Limit breaks and summons do not carry over from battle to battle. Use em or lose em!
Wade Love limit breaks do carry over.
@@andreseh87 but if the bar has been filled you had to use it because the next fight it reset
That is some good advice! I remember the first time I noticed this and I thought I saved my Limit Break for something more important, but nope I just lost the chance to use it
Thanks this was helpful
Just picked up the game after trying to wait for pt 2 so I could play back to back. Got tired of waiting.
Tapping the touch pad in battle will bring up the assess info you collected already. So you don’t need to remember the information or keep assessing them.
Glad I scrolled down on the comments to find this. Thank you.
Omg great tip
this is great, often I think whether I have assessed enemy or not
Thank you I never knew this
Thank you!
Tip: If you can hold square during a cut scene for “menu”, it will not interrupt the cut scene, It will bring up the menu/equipment screen after the scene is done just before the next battle.
The most useful thing I have encountered.
I found that out at the shinra building after the rufus vs cloud fight never noticed in earlier scenes though
I found that out too but I was afraid that it would end the cutscene! Good to know!
@@clintbrew This is only for cut scenes with a fight directly after it. That's probably why
Is this so you can prep before being thrown headfirst into a massive bossfight? I don't understand...
A simple tip, though one that'll save you a *lot* of time in the long run: If you want to save the game, just press Options > Triangle - It'll take you directly to the save menu!
This is a really weird one. When I go to save by pressing triangle it loads my save files very quickly but when I do it the long way, it even takes longer to load!
@@mentalpopcorn2304I haven't noticed that, only that it generally takes quite a while to save the game... gonna check it out later though!
@@mentalpopcorn2304 I think you're right, pretttyyy sure I noticed that too. It's definitely some kinda "quicksave" option, but as far as loads I haven't paid much attention, and the game loads remarkably fast on my Pro.
Personal Persona same. Can’t even read the first sentence of the tips on the loading screens.
here's a tips: when you press ▲ to change into punisher mode, that animation has auto-block..so you can parry blockable incoming attack immediately rather than pressing R1 (block button).
I LOVE YOU. I love punisher mode
Older than 40 and this is my first Final Fantasy game. Looking forward to it.
You loved it right?
@@anthonybkr probably thought a five year old wrote the dialog
L1 for multi-use.
Need to heal up after a tough random encounter? select the cure spell or potion you want and hold L1 to cycle through your team using it more than once without having to hit X and go through the menu options again.
But be careful if you have Magnify on your Healing materia as L1 also toggles between casting on all characters or one.
Yeah I have a habit of hoarding all my items for those imaginary battles in RPGs. 😂
I sometimes just sell the low tier healing items. I tend to grind to where I don't need to use them often, thus they're not really needed. Then when you NEED to heal they're too weak to be helpful.
I've been selling all mine for purchases. I don't need potions with Regen or cure... The MP is almost always refilled with Shinra crates.
I used all mine on Janova, than needed them agenst Rufus
Lol
Jose I never needed items throughout the entire game. Between healing with magic outside of combat and resting on benches that are everywhere, there’s no need. Can’t use items in hard mode anyway.
Didn't use a single elixir my first run through, I was keeping everything stocked for the hard mode, jokes on me
Just got the platinum today. Such a great game.
A good tip for hard mode is switch between character after every command or two.
This will cause the enemies to change their target, giving you valuable time to pull of a move or a spell.
How difficult is it if people already have platinum?
@@Aeneiden Extremely, it took me 81 hours for the platinum. Hard mode is very hard. It lives up to the name. Very tactical, hard to master.
Nice one. Working my way to it myself. Hard Mode didn't feel too bad until I got to that damn house in the coliseum.
So you have to take advantage of crappy enemy ai noted
I am stuck on the damn pull up trophy...
Tip: Use Punisher mode often, it deals a ton of damage and pressures alot of enemies easily and also when you block with punisher active you parry enemies which also builds their stagger bar really fast
I love that Punisher Mode is fast. It really makes up for the loss of mobility and blocking.
madestmadhatter do you mean disorder?
FF-veteran here but damn, this game can get pretty tough at times. Love it!
