To someone who has never seen a Lentil sample on a combine before it looks pretty good,
I just love your style, Mitchell‼️ "just gotta put them to BED!!"
Hi Mike, I know you may already know this, but being a New Holland combine tech, I must say the CR combine does not have a shear bolt or coupler on their rotors, not saying they don't have issues from time to time with a bolt falling out, but pretty bullet proof design, still rooting you try out a CR one day!
Thats why we run the CRs. Great combine. Run a lot of brands but glad we are back to new holland
Words of warning Mike. Oily crops such as Soybeans, canola and such crops start fire easily in a drier. Use very low heat, and be mindful of the wind direction. So the wind doesn't blow any fodder coming out of the dryer, doesn't get blown around and sucked back in and get blown over the flame and sparks get blown into the grain column.
Thanks for the lesson on the lentils. Very informative
I think Ok! lentils grow in cultivation. Heartly thanks!
Hi from oz mike. Never heard of shear couplers. On modern balers there are things called torque clutches. When there is jam or blockage these go of with godawfull racket. As they slow down to reset they impart more torque to blockage and force it through. They totally replace shear pins in drive lines. And I love them.
Slip clutches
No. You are wrong. They do not have clutch plates at all. They have spring loaded balls that sit in hollows. When overloaded balls forced out of hollow and drive side rotates around driven side till revs slow down and force of springs rengages balls into hollows with more torque. If seased will not rengage. Go and learn about cam (or torque) clutches before making that type of comment.
@davidthorne2129 Slip Clutch/Disengagement Torque Limiter: Slip clutches or torque limiters disengage the drive in the event of jamming or overload. They have a threshold torque and are used for personal safety and equipment protection
@davidthorne2129 this is exactly what you are talking about.
You just don’t get it. Torque clutches DO NOT SLIP. They disengage. They do not have wear material discs in between metal discs. They look totally different to slip clutches. You cannot adjust the torque setting by tightening clamp springs. The torque setting is done at manufacture and can only be changed by complete disassembly and adding or taking out balls and springs. They look similar to overrun clutches. I’ve had to replace all types over the years. Again SLIP CLUTCH IS DIFFERENT TO TORQUE CLUTCH.
Great video, never grew lentils good info.
Your Round Up
Field will take longer to come ready. Reglone is designed to burn off and harvest within a week. Not really the chemicals fault. The weather has the final say as usual.
Great video as always
Will you review the new Case Quadtrac?
Good looking lentils! You know Mike you are a real farmer. Nothing but complaining in this video and at the same time I can tell that are making money of this field😁
Good looking sample, Mike.
Good morning sir! Thanks for the content.
Man, I would put those lentils straight into my pot, they look delicious! Lol
The LH rotor fuse really sucks to change. I've been there done that. It's always the part that is the hardest to change that goes bad.
Truer words have never been spoken
As I am watching this, I realize that we just made lentil soup. I know where lentils come from. 😊
Just make sure you buy organic lentils because they aren’t “sprayed” (they’re swathed) so don’t have glyphosate/paraquat residue.
If I ever make it out of BC and come through Sackatchewan, would sure like to make a stop and shake your hand. Never knew until now what great job our farmers do and you my friend are far from a farmer.
Love the vids mike
I've told people that lentils are our hardest grind through at harvest time, and those who've never done lentils find that hard to believe for a crop that's 10" tall.
Heat and glyphosate usually does a good job getting lentils to die and dry down. Usually. But I expect buyers will stop accepting glyphosate on lentils in the near future.
In Europe the use of glyphosate extends only as far as December from a regulatory perspective. It would be interesting to hear how farmers will deal with the change....I guess the suppliers will look to have a another product to sell as replacement.
@@blinkybagger8342 There aren't too many options for desiccation. Swathing is what they used to do before herbicides were available. But lots of weather and wind risk.
@@tmlf1239 The use of Diquat within the EU has been routinely prohibited since 2019, though exceptional use is seemingly permitted via "derogation"....seems to mean prohibited chemicals are continuing to be used. "No equivalent chemical substitute exists"...fun times ahead.
When I was much younger, we used to use Raglone, a powder that would kill everything for 5 years. You applied it to a clean field and cultivated it. Apparently, potato farmers use this stuff rather than cultivating a lot.
Hi Mike. Is there anything you can spray on lentils to stress them enough to produce pods but not kill them e.g . very low rate weedkillers that you would normally use on a wheat crop?
Every application brings up how much you need to yield just to break even. It wouldn't even pay to do that unless it was irrigated.
Damn that combine is FAST!!
This would have been the crop for your Claas dealer to show up with a demo.
