In Canada, most states in the US, and most countries in the EU, diamonds and zircons by law must have registration as to what they are. For diamonds, or any type of stone and or jewelry, the buyer can ask for signed traceable certification. Proper certification must also include the rating specifications for what they have if and when applicable. The certification can also include the value at the time of purchase. To insure a diamond or any jewelry a signed and registered certification is required. The insurance company would require a copy.

Diamonds are mostly about Glitter and Greed in general with the exception of heirlooms or a lucky find on a beach. Instead of wasting time and effort on "is it real?," women should study "Conflict Diamonds, I.e. blood diamonds,.war diamonds, etc." and go for the CZ. A tester is cheap and some distinguish between moissanite and diamonds. Amazing how something with no color, a huge price tag and often mined under tragic situations is so important to our materialistic society here in the US. Sadly, the Kimberley Process has done little to insure diamonds are exempt from the blood spill by evil cartels and DeBeers themself, especially in Rwanda and DOR Congo.
Actually European assholes have been exploiting Africa's natural resources for a hundreds of years, so I have no clue what you mean by indicating that diamonds that are heirlooms are ok? So people that buy diamonds in recent years are evil materialistic assholes who support the practices involved in mining blood diamonds? Or maybe people that buy diamonds now would like to create heirlooms to pass onto their children.
jnopkmg Not what I meant at all. A passed down heirloom is not sought after and purchased by the person or people who attain it. I had diamonds passed down to me from several generations back. My great grandmother would have been shocked at the process those diamonds were most likely mined but I know she had no clue. Education is key so that future generations know and understand the cruelty involved. I don't wear diamonds, heirloom or other. Same with the mink coat I inherited from my Aunt.
Why would you pay thousands for a tiny mined carbon crystal as jewelry, A lab stone is better than natural stone anyway. Lab diamond will probably replace silicon as a semi-conductor, Take watch face crystals. Most watches that cost more than a 150 euro have sapphire face crystals, not glass or plastic.
I am former goldsmith an I've seen those things about half a million pieces. The real diamond's facets are perfectly straight because of hardness of the material. Fake diamond's facets are little bit curved. There are of course another differences, too, but there are difficult to describe.
How about checking the refraction and isometric nature of the crystal system by popping it out of the setting and doing some basic visual optics with a single point source light.
a nice inclusion in the diamond will cause the stress of cutting glass to complete the fracture. think of it like how a tea glass is pretty solid , but a cracked tea glass breaks far easier. diamonds that are natural are microscopically cracked . cz and lab diamonds are free of the defects. so yes diamond can cut glass. but like the jewler here said , DONT DO IT
Step 4 is false because there are different levels of clarity in diamond. Si which stands for slightly included means that if you look close it has visible slight imperfections
Yeah, diamond really is not a rare substance. In fact diamond dealers have at some points agreed in unison to destroy stashed of diamond to make it more scarce and increase their profits. The only reason people are still crazy about diamonds is because of old cultural noms, i.e: you need one to propose for marriage. but in reality the only good and actual use for diamonds is in construction. Diamond is the hardest substance on earth (perhaps the universe) so it is very good at cutting stuff.
people don't buy diamonds because diamonds are hard to scratch, they buy them because of cultural norms and standards. after all sapphire is almost as scratch resistant as diamond
That was cool! So, it looks that the true value of a relationship is based on a piece of shinny dirt? Sounds to me that shinny shit has more value than honesty and respect now days! Now . . ., is there any test that can reveal if the woman you are giving a stone worth it, or is just a piece of shinny stinking shit?
If its out of the setting - go for visual optics. You can use this method for colored stones as well - it will tell you approximate refraction, chemical signatures in colored stones, cubic vs other systems and a host of other things, all with the naked eye, a pair of tweezers and a point source light.
And guys, if your woman starts doing any of this, it shows she cares more about money than you, and you just made a big mistake buying a ditch pig a ring. Sincerely, a happily married man.
interesting...im struggling with my boyfriend. he wants to buy something expensive, I want a ring that cost $100. its an extremely beautiful solitaire, in a gorgeous silver (925) setting. the CZ LOOKS so real, I'm so in love with this ring. I already bought it.. don't know how I'm gonna break this to him. He thinks we're spending $13,000. Were not....I already bought the ring of my dreams....for $100. Trust me for that price ONE would think its the most hideous ugly CZ ever, SHOCKINGLY its so gorgeous...and shines just like the real thing in the sun. can't believe this. I want our money to go somewhere better than to a ring that I'll be scared to wear in public or loose. too much money ,not worth it. He doesn't understand my views on this.