100 percent agree. Died more times in this than I did in the whole of the original!!
i'm a first time player (i started with XV i'm only 12 hours in and i'm on chapter 5)
.maybe if the enemies would stop attacking for 5 seconds so you can hit them after you block or dodge it wouldn't be so annoying
@@justinthibodeaux8601 Try punisher mode for melee enemies. Hold guard while in punisher mode and wait for them to attack, Cloud immediately counters and knocks them off balance, allowing you to absolutely wreck them!
@@mikkdc final boss is a melee enemy he attacks right through you in his last 2 phases
From what I have learned by playing the game, having the basic elements on each character (fire/ice/lightning) is a huge help since most of the enemies are weak to one of these. If each character can deal damage based on the enemy weakness the battles will go much smoother. Having aero materia equipped on melee fighters is also helpful to deal with a lot of the flying enemies as they tend to be weak to wind. Healing on each one is a must since anyone needs to be able to heal if you mess up or take too much damage. For leveling up the revive materia, have it connected to the AP up materia to double the amount of AP. It is transformed from a purple materia that needs you to take a certain amount of steps with it equipped.
Simple battle tip: Bring up the command menu during fights ever now then especially during boss fights. Slows down the fight gives you a chance to breath and figure something out.
Better still just press the touch pad it brings up the enemy Intel and totally pauses the game.
@@zerochill4326 I didn't even know that. That is useful
@@zerochill4326 9999999999
When using an item out of combat, hold L1 to be able to use said item multiple times without closing the window every time...
Side Note: There is no tip for dealing with the nostalgia, just embrace it! Lol, I absolutely love this game.
When I saw the little item "shop" , in Wall Market, with the gatling gun that fires when you touch the computer, man that took me right back. So many examples like that.
Z Butler like barret occasionally singing the victory song after a battles over. Always makes me smile. Lol
Deadly Dodge is essential when you’re in a section alone as Cloud or anyone in the colosseum. The area of effect helps you control the flow of battle versus multiple small opponents. Just dodge into groups of enemies and scatter them to single them out.
So helpful! I’m 6 hours in and just learning the battle system. Took the day off work so I can try out these tips!
i like the fact that you can change characters while you're fighting, and the others will still act. That's really cool!
This was actually EXTREMELY USEFUL, I really appreciate it guys and gals¡!¡! I have played FFs, but never 7, so Remake is my first exposure to 7, and while I'm picking up the mechanics fairly quickly, I did need to know all the tips you just shared. This game is worth the wait and money without a doubt!!
Here's a tip for you all: while this game plays into the action RPG genre, most of your damage comes from commands and your characters can not only dodge, but also... *drumroll* block! Obviously not every hit, like that one boss we're not talking about, but blocking cuts the damage you take (duh) while ALSO boosting your ATB, so that little bit of chip damage can become an extra heal or stagger hit, compared to just dodging out of the way and counting precious seconds until the ATB is full again. Keep in mind that blocking without being hit slows down your ATB charge, so you have to block only when actually necessary. Maybe all this sounds complicated, maybe it seems to go without saying, but in any case, it's an important gameplay mechanic that you shouldn't do without.
Also elemental exploitation always pressures enemies, use it and abuse it whenever things get tough.
Got this in ps plus, I m absolutely loving it, played one more ffs on playstation 2, and on psp dissidia. This is great, glad I waited so long as there not many games out during this time :)), and I still have the ffxv to play. Really happy I started playing this.
Thank you for the tips! Playing this franchise and game for the first time and i’m absolutely loving it. I’m not the best with selecting materia but i’m experimenting!
Another huge tip which I didnt figure out until a fair way into the game - USE PUNISHER MODE and hold guard vs melee enemies. As soon as they attempt to hit you, Cloud counters, allowing you to follow up with some serious damage.
He also counters during that brief moment when you switch into punisher too. That effect around him when you switch means you can pull off a quick parry in a pinch or to keep momentum without having to sit and wait around.
I learned that. It really helped against some fights. I'm playing Hard Mode and on Chapter 9 and dreading that boss that they won't mention.
Rob, Jesse IS best girl! Great tips. To anyone questioning if they should get it or not, get off the fence! Play this game! If you are judging this game based on the voice acting, I assure you, it is NOT cheesy!
Jesse is amazing, but I'm having a serious crisis of love triangle bc Tifa is also an absolute angel and I may love her more...
I'm gonna wait till all episodes are out, maybe they'll pack them up in the PS6
Oh and yeah, Jesse > all.
