  • Buy the Parrot AR Drone Flight Recorder on Amazon - goo.gl/Vcttj (affiliate link). The free software QGroundcontrol brings completely autonomous flight to the Parrot AR Drone 2.0 equipped with the GPS Flight Recorder Add-On. Simply set your waypoints, upload them to the drone, and it will then follow that flight pattern even if it flies out of range of your computer. Amazing!

I just wanted to let you know, the reason the drone was stopping short of your waypoints is because you did not adjust how strict qgroundcontrol would be. on each of your waypoints, on the right hand side near elevation, you will see a column that each waypoint says "10 M" that is indicating that as long as the drone comes within 10 meters (over 30 feet) of the waypoint that it can move to the next. set it for 2 meters or less and it will be pretty spot on

Ar. Drone uses Ultra Sound (Sonar) below six meters above sea level, above 6 meters it uses the pressure sensor built into the motherboard.
If you are using the latest version of software AR. Drone, ie 2.4.7, I have found myself unexpectedly altitude variations.
Good video explanation of this feature.

Nice Demo Lon, I've been using QGC for a while with the Ardrone & having a great time with it. The usefulness & capability of the Ardrone has gone way up now with the gps flight recorder & QGC.

Lon, if you're interested in getting quicker charges, you can find videos around RUclips of how to take the stock charger apart. Inside it is just a standard balance plug, so you can easily plug that into ANY hobby grade charger, then charge using that charger. I've been doing just that with my AR.Drone 2.0 batteries, and it charges them faster and balances them better. You can also get balance boards on Amazon or Ebay that you can use to charge the batteries, as well.

I got the Bastens 1300mah lipo battery and quick charger kit along with one extra battery. It doesn't take up any more space than the standard battery and gives noticably improved flight times upwards of 15 minutes depending on how aggressively you fly. And the charge time is nearly double the speed of the standard parrot battery.

I have an iPhone 5 with internet teathering enabled so what I would do in my case would be to use the iPhone's internet teather to the laptop so I don't have to worry about caching the maps before hand. Alternatively you could also get Cellphone internet USB dongles from your provider as well. I think he did say it should be able to cache the maps so you may just be missing / not finding the option for it.

btw I recently discovered the bastens battery is really just a $6 Zippy Flightmax battery with the connector changed to an AR drone version and their label over the Zippy label. You can get the battery from Hobby king. btw i got the AR Drone Power edition it comes with two 1500mah batteries and on two test flights I got 13 mins on one flight doing many flips and had bit over 10% left after landing and I did a 15 minute flight with 8% remaining. Pretty good.

    Hi,
I do not know if he(it) is less precise, as a rule(in principle) it is an addition by report(relationship) has the first generation to increase the stability during flight above 6 meters.
The measure of the US is vertically made, it is likely that the detour(deviation) of ultra sound by the slope of the roof is the cause of her(it) almost collision.

That's right , that is the height above ground. Besides, I still do not understand why I wrote " sea level " instead of " from the ground ."

I usually fly 30-40m up, early on I was having issues with early landings when flying around at lower altitudes. Not sure if that was related to the loss of some satellite signals flying low or what (we live in a fairly hilly area).

This does seem really cool. My problem is that I don't like the idea of nearly £400 flying around over head, without my control.
Say I programmed the drone for a flight in London - which goes well. Then I went to Oxford and gave it a new flight plan. But it doesn't upload for whatever reason. The model is going to head for it's first waypoint in London, isn't it? (it won't get there, but is likely to get far enough away that I lose it!) So is there any way to prevent this scenario?

  • @Ben7seven7
    @Ben7seven7 11 лет назад

That sux, I broke my cross member last year also, havn't got around to fixing it, but I will be doing it maybe over the week and videoing the process for other's to reference. Also I see Parrot came out with their own 1500mah battery, I think they say it will give you up to 16 minutes of flight time but it's $60 and takes quite a long time to charge. I may get it though anyway for the sake of having a slightly longer lasting OEM battery.

Hi, I have one question: provided the drone works without Wifi, would it be possible to make it fly exceptionally high OR out of range, say down an airport runway (6000ft) and back to the home point? Also, would it be possible to fly it very high then? The drone could come home utilizing its GPS, pressure sensor and ultrasound (as soon as it's below 18ft) - thus it would be possible to fly it higher than 1500ft?
Please answer. If you have a wide open field, maybe you want to try out? I am thinking about buying the Flight Recorder but if it only works within Wifi range it's worthless for me.

***** Hi Lon... Well... I took my AR Drone 2.0 and Flight Recorder out for a test flight this weekend. The first problem I had was getting my laptop screen to a resolution and brightness that I could actually see the application on the screen. Finally got it to a point that was, at lease usable. Then the next challenge was plotting the waypoints. I thought that I had plotted a fairly conservative path but that turned out to be totally incorrect. I hit 'launch' and off she went. I tried to keep an eye on the drone and one on the computer but failed that multitasking task miserably. When I lost sight of my drone, I hit the emergency landing option and hoped that I was still within signal range. I don't know if I was because the drone crashed into the top of a tree. I searched for about 1/2 an hour, looking for the drone, using the GPS image on the laptop as a reference to try and locate the drone. I didn't know she had crashed into the top of a tree until an onlooker told me to look in the trees.
Soooo... here are a few ?s for you that I hope you can help me with.
      1) how accurate is the GPS location on the computer to actual location of the drone?
      2) How can I be certain that the flight I am flying is not a flight of prior waypoints. I ask that because it appears that the drone was actually on a flight path to go back to my home, which was the first set of waypoints that I ever plotted and uploaded into the flight recorder but never executed.
      3) How do I replay the actual flight of the drone and see the flight path that it flew. I have seen these demonstrations on several RUclips videos but have not figured out how to execute this option.
      4) My flight recorder came with a USB port for added storage, rather than the slot for a micro-card. I have installed a very small and short 16GB USB drive in that port so it is small enough to actually allow the hull cover to be installed.
Finally) After the crash I flew my drone using my iPad. However the tilt options are now reversed. By that I mean, when I tilt my iPad forward, the drone flies in reverse/backward and when I tilt the iPad to the right, the drone flies left and when I tile the iPad to the left, the drone flies right. Any thoughts on how to take care of this and correct the orientation?
Your thoughts are much appreciated. Very Respectfully Ret USAF 820th CES RED Horse, REALTOR®