Garden Glory, Most people are not going to scope your ring to check the authenticity. So, if you like the ring, you should go for it. Your boyfriend should consider himself lucky.
If its really this hard to tell if its a real diamond, why does it matter? You can get a ring that looks real and last for $50 from berricle jewelers. Why spend so much?
The ring thing is misunderstood. For many in different cultures men would get a dowry from the family of the daughter to insure that the marriage would have a certain value or wealth attached that would benefit the new husband, as well as his bride. So I know I've been told that ring is a symbol of the never ending love similar to an Infiniti symbol. My experience is that Americans say it's about love and for some that is true, I do think it is a combination of things like the rings value determine the seriousness of the arrangement. Or it's a status symbol, or I think is it is an asset that can be liquidated if necessary. I would pawn my ring if I knew it would help me and my family that doesn't mean I'm not fully engaged in the marriage or commitment.
Buy a diamond tester on ebay & test all your diamonds at home. If you don't know how a diamond tester works, google it on the internet there are probably videos & Instructions on how to use one. CZ's also scratch glass so that's not a valid test.
The easiest way to check you have a real diamond is to go into any jewellery shop and ask if they would test your ring. A real diamond scores much higher on the Mohs scale than a fake. Another way is to check the assay hallmark ( this is from the Assay office certificate and stamp to say which kind of metal it is and the purity of it) on the band. For example it will tell you if the band is gold, platinum, silver or plated. Real diamonds are rarely set in precious metal. Usually it will be silver or plated. Occasionally a fake is set in gold but it will be the lowest gold purity.
Why would real diamonds rarely be set in precious metal? Diamonds are mostly set in wedding/engagement rings which are usually never sterling silver lmao
Jordan Ginn Sorry I should have written the real diamonds are usually set in precious metal such as gold or platinum, rarely if ever set in silver or plated metals. I hadn't noticed my error until you pointed it out. Thank you for pointing it out ;D
dannggggg, boy, you get out this relationship! She doesn't love you enough to the point she trusts you, Or even is able to look past the possibility you didn't get her a Real diamond! Dude, that rock looks sick, she should be so happy! Man, you got yourself a gold digger up in your wallet, hiding in your closet checking rings, and man, I seen her with a real diamond eyepiece thing, you know? That tiny telescope looking thin. Man, she looking to rob a rich man. You best start running cause she hunting money. (lol)
lordofduct That's what I did. Bought my wife a $325 engagement ring at a pawn shop (with a guaranty and warranty). Took it to a trusted appraiser and it came back being worth $1800. Score!
@Yuanci The video does not say to scratch the ring with the glass. And besides, gold is denser than glass, and will not be damaged by scratching it with glass, or the other way around. This video is missleading, Diamond cannot be damaged by anything other than diamond.
So... If you watched this video and have decided to go to these measures to check if it is real or fake, then maybe you have an issue. Unless the outcome doesn't change the way you feel about it and it's plain curiosity. In other words paying stupid amounts of money to get that ring she wanted is like saying 'will you marry me? By the way I'm in debt.' I asked my girlfriend of she liked CZ which she does so now I can get her dream ring for a price I can actually afford.
Christopher Jenkins I know this is a bit late but get a 'WISH' APP & buy jewelry there. It cuts the middle man stuff out. Real stones & really good workmanship. Downside is it takes awhile to ship to you,,,,not like walking in & out of a store,,, but it IS worth it.
So if there are defects and fractures I should be happy as I have a real diamond? Personally I'd rather have a defect-free, conflict-free, larger, alternative gemstone for the same price.
further to this, the problem is people don't understand what brittle means. It doesn't necessarily mean easy to break, it means if you apply enough force it will break into separate pieces rather than bend or distort. Brittle as opposed to malleable which makes no reference to the force required to achieve either.
Yep. That's exactly the same difference between standard sockets and impact sockets. Most people wrongly assume that the impact sockets are stronger because they are made not to shatter. But they are weaker metal.
I feel sorry for this girl's fiancee...if she is going through all this trouble to find out if the rind is a fake-boy, he is marrying one materialistic bitch!
A sure fire way to find out if it is diamond is to put it into your oven at around 500 degrees for half an hour. If it is still there when you take it out, it is a fake. If there is a black powder there, then you know he loved you.