Sorry to disagree but Jessie is a tease and Tifa still blows everyone out of the water before the competition even gets started :D
Im judging this game based on the fact that it JUST midgar. I want to explore the world map not be confined to the beginning city which in the original only took an hour to get through.
Pfft...Aerith is clearly best girl. And yes I realize I'm doomed to end in a puddle of tears on the floor because of this.
this came out at the perfect time, this is my first time playing FF 7 & I just started playing last night, so these tips will really help
Already completed the game but came to listen to Rob
Playing the game on hard right now. Let’s just say the difficulty setting lives up to the name. My advice would be to use materia that allows you to heal without using MP, like chakra or prayer (especially helpful in hard mode).
And try and get weapon skills which buff MP regen or gain back MP, although I am not sure just how much these help.
Yeah, I'm playing Hard Mode now too. I agree with you. I'm on Chapter 9 right now. I hope I can keep pushing through this.
A true difficulty spike if I've ever seen one, for sure
Barnett Brown III did you keep pushing through? I just beat Eligor at the end of chapter 11.
Barnett Brown III from what I’ve read, he’s the hardest boss in the game so hopefully I’ve surpassed the most aggravating portion.
You can use the touchpad to pull up the assessment you of an enemy you've already used the Materia on. This is great for when you've assessed an enemy but can't remember how to stagger it or its weakness or once you upgraded access to where it targets all enemies you can quickly assess everyone and then if you forget, just hit the touchpad button to bring the list up. You can also tell what enemies you have or haven't assessed in battle this way also
My tip is: Turn the Damn music up!
I actually turned the music down as voices are hard to hear sometimes.
Aaron best music on a game ever!
Cloud’s counter attack skill can be followed by a second counter by using the punisher mode counter. It’s fun to land try it. Also using Barrett’s steel skin followed by life saver is great for boss fights
I have to keep the command window. The nostalgic aspect and slow-mo dictate that I do so.
Loving the game, going for the plat later this week.
My tip would be try out Tifa more, she's actually a beast and make barret the healer/buffer since he's the weakest imo
Barret the tanker
Keen to hear your thoughts on that ending Rob, certainly a game changer
Press the touchpad in combat to open up the enemy intel window. This is useful if you need a refresher on what to do against a particular enemy, or if you got overly excited and accidentally closed the window right after using Assess.
Thanks for the video. Just bought this game for ps5. The tips are very useful on my quests. Make another video regarding other tips!
Seeming how this is being released as a ps plus game in march of 2021 I better start watching these
You would thing if this video was meant for beginners, they would refrain from using midgame footage.
ikr. i love these guys but they should know better.
Lol your fine. Literally like nothing was spoiled except for some cool attacks which we already knew about
Late to the party but this was my first ever PlayStation game after beginning my gaming career on the N64. Just grabbed this now via ps plus, and wow what an incredible game it is. Thanks for the tips Rob, as always sensational stuff from PS Access
Make a save before going into the vents in the Shinra building. It can glitch while looking out though the 2 vents forcing a reload. I lost progress in the combat simulator when it happened to me as the last autosave was just after the first battle.
Not going to lie to u but these tip u r giving r literally the best tips I've seen in anything vids in a long time i was expecting bs tips that the game already showed u like most youtuber do but ir tips were actually strategic af love it keep it up n im subbing because of this
Tip: While Barret's Overcharge is on cooldown, pressing 'charge' right after Barret recoils from his basic attack will interrupt the recoil animation, its about the same length, but you get that cool down reduction for Overcharge
Having a lot of fun with this game. Just got to the second reactor. Doing a little teaser here cause I feel that it’s getting tougher.
Follow up with a block after the counter slash ability to block combo attacks from bosses
Thank you for the tips. This is my first ever final fantasy game and I just picked up the PS5 version today. Looks overwhelming but I think I’ll get a hang of it
I just bought the final fantasy VII Deluxe Edition last night. I have never played Final Fantasy VII except for the remake demo so I’m super excited.
Anyone else watching to get ready for the ps plus drop!
Yessssss
I hated it when you assessed an enemy and all you get is... TACTICAL DATA UNAVAILABLE
Does that mean it didn’t work? I noticed that by halfway through the game and don’t understand what it means.
