    I've always found the Buddhist base teaching of "Impermanence' to be a guide for me. Change is inevitable: Things grow old and/or change, including yourself. It is to understand where you are in your life and not trying to be 25 years old again and again. Clinging to the dream of youth or a set way of life that has passed will only bring dissatisfaction.

    I'm a Buddhist. These ideals are easier spoken than lived but that does not mean they should not be pursued.

      The mind makes everything complicated. We just have to breath and keep coming back to our breath. That´s not complicated, it just takes a whole lot of practice.......LOL.

    • @kane758
      @kane758 7 лет назад +3

      Jacqueline R sure! Many Japanese people do this by worshipping multiple religions, if they can then so can you!

    • @Fairfax40DaysforLife
      @Fairfax40DaysforLife 7 лет назад +3

      Well, no you cannot. The goal of Buddhism is self-annihilation (you find peace by ceasing to exist). The goal of Christianity is fellowship with God (you find peace by surrendering to His will). You cannot do both, I'm afraid. That is why early Christians refused to let a statue of Jesus be placed in the Pantheon of Rome alongside all the other ''gods'. They knew their faith was an inherently exclusive one.

    • @sonievkay
      @sonievkay 7 лет назад +9

      Jacqueline R i dont know why u cant, unless ur other religion doesnt allow it. buddhism is not really a religion but, more of a philosophy.

    • @DCAreaAntiAbortionAdvocacy
      @DCAreaAntiAbortionAdvocacy 7 лет назад +2

      I'm not really sure how people distinguish between a 'philosophy' and a 'religion' when we're talking about comprehensive worldviews. Like I wrote elsewhere, actual Christianity DOES forbid mixing it with other religions, at least not the central tenants. Same thing with Islam.

    Really nice video. Unlike 90% of quotes of the Buddha on quote websites, the quotes are actually real. And 4:33 is a picture from my temple! One correction: the word "Buddha" actually originally comes from Pali language. Sanskrit Buddhism came later.

      If we meditate on something that satisfies our mind, then our mind will not be hungry for other objects. But if we meditate on an object that our mind is not happy with, then our mind will try to find happiness elsewhere and squirm and shift to an object to this happier with. The mind shifting is restless. It hasn’t achieved calmness. It serves us to have technique and artistry in our practice.

    There seems to be a lot confusion regarding whether Buddha was from India or Nepal. We must remember ancient India was larger than present day India. Ancient Buddhist scriptures say nothing about Nepal, but talk about India as "Jambudivpa". Buddha was born in present day Nepal's Terai area. This area than was part of 6th Century BCE India's political system. In 1760s Nepalese Gorkhas became powerful and in late 1700s they captured many areas from weak Indian kingdoms. After British war British forced Gorkhas to give up many areas they captured like Gorakhpur, large part of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, but allowed Nepal to retain Terai area. After independence India did not claim back those areas. Which is why where Buddha was born today falls into Nepal but not India. But regardless Buddha was from ancient India.
