Thank you so so so much for posting this video. After reading 5+ articles I couldn’t find a straightforward solution to my need of synchronized tables. This video helped me build a seamless scrolling on two tables for a model performance report. THANK YOU for posting! 🎉

Calc Logic for the Lazy - Customer Index : Index() Customer Scroll Bar: This is a parameter, check out Dynamic Parameters in 2020.1, to see if this can be extended. Show Customer Calc : [Customer Index] >= [Customer Scroll Bar] AND [Customer Index]
Your method is very ingenious, very clever. But I'm trying to apply it to a table with grand totals, and the INDEX() function apparently increments the grand totals indices independently from the remaining lines. This breaks the method, because, for example, grand total index 5 is between indices 99 and 100. Do you have a solution to this problem? Thanks!
hi, is there a way to make the scroll automatedly? Background: I have a table dashboard that is published on the tableau server, then shows as a google chrome webpage on a large monitor, my users want to be able to see the whole table (about a few hundreds rows), if scrolling to the end then automatedly start from the beginning and loop. Is this achievable?
This is great but I have a scrollable dashboard and I want to fix the container having all the legends and the filters, so that its visible to user even when he/she scrolls down to other charts on dashboard. Is there a way for that??
This was very helpful, but...When you enable 'Show empty rows' the scroll bar returns to the worksheet. Is there a way to remove the scroll bars and still show empty rows?
Sorry, but I haven't figure out how to do that yet. If you have different measures in your columns, I might suggest creating a chart that allows you to drill down into other charts. I would really look for different ways to present the data if you have so many columnns you need horizontal scroll. (I would say the same thing about vertical scroll, but sometimes the client wants what they want.)
Great technique. Since index only corresponds to position (row number) in the table, it is not intuitively related to any of the lines of data. If one wanted to scroll to a specific name in the table, how would one do this? How could you link the name you are searching for to the corresponding row index number? Parameter action? LOD? I'm trying to accomplish this with a RANKED table which has a similar numbering scheme. Thanks in advance.
I would want to understand why you are trying to do what you are suggesting rather than filtering on a specific name. I am assuming the names will be dynamic (new ones being added), so tying to a specific number (in Tableau) would be tough. (Sorry for the late reply and lack of a solution.)
@@TableauWeston In a long table of Customers, I could filter to a specific customer, but then I would lose all of the other customers in the table. If I wanted to see the selected customer in his/her relative position to other customers (remember, I am using Rank) then I could create a filter on Rank to help me scroll. However with a long list of names, I'd have to manually scroll to find the name. Rather than scroll by a number (Rank or Index table calc) i'd like to have the user be able to scroll (using the assigned #) to the name the user selects. Is that clear? Thanks for responding!!
@@jeffpike1607 that helps. Let me think about it some more. There may be a solution, using parameters in the filter and setting value dashboard action. Let me think about it some more.
@@jeffpike1607 I figured out how to do what you want. It involves the FIRST function and sets on the customer name. I am planning on putting together a video, but it might not be until this weekend.
Hmmm I don't think my scroll bar disappears when I bring worksheets to the dashboard? And what if there are totals, how do you apply that totals also follow this logic? THank you!
If the scroll bar doesn't disappear, then two things could be happening. 1) You aren't filtering the worksheet so it is only showing the customer index + XXX number of rows (hence all are showing). 2) You dashboard is too short/narrow so even the filtered rows are too long. I believe the totals will show up at the end of the scrolling, but you'll need to double check since I don't know if they would end up with an index value.
Under the Analysis menu, select Totals, then "Add All Sub-totals". You will then need to right click the dimension (blue bill) to unselect the sub-totals you don't want.
i am getting an issue on my dashboard. i created a new worksheet and drop it to the dashboard and now one of my old tables is blank. can u suggest me how to fix it. Thanks in advance......
That certainly becomes more difficult. You may need to a formula to calculate the total number of records and another formula to calculate the amount of scrolling.
Yes I also have the same question weston..this works when u have an idea of the fxd no of records..I can use the concept of pagination in tableau..but I cannot pass that filter to any other sheet as that is an index based calc which is basically a table calc and hence unavailable to other sheets.. Could u please reply with the additional formula that u r referring to...??
If my list contains, for instance,100 rows and they cant be shown the display at ones obviously and I want the list to auto-scroll from top to bottom and vice-versa,so is it possible in tableau,or any other possibility to do so?
@@TableauWeston thanks alot for response,I mean to say if I have a list of 1000 rows, obviously it cant be shown ones at a moment, It should be scrolled down and down till bottom to show all data, now I want to make that scrolling process auto matic, without me touching the mouse,I did that using mouse recording software, but the scrolling is not smooth, though I succeeded in my desired scrolling for hours. My second question is,is there any way to exporty animated tableau data in an hd video format, apart from screen capture😬

I'm not aware of any way to synchronize any scrolling across multiple visuals. Admittedly, this was a work around and a bit clunky.