You did get one thing right: Diamonds do have significantly higher thermal conductivity than CZ. So if you buy it for the sake of transferring heat, a diamond would be better, per carat, than CZ. Per dollar CZ would of course outperform diamond also in this respect - but both would be absolutely crushed by a far cheaper and better heat conductor - copper. Or Gold - which is why the engine bay of McLaren F1 is lined with gold, out of sight and all. :D
Misleading video, just because a diamond doesn't show impurity, it doesn't mean that it's fake, it could be a synthetic diamond. Synthetic diamonds are real diamonds. It's just so pure that you don't see the impurities. What makes a diamond diamond is that their carbon atoms tetrahedrally bonded together in a covalent network lattice (check wikipedia). I personally encourage the use of synthetic diamonds because they don't involve any violence in the making.
And if you think diamond prices are set to rise and buy diamonds as an investment, I'd say go with that. If however you want a ring or other ornament that shines and sparkles, don't waste your money on diamonds when simulants that cost a fraction as much are clearly so good that even experienced collectors recommend using equipment to tell them apart from what they simulate.
Look at the Girdle. (The Edge) Look at the edge with your Jeweler's Loupe. Is the Girdle Faceted? Most manufactures of CZ's do not take the time to facet the Girdle as they are production oriented. If the Girdle looks like Ground Glass...YOU LOSE. On the other hand if the Girdle is faceted that is a good indicator of authenticity. Of course you can just allow a professional to authenticate your stone. Any Pawn Shop has a Thermal Conductivity Diamond Tester. Most Jewelry Stores do. They will be able to tell you and...without a Financial Cost. Diamond Testers cost about $50 if you want to purchase one online. However there is a new material with the same Thermal Conductivity...Moissanite. (Your fog test will also work on Moissanite and give you a False Positive.) The Diamond Tester will give a False Positive on Moissanite.. However Diamond is Singly Refractive while Moissanite is Doubly Refractive. Hmmm...Optical Properties??? Use your Polariscope. With crossed filters place the stone on the bottom Filter. Rotate the Stone. If it is a Diamond you will not be able to see the stone no matter what the orientation. However Moissanite will flash on and off as it is being rotated under crossed filters. Polariscopes run about $300. The best way is to go your Jeweler. I have been doing this for a Quarter Century...
cutting with diamond is different from striking it with a sudden force.. if you can put in the force to distort the lattice it will break instead of bend. It is hard, but brittle. Look at lets say gold, which is soft but malleable, if you strike it, it will bend... though of course if you apply force in a very particular place you can shear (or pierce) it... diamond however will do neither, it will chip or shatter. It is brittle. It does withstand a pretty good impact though
I found about a 3ct potential diamond earlier and tested it with these methods, it passed every one of the trusted methods, I'm hoping it is real. it's already been cut and is absolutely gorgeous.
The thermal test is by far the most accurate. Diamonds have a higher thermal conductivity than copper, you could melt through ice just by holding it in your fingers, in a normal temp room. Fog it up!
step1) go to your nearest jewellery shop step2) give to them and get checked its fake or not step3) say thank you to them step4) have a nice a cup of Tea.
The scratch test illustrated here is not 100% reliable, since there are a number of colourless gemstones other than diamond, that will also scratch glass.
Diamond is the hardest metal of all time. The research is as follows. Pocket-protected scientists built a wall of iron and crashed a diamond car into it at 400 miles per hour, and the car was unharmed. They then built a wall out of diamond and crashed a car made of iron moving at 400 miles an hour into the wall, and the wall came out fine. They then crashed a diamond car made of 400 miles per hour into a wall, and there were no survivors. They crashed 400 miles per hour into a diamond traveling at iron car. Western New York was powerless for hours. They rammed a wall of metal into a 400 mile per hour made of diamond, and the resulting explosion shifted the earth's orbit 400 million miles away from the sun, saving the earth from a meteor the size of a small Washington suburb that was hurtling towards mid-western Prussia at 400 billion miles per hour. They shot a diamond made of iron at a car moving at 400 walls per hour, and as a result caused two wayward airplanes to lose track of their bearings, and make a fatal crash with two buildings in downtown New York. They spun 400 miles at diamond into iron per wall. The results were inconclusive. Finally, they placed 400 diamonds per hour in front of a car made of wall traveling at miles per iron, and the result proved without a doubt that diamonds were the hardest metal of all time, if not just the hardest metal known to man.
