I think they do use midi sampling and run everything through neural dsp. Tim has a whole series of “making of videos” that go into the composition of some of their songs. It’s absolutely incredible how meticulously and beautifully composed their music is. Even with all the synth and samples and effects, these guys are putting out the best music out rn hands down!
I can’t answer your question on the midi sounds but I know Tim released his own neural plugin that pretty much allows anyone to get the polyphia tones. There was a recent video chat with polyphia and Steve Vai where Steve asked them about pedals and getting the sounds and Tim mentioned some new device they use on stage that allows them to not have to play tap tap tap with their feet. I cannot remember what it was called but Steve said he was recently made aware of it and started using it too. As for other songs, one of my favorites from them is an older song so is a bit more structured than their new stuff. Aviator is the name of the song and features Jason Richardson on guitar who plays one of the best solos I’ve ever heard. For a shredder, this song showcases how musical Richardson can actually be.
Here is the link to the interview. They talk about their writing process. They get to the live playing and how they deal with the sounds. It’s called quad cortex or something like that which allows them to not have to “tap dance”. ruclips.net/video/MKCsEDWl0ys/видео.html
I just want to thank you for mentioning how cool the visual aesthetic was. Starting with the stark, white room at the beginning, with their clothes, skin, and guitars being the only contrast. Then the play with the lighting inside the warehouse, using sunlight through the windows to excellent effect. I loved the choreography at the end, where they were all back-to-back shredding, then they disperse as the camera pans around and captures the cityscape in the background. The way that each guitarist had his turn on the throne was also a nice touch. Then the swing up to showcase the trumpet player at the end. All of it was great IMHO.
i saw a comment on another reaction video talking about how the music video is a representation of them ascending to god status. each scene change is a floor higher till of course they eventually end up at the top with steve. absolutely incredible.
I can't help but wonder if Zappa would have liked this. I like going right back and listening to songs like Stevie's Spanking to see how Vai has changed over the years.
@@RaymondBCrisp I'm not convinced, Zappa was all about improvisation as a guitarist, and expression and satire as a composer, popy beats and an emphasis on technique were not his inclinations as I understand it.

his guitar was crying so beautifully

what a nice reaction!
Nice job! Definitely want to see more reactions when the Album drops!
Damn, clay on the bass was also stunning, specially on last part
If Cal Kestis were a dad, he would look like you probably. Love the vid!

Soo good at guitar they summoned a trumpet player
Devin Townsend is amazing. Empath and light work are two of my favorite albums.
It’s POLYPHIA magic!🎸😂
I've tried playing that melody in front of the mirror countless times, but still haven't summoned Steve Vai ... what am I doing wrong?
Check out the neural dsp plug ins that they use. Thats how they craft their sound
Album comes out next week, and you could literally pick a song at random. Theyre all great. Honestly.
Older song but check out their early work on "Aviator". Pretty fantastic guest spot and all around great song.
I love that tune and I love Jason Richardson
The harmony sound on the guitars sounds like a Whammy pedal without pedal actuation, it creates a synthlike hamony in real time.
Steve killed it but this is Scott's track. So many tasty bits in his part.
I think Scott was letting out his inner Chuck Schuldiner with that guitar he was playing. 😂🤘🤘
he said something in his breakdowns of his tracks that he duplicates the guitar trackm EQs it and messes with the formants for that sound
Subscribed as soon as I heard you loved devin Townsend 😂
As millennial when someone asks whats the best thing about Gen Z, I say Polyphia

I'm pretty sure Zappa would have loved Polyphia and would have wanted to collab with them too had they been making music at the same time.

funny how u say goats of all time even though goat means greatest of all time lol
"G.O.A.T.s of all time" is redundant. "Greatest of all time of all time."
A string quartet with a drum and trumpet? Whatever it's called it sounded amazing. Though I didn't catch a single word of lyrics.👻
