Yes, I know "Time Is on My Side" is a cover. Got it. I kinda already knew but tend to forget, and I misspoke on the video. But save your fingers, dear commenter. The memo has long since been received.

Bridges to Babylon and VooDoo Lounge have some great tracks. That being said, I understand having to pare things down. What we all have to remember in these type of rankings and comparisons is what our "Timeline" is. We all came in to fandom at different times, so people out there have fond memories, a backstory or strong connection to, say, Emotional rescue, or 12X5, or Some Girls vaulting those to the top of their personal lists.

Paul, you’re killing me, mate. This and The Bee Gees? Between the Buttons and 1st are my faves. I think coz it’s that space and time where the bands are still writing punchy tight melodic singles and before the drugs take hold and it becomes messier “jam band” ideas and songs about their drug dealers and such. The Who, Small Faces, Kinks…all the bands that started out with super tight classic singles and before became stadium rock epic tunes that fought against the single format. Like The Beatles. While I love Revolver and forward, I listen to HELP! The most. And A Hard Days Night. ;)

Yay! “Between The Buttons” is my favorite too! … “Emotional Rescue” has grown on me over the years - it was a pretty big letdown and disappointment for me when it came out in 1980, coming after “Some Girls”, and I sold my copy about 6 months later. But hearing it many years later as the old geezer that I’ve become, I’ve suddenly taken a liking to it, probably due to my own softening up, but I like the sort of bright, breezy, feeling that it has - I think that it’s a good summertime album, which is not what you generally associate with the Stones… But if “Flowers” were not a compilation album, it might be my top ranked Stones record - I’m with you, the Beatles-influenced period, starting with “Aftermath”, “Between The Buttons”, “Dandelion”, and ending with the “Jumping Jack Flash/Child Of The Moon” single, will always be my favorite Rolling Stones era… Great video!

I like the Brian Jones era just as good as the gold era 68 to 72 because the Stones were young raw and trying hard to get it right when they were getting it right because they were hungry for it ..Those old covers as so damn good ,nobody ever really covered those old blues songs any better than they did . When the Stones got to Satanic Majesties ,their young outgoing vibe changed and they just were weird older guys after that . I have a near mint MSFL vinyl of Some Girls I bought brand new and the album is good and sound quality is like a master tape sound but in comparison it is not as good as the UK Out of Our Heads album ..

Aside from some obvious factual errors, pretty good. Wouldn't hurt adding remainder since there isn't much: dirty work + steel wheels are good but definitely worse than undercover overall; voodoo lounge has a few keepers while bridges to babylon is mostly worthwhile. Don't like a bigger bang as much. Blue & lonesome is their nadir. Have to say between the buttons (first american, now the real version) is a favorite but #1 exile on main street, sticky fingers and uk aftermath remain their all-time best. Definitely not a huge fan of it's only rock 'n' roll whereas emotional rescue/black and blue have grown in stature over the decades. Enjoyed watching video nonetheless!

You can make an excellent Their Satanic Majesties' Request "fantasy album", the way I did. Yes, add Dandelion, and We Love you. We did 'edits' of Gomper and "...See What happens"...It really came out nice.....Your Aftermath idea was great...Or Split it to a "Could You Walk On the Water" and "Aftermath" separate 'albums'. How 'bout having Jumping Jack Flash as the 'opener'! for Beggars' banquet. Fun stuff. You Can't Always get What You want was the B-side to the Honky Tonk Women single. I really hope to get a sonic enhancement via the magic touch of some studio wizards for "Between The Buttons", their most "English sounding album". I am working on the notes, and have gathered many different versions of the tracks.

    • @AsItShouldBePodcast
      @AsItShouldBePodcast  2 года назад

All great ideas. Edits of See What Happens and Gomper is a really good idea. Not sure how much of See What Happens I'd want but it could at least be edited down to some sort of link track or something. Jumping Jack Flash as opener for Beggar's is a fun idea. I think if you did that then Sympathy would have to be a side closer. It's one of those tracks that has to be either an opener or closer. It wouldn't work anywhere in the middle. It would be interesting to hear Between the Buttons in higher fidelity but I really don't have a problem with the way it sounds. Probably just because I'm used to it.