"Diamond is the hardest metal of all time" So many things wrong with this simple statement, that I'm not even going to read the rest. If you can't get the basics right, the rest is crap. First, Diamond isn't a metal, second there are a few man-made and natural occurring substances are now harder than diamond.
that may be true for some women, yes. but i have been with my boyfriend for over 2 years going on three, and he just got a job about 2-3 months ago. for the whole time before that he was out of work (but looking and doing temp work). he was broke as hell all the time. so be careful not to generalize too much.
hard yes, but also brittle. Brittle refers to the fact it will break into pieces rather than bend... brittle as opposed to malleable... it does not refer to the force required to break it.

A diamond can be fake, but the love has to be real...and you don't test for that with a magnifying glass.

how to see if your husband is a lying cheapskate**
How about checking the refraction and isometric nature of the crystal system by popping it out of the setting and doing some basic visual optics with a single point source light.
you cannot damage a diamond by scratching it on glass...its called the mohs scale!
Dude diamond isn't invincible nothing is even a feather touching the diamond will do a very minute amount of damage
Lol, no. A feather will not damage a diamond.
a nice inclusion in the diamond will cause the stress of cutting glass to complete the fracture. think of it like how a tea glass is pretty solid , but a cracked tea glass breaks far easier. diamonds that are natural are microscopically cracked . cz and lab diamonds are free of the defects. so yes diamond can cut glass. but like the jewler here said , DONT DO IT
saobz.jwjbs☺☺
If there is a flaw near the edge of the diamond, it can crack.
***** almost any other stone wears and tears way less than a person youll be dead before flourite looks ugly
the most important thing about man made diamonds is electronics ,you make it for the job it can do ,not for what it looks like .
***** but its still a diamond.
***** i can crack a diamond as fast as i can crack glass .hardness means brittle ,just like a sword
If you bought a real diamond you will examine it, but if you know you bought fake, surely you will not.
Where's the equality?
That was cool! So, it looks that the true value of a relationship
is based on a piece of shinny dirt? Sounds
to me that shinny shit has more value than honesty and respect now days! Now .
. ., is there any test that can reveal if the woman you are giving a stone
worth it, or is just a piece of shinny stinking shit?
Bona Fide .
You sum it all up 😂👍
If its out of the setting - go for visual optics.
Ditch pig, that is real class

Garden Glory, Most people are not going to scope your ring to check the authenticity. So, if you like the ring, you should go for it. Your boyfriend should consider himself lucky.
after reading comments i must say aussies have worlds best sense of humour.
If its really this hard to tell if its a real diamond, why does it matter? You can get a ring that looks real and last for $50 from berricle jewelers. Why spend so much?
Because diamonds are forever ;)
You're a fine woman.
Buddie21341255612351 Virginity is not!
Abby Normy You are like : no sex before marriage !?????
Buddie21341255612351 ~ So is a divorce !
And now you have to take it to the jeweler to get it mounted again. Hopefully you didn't completely ruin your metal.
*when u find a real diamond for $30* oh my god I knew it
The ring thing is misunderstood.
First world problems...
"The engagement ring of your dreams." A simple white gold band :D
I got my girlfriend some new mittens for valentines, she was waiting for me to say I was joking and pull out the real present. She's still waiting.
Buy a diamond tester on ebay & test all your diamonds at home. If you don't know how a diamond tester works, google it on the internet there are probably videos & Instructions on how to use one. CZ's also scratch glass so that's not a valid test.
So how many of you women have those tools to check to see if diamonds are real or fake?
Easy way to tell, make a line on the stone with a felt tipped pen. On a diamond the line will be solid, on a CZ the ink will pool into tiny puddles.
If you are a bad husband like I was no diamond is good enough.
@Yuanci The test isn't to find if the gold is real. It's a diamond test.
Whew! That diamond is real, which means so is his love.
Lol if he gave you a fake diamond he would still love you also you proved that you don't trust him
+Time Wasters yerp
muzio78 lol!
Thank you for pointing it out ;D
you have to cheek the age as many early pieces (>victorian) were silver set with diamonds
dannggggg, boy, you get out this relationship! (lol)
or maybe she was just concerned about the 'unreal' deal her fiance got and wanted to make sure he didnt get ripped off.
Andi Bobellan then get it checked by an appraiser or jeweler.
lordofduct
That's what I did.
Bought my wife a $325 engagement ring at a pawn shop (with a guaranty and warranty). Took it to a trusted appraiser and it came back being worth $1800. Score!

how its made pizza
I don't even like diamonds that much - there are other gems that are much more beautiful than diamonds. Diamonds are quite boring if you ask me.
If its shiny, expensive, & impractical, you can be sure women will like it.
