/actress, Rosemary Clooney, came to stay with the family for a visit. We also remember seeing George as a new teen actor,appearing on “Facts of Life”. He was so handsome! Loved watching as he grew as an actor & matured like Sean Connery, to be so admired. Wonderful ti see him find love with Amal & have the twins!🤗💕
