- Before the year ends, I explain (with clips!) what I love about Richard Fleischer's 1973 sci-fi classic, Soylent Green, a film noir set in the year 2022 which stars Charlton Heston, Edward G. Robinson, Chuck Connors, Leigh Taylor-Young, and Joseph Cotten!

I remember watching this film back in 2022, and feeling relieved that our world hadn't become like that in 'Soylent Green'. I'm taking a break from watching this this early morning, and wanted to see other's opinions about it. You gave a pretty good overview, Joshua, and sounds like you enjoy good sci-fi, too! There are so many science-fiction films out there, great and not-so-great, but I'd have to say my favorites are the first two 'Planet of the Apes' sagas, from 1968 and 1970. I've often wanted to see 'Alphaville' from 1965, but I just don't think I could sit through it w/all that French language! Makes me wish I had taken up another foreign tongue when I was back in school! Anyways, "Thanks" for your input concerning this legendary sci-fi classic.
Thunderbirds I think had one of the best film sets :). But Soylent Green, which I watched somewhere in my twenties, had a great set. You just reminded me if it and now I badly want to see it again. Tnx!
Although this film was made over 45 years ago the political commentary is as relative today as ever, perhaps even more so given the widening gap between the idle rich and the working poor. This is a very telling story that compels us to examine the dangers of the current direction of our society. When I first saw this film back during it's theatrical release I never imagined that I would live to see this shift in our society, but the tells are clearly visible to me.
Very good film... worth watching.

1968-1977 Sci-Fi is the best Sci-Fi - when the acid experimentation of the '60s made movies weird, bold, & interesting. Fave future set Sci-Fi?

My favorite movie set in the future may be Serenity, the capstone of the Firefly series. Ghost in the Shell is also a close contender.