@Yuanci The video does not say to scratch the ring with the glass. And besides, gold is denser than glass, and will not be damaged by scratching it with glass, or the other way around. This video is missleading, Diamond cannot be damaged by anything other than diamond.
If you have to question whether your significant other purchased a real or fake diamond...perhaps you need to re-evaluate your partner.
Just sayin'.
what about a GIA cert? Isnt that enough to put your mind at rest that it is a real diamond that hasnt been fudged in anyway?
Christopher Jenkins 3.26 whit colus Rs..
Charles & Colvard lost their patent, so Moissanite is now very affordable. Much prettier, more durable stone than CZ too.
Personally I'd rather have a defect-free, conflict-free, larger, alternative gemstone for the same price.
the wost form of prostitution there is.
That transparency test only works on a properly cut, brilliant, round.
How to tell if your husband is a sugar daddy or if your mother was right about not marrying him.
further to this, the problem is people don't understand what brittle means. It doesn't necessarily mean easy to break, it means if you apply enough force it will break into separate pieces rather than bend or distort. Brittle as opposed to malleable which makes no reference to the force required to achieve either.
Wow... Next "How to tell if you're husband/BF is watching porn"
Just know that we always do lol
Thanks for the tips on seeing a real diamond . What about other gem stones.
Nice, the moneydigger channel
Yep. That's exactly the same difference between standard sockets and impact sockets. Most people wrongly assume that the impact sockets are stronger because they are made not to shatter. But they are weaker metal.
Wow, this retaliation ship NEEDS to end... If someone gave me a rock i wouldn't care XD
Natascha Loeb marry me. jkjk haha
Do you have a rock ring?
:P
+L.P.S Foxy I have 1
OMG ILL MARI U
WOW i did not know everyone has those supplies!!! -_-
Can you please tell how to check a rough diamond gemstone that would be a great help.Thankyou
the expression on the bitch's face at the end killed me :D
Now she is going to sneak into his phone to check his text messages LOL!
Oh geez, these comments
What happens if you use a small lasar beam (the kind that cat's chase around the living room for example) through a diamond???
How to get rid of an unwanted bride:
- Buy her a fake diamond.
- Show her this vídeo.
- Thank me later.

lmfao
ooh shes so happy she got a diamond ,love is in the air!!!haha
pfff I'd just check to make sure no one ripped off my husband!
(Your fog test will also work on Moissanite and give you a False Positive.)
The Diamond Tester will give a False Positive on Moissanite..
"Real diamonds disperse heat instantaneously"
I lol'd.
LOL all these ladies on here skeptical and paranoid that they got a fake daimond...Just ask to see the certification (GIA, AGS, EGL) and relax.
cutting with diamond is different from striking it with a sudden force.. if you can put in the force to distort the lattice it will break instead of bend.
Diamonds have a higher thermal conductivity than copper,
you could melt through ice just by holding it in your
fingers, in a normal temp room. Fog it up!
step1) go to your nearest jewellery shop
step2) give to them and get checked its fake or not
step3) say thank you to them
step4) have a nice a cup of Tea.
That means you will never know if other people wearing fake dimonds as long as you can't pull someone home just to test his own dimond! LOL 😂
The scratch test illustrated here is not 100% reliable, since there are a number of colourless gemstones other than diamond, that will also scratch glass.
I just put this on the Part 2 they jump from 5 (Hope Diamond) mentioned at the end here then on Part 2 starts with number 3????
hard things are always brittle... one of the biggest problems with diamond is you pay a fortune and it can still be chipped or shattered
I found a 14 karat gold ring with a 3 carat diamond in it While metal detecting.
you wont damage your diamond if you scrape it across glass,if you could why not just buy glass?
Oh yeah? Read the entire paragraph and be proven wrong
Nestle Vitali no diamonds are only carbon... no metal there
Did a meathead write this comment? Can anyone understand any of that or am I just THAT tired? P.s... Diamonds are NOT metal.
Mechanical Addict This is the best comment I've read on RUclips all year. 😂
that may be true for some women, yes. but i have been with my boyfriend for over 2 years going on three, and he just got a job about 2-3 months ago. for the whole time before that he was out of work (but looking and doing temp work). he was broke as hell all the time. so be careful not to generalize too much.
hard yes, but also brittle. Brittle refers to the fact it will break into pieces rather than bend... brittle as opposed to malleable... it does not refer to the force required to break it.
If i could afford an diamond rings, i think i could afford a little more for help to know if its fake or not.