Sonic is the best it worked, some enemies they just don’t want to give away the way to beat them so easily. Like the last boss for example
I hated that boss "we aren't talking about"...one tip if you think you messed up your weapon configuration you can reset your weapons with chadley
Super useful, thanks!
I was expecting that boss to be much worse, I managed it on my first try with 5 mega potions a few ethers and a few hi-potions. Just key to avoid attacks, keep curing and using the right elemental magic at the time and using ether to keep up the MP.
Thanks for the guide, it's been very helpful!
Playing the game for the first time. Chapter 5 So far going for that 2nd reactor! Thanks for all the tips guys
Tip 21: learn to block and counter. Cloud’s publisher block is brilliant for faster melee type enemies.
Tip 22: Tifa is totally overpowered; learn to use her unbridled strength abilities on those more troubling bosses.
Tip 23: Steadfast block is way better than it seems.
Tip 24: there’s a time for attack and a time for defence; master the block and counter moves to really take things forward.
Tip 25: spend those Moogle medals. Once you hit 99 you can’t get anymore
Thanks this was very helpful 👍
I've just completed it and have to say that at moments i was in tears of joy. I was 17 and in 1st year at Uni when I played the original. I've since played through it god knows how many times. I had real excitement for this coming out but I was also absolutely cacking it that they wouldn't be able to pull it off properly.
I didn't need to fear. It was INCREDIBLE!! I had no idea about the level 2 Limit Breaks so that'll require another play through.
Just use chapter select on easy
this is best vid on youtube for frustrated newcommers like me new to this FF7 role play style game totally baffled confused by all the control commands and mechanics. The explanations in this vid are communicated clearly and logically unlike the other vids I been watching.
Small tip after barrets big blast when holding square push triangle to speed up both the reload and charge animation
Retry Battles. Most times, you can change your materia setup to a more devastating one after you've assessed the fight. Very handy.
Great video, Rob.
This was great thanks.
Upgrade mp up and hp up for hard mode one on each character will be a huge game changer as well as having prayer and chakra for free heals helps significantly. Hard mode is doable if you slot your materia properly
Thanks for the limit break lvl 2 tip!
Thank you for the tips! It's only now that i have time to play this. And i will definitely savor this moment! =)
I'm a little late but just bought both parts of ff7.
Thanks for this very good and informative video it will help me a lot.
I ordered a copy today and I can’t wait to play tomorrow I’m also new to the series
Indeed...what am experience this game is. Thanks for the tips :)
The single most important tip that I missed, using L1 allows you to use the same item/spell several times in a row
Best final fantasy game ever. I think I’m going to try and platinum this game
I just started playing this game! Thanks
Haven't started ff7 so good to know this
I've hoarded so many items I do need to use them.... but sometimes I use abilities more than mp for the characters 😅
I am so happy that the game counts the battle research missions forward. So if you already did five of something you will need to do ten of the first five already count towards it.
A lot of people dont know this and dont use punisher mode because "it's too slow", while in punisher mode holding block will parry an opponent's attack and leave them open for your attacks.
Hardly enemies will continue attacking anyway and you get hit for doing something correct most of the bosses anyway
I've just hit chapter 13 .... what a ride it's been upto this point
I never thought to combine the health regen materia with Deadly Dodge, that would have been crazy useful against those sanguins.
Just got up to chapter 12 such a good game really addictive game to play
Not sure if you mentioned it. But yesterday when I was fighting Reno i realized blocking with punisher mode gives you a physical counter that gives a good portion of stagger points
jesus you been playing since the release? my hats off to you
Much appreciated, this is my first time playing FFXII, and i must say i am loving it!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, XII? They remade that?
16 elemental works better as a defensive materia many bosses only use one element so if you are having trouble swapping out the correct elements can often trivialise a difficult boss (shiva is a prime example of this but the majority of them are similar when not physically attacking.)
great tips! im first walkthrough right now and these tips helping out alot
Be ready for the hellhouse is not a walk on the park
@@carlosmorante402 just rocked Reno a few minutes ago and gunna call it quits for the day to edit! very excited to see what goes down!
One beginner tip I have is on using the advance spell attack on the Spell Command. When Using Spells if you toggle Right you active stronger spells. I don't know this until I reach CH.9 :( . Hope it help people who playing.
A young coworker of mine said "I wanted to got down to the hideout under Seventh Heaven"
I said "I've been down there before"
Hear hear I second these tips!