Most of the Stones' albums after Tattoo You aren't very good, but VooDoo Lounge has some excellent tracks that kind of got lost in the shuffle ("Out of Tears", "Blinded by Rainbows", "Thru and Thru" plus few others). Emotional Rescue was such a disappointment after Some Girls. Beggar's Banquet would have been my #1 hands down ("Hand of Fate" is a great/best track on Black and Blue)

Beggars Banquet and Let it Bleed are my 1/2 albums. But if you're not into the blues then, yeah, Beggars Banquet may be a meh album for you. I have both the US and UK Aftermath and Between the Buttons versions on CD. I rank them as their best mid-sixties albums. I rank Some Girls higher than Black and Blue and Goat's Head Soup. I love individual songs on Black and Blue and Goat's Head Soup. Overall, though, not great albums. Exile on Main Street is great, but there are about 5 songs that don't measure up, at least in my opinion.
I mean really, everyone has their own opinion of which albums are better than others.

Don't get me wrong the sister albums OUT of our heads and December's Chiddrens, throw in Rolling Stones Now, classic Brian Jones era and nice to see in someone's mid section. True too about Goin home. You had good takes. Actually kinda think like me in many ways. I WAS speed watching. But based on each section allotment, then backing up, didn't see it. With all that said, the sound they laid on their final track to Hackney Diamonds, should fate catch up with them, was THEEEEE perfect way to close it down. Shoulda been a whole album of That king biscuit flower hour sound.

Great video. And I admire your bravery for putting Satanic Majesties ahead of Exile!!
Here is my top ten list: (for albums up to Undercover)
    10. Goat's Head Soup (probably the weakest album from the Mick Taylor era.....but that's more of a compliment to the other albums than it is an insult to GHS.)
    9. Black and Blue (very different Stones album.....reggae is not their forte......but Hand of Fate, Melody and especially Memory Motel more than make up for the lesser tracks.)
    8. Between the Buttons (Swinging Sixties Stones-style.)
    7. Aftermath (The late, great Brian Jones has his fingerprints everywhere......and he makes the Jagger-Richards material even stronger.)
    6. Tattoo You (Incredible how they put together such a strong effort from stuff they had in the can for all those years.)
    5. Beggar's Banquet (As willfully sympathetic to the devil as only the Rolling Stones can be.)
    4. Let it Bleed (Not flawless.....Country Honk is weak and Midnight Rambler sounds so much better live......but still a gem.)
    3. Sticky Fingers (Opening cut Brown Sugar sounds like the start of a great party and closer Moonlight Mile sounds like the perfect nightcap to finish the evening.)
    2. Some Girls (Lots of great songs about Love and Hope and Sex and Dreams......and a killer title track.)
    1. Exile on Main Street (Like the White Album and Physical Graffiti, Exile is a double album that basically is a textbook of Rock and Roll 101.)

Goin Home stinks. Aftermath would be so much better with little helper and out of time. Their satanic majesties, too, with out sing this all together. I’d keep gomper on but dump on with the show for some of the other psych songs they did

I go up to "Steel Wheels" as the last good Stones album (although "Dirty Work" is horrible.) IMO the last great Stones album is "Some Girls." My own ranking is like most people's, and pretty simple. They get better and better up to Sticky Fingers, then fall off .....a bell curve that ends at Some Girls (or to be generous, Tattoo You.) And just by the way....every Stones fan needs to hear the recording that goes under names like Bedspring Symphony, Brussels Affair or Europe 73. It's the Stones at their absolute peak as a live act; Mick Taylor is on fire! ruclips.net/video/v_x9pojuZaY/видео.html