Our neighbor is running 4 X9s with the 50 foot headers. He does not like the 50 foot header & is going to go back to the 45 foot headers next year. He says the 45's work better.
hey mike. of course I have a question. why don't you grow normal grain in the low spots
I did, I seeded Barley in the low spots where I knew the lentils wouldn't grow. But you can't get too crazy, because it's way to hard to spray..
You should run a “Poll” to see if your grain dryer or Brian’s Farming Video gets operational first. You may have a slight advantage because Brian’s recent video disclosed their hired hand just suddenly quit and it appears many “Working Words” were spoken off camera.
Estas lentejas son las que se comen en España saludos desde Zaragoza España mis felicitaciones Manuel
How come you guys don't use air reels to help blow the crop in
wish I could still use reglone to desiccate potato tops its been band in the UK for years now
what we can use is usless
Reminds me of breaking sheer bolt on a john deere baler growing up. Was hot, dusty, itching and you had to unplug the baler to replace. Was almost as bad as plugging the feeder house on a f2 gleaner. Crawl under the throat and pull material out the bottom door as dirt etc went down your shirt in your face, eyes etc.. Agree that there should never be a coupler, bolt etc that breaks in a rotor. Why can't they put a slip clutch on the end of the shaft? That would keep it from destroying the rotor imo. Short similar story shelling corn using a Gleaner R65. Told my father to slow down the rear tail spinner as to not throw corn cobs etc onto my yard and along side ditch grass......plugged the rear of the combine as a result and slipped / smoked the belt. Belt was fine till we switched back to soybeans and it snapped. Was a new combine and that was a $400 lesson lol Live and learn what not to do.
Heat and roundup is what we use on lentils around Saskatoon. I’m telling you get a new Holland 10.9 and macdon 50 foot you will never switch brands again.
Reglone is banned here in the U.K. and the EU.
Yet we’ll still import crops treated with it from you guys!
Right? Haha
@@mikemitchell2554 Yep. It’s the typically stupid thing they do this side of the pond. There’s nothing wrong with Reglone. It’s a really good, safe product that our politicians like to ban for fun!
Europe should not allow to import it, when it's not allowed to use it in Europe, otherwise it's an unfair competition for the farmers in Europe
@@LJ-zp7ij even Red Tractor assured food allows imports to be certified as assured even though we are not allowed to use it. It’s crazy!
Case combines aren’t belt drive and there isn’t a sheer anything to my knowledge we’ve blocked our rotor plenty of times and never sheered anything
Cut both of those lentil fields equally as easy huh mike….. we will see I suppose 😅
Right.... We did see.. indeed 😂
With the short growing season up north will you continue to grow lentils with all the added risk??
I guess we ll find out, the problems have only begun - been fighting rotor plugging, chopper plugging and backend plugging while dropping the straw for 2 days on the last field. 🫣😆
@@mikemitchell2554You certainly could dream to have a “No Plug Combine” as I was hoping that issue was a thing of the past when you traded off the Fendt’s. Wishful thinking but then there is reality. All colours will eventually plug given certain conditions
are you rototilling or harvesting lots of dust
Wow!!! That's dusty lol
Hi Mike
Did I understand correctly that you sprayed this field using reglone? I'm surprised that you didn't know that after applying diquat, every bit of intense rain can overturn plantations such as lentils or peas, it should be taken home no later than three days after spraying😂
😆 Remember when I said I through a "hail marry" to try get it prior to the 2.5in of rain, yeah It didn't work. Haha
@mikemitchell2554 You're better off than me, we can't use diquat anymore
Mike talking about Reglone and RoundUp and we in Europe are pretty much banned on both hahah. What would you do if they decide to ban it in Canada?
That's a tough question, but I would say we would adapt at the expense of the consumers.
@@mikemitchell2554swath lol
that coupler on a rotor sounds even worse then a sheer bolt.. if you have to get a tech out to change it you may as well just burn the thing
Magnifique champ et la x9 1000 et la coupe et bien équipés et la récolte ce coi 😮😊😂😅
Would a claas be better?
Canola being 10% for “dry” is still rolling the dice. Imo
Hey Mike, could there be any problems/issues with using Roundup on the grown plants in regards to selling them to particular markets?
No, as long as you follow the label guidelines and what your buyers want, Ur good. 👌
Do you know if any Seed co or university are working on a determinate variety of lentils? Do you think that would helo you guys out?
Those lentils look like a half sucked Smartie sweet, the colour's all licked off & the chocolate coated shell has been spat out. Hmm I fancy some sweets now, off to the shop.
How come people down in Texas don't grow lentils? Seems like the perfect plant for west Texas
Perhaps its not enough money per acre, I think thats why so many people grow corn and soybeans in the US. The price for Lentils is usually better than wheat, and usually lentils will yield less than wheat. What are they growing in your area?