There is a materia called pedometer materia whatever u do equip that puppy and walk or run 5000 steps it will evolve into a ap up materia u can use to get more ap to level up ur materia u will need it to complete one of ur sidequest
Pedometer? You serious lol
Oznem Derks Yes, because you need to earn it by walking around.
Revive and AP up was my trick for getting that last battle intel report lol
Do the side quests at the same time not one at a time, all the quests are basically designed so they run into each other, especially the three fetch quests. You'll get everything you need without having to actually try to complete them. And often some quests can't be completed without other quests. In my play through i never had to grind or go out of my way for anything and given i was on a schedule to get back to work i appreciated that.
I’ve been a gamer since childhood but this is gonna be my 1st FF game. Just downloaded it off the PS Store.
Always heal before hitting shinra crates especially if playing on hard mode since it’s the only way you can get MP
You can build Clouds weapon proficiency in the Whack a Box mini-game on normal, haven't played hard yet, so not sure if that rings true. Good way to level and grind out a trophy if you don't get it your first try.
I’ve played for about 3-4 hours as I’m still at work during the lockdown and then fatherly duties when I get home. But F me I love this game. I want to take my time because I know it’s not the whole game. I’m excited and sad at the same time because of it. Playing it just reminds me how much I love ff7 😢
Enjoy taking your time with it. Seriously worth it. The amount of times I've just stopped and listened to the music... Just soaked in the emotions being told to me... Totally worth it.
That bloody Hell House was a nightmare! I eventually just went 'classic mode' on it; I wish that there was a classic mode that was still 'normal' difficulty in some way.
Loving this game so far but I'm kicking myself for not getting y he level 2 limit breaks before infiltrating into the Corneo mansion.
Same. Im selecting that chapter to replay and getting those before even attempting hard mode!
The undead horse chariot boss in the train graveyard, have steal materia equipped, to be able to get aerith a new staff
This was a thing I learned in FFX-2... STEAL FROM EVERYTHING. If you get junk you don't want to use, now you have junk you can sell :p
This is literally the only thing worth stealing and I completely missed it on my playthrough...
Tip you didn't mention
Use x to open up menu not just to issue commands but to take a breath and assess the field of battle. You can play it as an action game sure but the system really opens up when you take the time to think a little. Oh and some of my favorite moments were when I accidentally paused it at just the right time for an awesome freeze frame.
Just got the platinum, amazing game! Counterstance, counterstance, and more counterstance (and blocking in punisher mode for the auto parry) on hard mode
Have you slept. What did you use to stay up
@@iainmackie1606 only when required and lots of coffee. No honestly it was more just having literally nothing else to do and enjoying it too much to put it down to watch Netflix or something
Quarantine must help
Tip: try to ignore the cones and bars when exploring, you never know what is hidden behind if you never got behind them
Hey Rob, can you please do a tips for hard mode vid?
Rob you should have said for the buy discount items unless you are playing on hard because on hard acess to the item menu is locked out so it wont matter if you buy 99 hi potions cause on hard you cant use em
I came close to throwing my controller at the screen during that boss we're not talking about -.-
That aside, the last tip is the most important and one it took me until almost the end of the game (haven't finished because my copy arrived late) to realize. For harder fights, switch characters constantly; don't spend more than a couple of seconds on any one character...just long enough to fire off an ability or a few attacks. The reasons for this are that your characters don't build their ATB gauge as fast when you're not controlling them (there's a certain purple materia that will help boost this though so once you find it, equip it to everyone) and the enemy AI is heavily skewed towards targeting the character you're controlling so switching can "confuse" them a bit and allow you to avoid a lot of damage.
Something else it has taken me a lot of time to realize is that it's much harder to brute force your way through this game since it's much more difficult to grind levels than in the original. As mentioned, the tactics are extremely important to end fights quickly and with your party in one piece. I highly recommend for boss fights saving right before them (should be doing this anyway), assess the boss to determine the proper strategy and then re-loading to equip yourself properly for it (or you know...just look up the strategy).
I don't care what everyone else says, I like the improvements from the original
The battle system is excellent (the airbuster fight had me on the edge of my seat the whole time trying to adapt to his ranged and close combat modes), the story and character arcs were sublime and the voice acting were impressively well done, Sephiroth, in particular, sounds more menacing and imposing than he did in Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts,