God dam elevator dock you for tough, but don't pay extra for really dry. We combined some canola at 5.3, didn't get any extra, they are crooks
Curious if you've tested the CR against the X9??
I haven't seen any lentils around here for half a dozen years or so.
if Reglone didn't dry the stems down it is because you did not use enough water in the application. it is not about how much chemical you use it is about water volume, and coverage. Ask me how I know?
You’re gonna hari-kari yourself climbing on top of your combine.
Morning
Your comment is always so pointless
Good Good Good 💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓
If we can grow lentil on top of hill and grow wheat canola at low spot, that will be genius
Great outfit - lots of acres to work - lots of cool machinery - the dude happily shares lots of good information/knowledge.....
BUT THE DUDE IS NUTS - PAINFUL LISTENING TO HIS PITCH HIGH VOICE NONSTOP RANTING.....AND THAT SICK LAUGH
You should get Titan to give you some Tires for the X9’s. 😂
Mike is not big on the “Sponsorship Idea”
@@gavinperry7237 I know he isn’t, but there are some things that make sense. Like the Larson’s and May Wes. You might as well let your channel work for you.
Mike can probably count on 1 hands how many times his grain tank full has gone off the last 3 years.
Maybe on the South farm but the north farm has had some really good canola, wheat and Oat yields last fall.
Would love to see more fendt content
what are lentils used for?
Soup
My perception of you is the Wayne Gretzky of farming.
👋😊
Isn't Roundup cheaper per acre to use than Reglone
Way cheaper
Yes but can’t spray with roundup if you want to keep some for seed.
🔥👊🔥⚙️🔨🏍🚜
Joys of machinery... I suppose my question would be, would you prefer to replace a $400 sheer couple or spend half a day unblocking the rotor, straw discharge and straw chopper on an Ideal. 😊
Haha oh the joys have just begun, we have been fighting plugging in lentils on the last field for 2 days lol.. Ideals are still worse because you can't roll the chopper back on them when plugged. But the S series has no problems with green lentil straw, but the X says no. 🫣😆
@@mikemitchell2554... Oh thats not good. From what I had seen the x9's throughput capacity was huge. That said though any guys talking about them were running in dry cereals after straw shortener was used.
@@mikemitchell2554Possibly a few X 9’s for sale and the additional of more used S Series if you can find help to run them.
@@chucklesxAchieving the output number that John Deere likes to advertise certainly hasn’t been achievable by other You Tubers. Possibly under the “Perfect Condition” but when is farming ever perfect or even close.
My fetilizer man calls it groceries. More groceries he'll say. More money I say.
COWS!!!
Ne kadar mercimek alıyorsunuz
Isn’t Round-up super toxic? Arn’t lentils used in food products that we eat? Just asking ? 😢😢😢😢😢🇨🇦
We will all die, even if it's because of cancer.
No, Roundup is not toxic. It is one of the safest agricultural chemicals ever invented.
But the media love to scare you
Go watch Neal Degrass Tyson talk about what it more toxic, round up or the sugar Ben and Jerries.
Compared to stuff like Monitor (Methamidophos) that used to be used, Roundup isn't that bad. Monitor is a Pesticide though, Roundup is a Herbicide.
@@Len_M. When Roundup first came to the UK in 1979, Monsanto Reps would drink it to show how safe it was.
There was a story about a young Indian guy who drank some by mistake. It didn’t affect him in the slightest. It just killed everything green he pee’d on!
It is far less poisonous than common salt!
The problem is that we are now able to detect far smaller concentrations than we used to in our food. This is what is giving it a bad name.
Kinda sounds like soybeans, I’d rather get them at 14 vs 8-9.
That is worse than pea dust
Spraying is never a good thing.
What would you rather eat weeds or food?
@kenhofer8063 Weeds are food, silly. Spraying is not the only way to get rid of weeds. Besides, they are becoming less and less effective.
I'll never understand how you spend so much money and it seems like you always have poor crops. All that equipment, especially in Canada, is not cheap. You must have 30,000 acres that you harvest. Even than, it seems like a break even point
Poor??? He averaged 36 bushels on this field. That really good for lentil’s.
Farmers have to be optimistic to be in the business. There is always next year when hopefully crops are better. Welker Farms have had a stretch of poor years so there is no perfect area to be farming. Food has to be produced so we have something to eat although the costs are always rising with the farmer’s profit margin being less & less
Dirtily dusty.
One thing mike, never knew you were allowed to use round up, understand why, but in myy eye, just don't see it.
$ rules
I mean you have to do something or else that crop will be worthless as you’d never get it cut.
Round up, unless you were to drink it, or get it all over you (which you should avoid with any chemical) isn't nearly as harmful as the media would have you believe. The residual is next to non-existent.
india USED to buy 40% of the lentil crops..not anymore.
