I am an ironworker, and I worked on the Charles Street jail retrofit, and the hotel behind it. Proud of that job. It was a challenge.
Ypu are too cool to have worked on that. I remember seeing prisoners from the windows of mass general hosp. It was closed because of an important case regarding humanity. One prisoner killed another with a toilet seat and it became a landmark case. Im glad its a nice hotel now.
Boston rocks ! We moved here in 2015 and have not looked back. Old South Church is a not to miss shrine, and we attend services there on a regular basis, after being away from church for over 30 years.
How far away is Plymouth rock from Boston please?
Simon Calder is great
I feel so lucky to live in the Boston area. I see a different side of Boston. I'm gonna start being a tourist in my own city. I love this town.
You are very lucky. I am from Romania but I also visited Boston, Cambridge and Salem, I fell in love with New England.

Enjoyed this very much.
Best Boston guide I have seen.
Wonderful & very very informative! I live here, but your video offers such a fresh fun perspective
Actually fantastic.
the "what's left of our freedom" trail is a nice walk indeed.
I always wanted to go to Boston
Have you been since this comment?
Guys she never said Revere had anything to do with the Civil War...she was talking about the poem by Longfellow, which was indeed written on the eve of the Civil War in 1860. Go Red Sox.
this guy should review every city on earth, his ability to act like a fool is what makes this interesting to watch.
like a talking Mr.Bean
Just 35 miles south on Route 3 is Plymouth . The hometown of America . How can anyone get to Boston and not travel those few miles to see The Mayflower, Plymouth Rock , Plimoth Plantation and then take a boat Whale Watching ? And then another boat across to Provincetown on Cape Cod and then the Ferry from Woods Hole to Martha's Vineyard . Please don't go to Boston and then miss out on many other beautiful places that are so nearby .
The Cape is and always has been totally overrated
Plimoth rock is little more than a stone
very interesting

BTW a lil update to anyone seeing this in 2018. Mr. Bartley's prices are now triple what you see. Still a good burger, but OUCH!
Fallout 4!
The Freedom Trail is fun a bit long but fun. You really don't need a map. The city of Boston made it quite simple. the trail is embedded in the sidewalk. you follow a brick line and it leads the way. 2.5 miles might not sound like that far but trust me its far. Even trying to skip entering a few places it still took me 4hrs to walk it.

There's a BUNCH of airports that are named "Boston Airport". Even Manchester, New Hampshire's airport is known as "Boston" and that is about an hour away.
DigitalIslandboy Logan Airport is the one you want
The friendlywalking city
it is not Boston Airport, it is called Logan Airport
Kim Moses ARRRRGGGGG!
If our host wanted to meet us in London, would he tell us to meet him at "London Airport"? Of course, not. He would call it Heathrow! n NYC, meet us at Laguardia or JFK (known as Idlewild" before that). It's Logan and just get used to it.
General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport.
Boston Logan airport.
Boston Logan airport
I’m a little confused if someone can give me tips
What airport do you fly into?
How do you find the charter boat for $10 to get you to the city ?
Jenny Rodriguez you fly into Logan Airport
You fly into Logan International Airport (BOS). Ask anyone in the airport to direct you to shuttles to the water taxis.
north end! big up hanover street
Northside Gangsta
This is a dumb question but where is that ferry? Where in cambridge did they land? Im from here and I have never seen landmarks for this. Also, Dr. samuel prescott, a dentist, also made the trip, by horse, to concord but took a different route than revere.
If you don't agree with the power in charge, sounds like 2019...... nothing has changed.
Well the Salem side-trip was a total bust....any more 'bright' ideas?
Probably not one native Bostonian interviewed in the whole video.
Well, they never went to any of Boston's true neighborhoods. Rozzie, West Roxbury, Hyde Park and some from Dot are where true Bostonians are found.
I'm left!
@@GoofyNewf born and raised Field's Corner!! 👍👍✌️🇺🇸
Boston Logan airport
You people played Japanese music while showing a Chinese house in the Salem Museum. BIG pho-paw !!!
Phō is Vietnamese 🙄
This "historical woman" needs to review both her History & her poetry. “One, if by land, and two, if by sea” is how it went. Yes, there were 2 lanterns, because they went by SEA (not marching on land).
Ellen W she gets it right, the redcoats marched from Cambridge, they just had to be ferried there, then they marched from Cambridge
They went by sea (2 lanterns) because the British were ferried by boat from Boston across the Charles river to Cambridge and from Cambridge the British marched through Middlesex County to reach Lexington and Concord.

no matter how nice it is I would not want to stay in a refurbished jail! Just knowing what went on in there is enough to keep me out.
@BosoxnationI972 umm- hey!! I've enjoyed your other comments, but want to say this: Charles Street jail was a jail where people awaited sentencing, and served for sentences less than 1 or 2 years. It was nutoriously known for its extreme overcrowding, 6-8 in a cell intended for one, with a single bare light bulb. What I've just described is true of the jail in the 1970's. The ROOM in which the host sat was the drunk + tank.
Enjoy your day. Go Sox! ❣️

The value of a person in the United States determines the amount of a bank account.
Mary doesn't know crap. She gets the "one if by land, two is by sea" reversed. She did not mention an important, and interesting fact that the Bunker Hill Monument is not on "Bunker Hill" but on Breed's Hill, where indeed, most of the battle was fought.
Philip Bourdon the 2 if by sea was for the Cambridge ferry, the redcoats ferried there then marched from Cambridge, she gets it right
Tell me: Where is the gold grasshopper?
21:26 what accent is this?
Late reply, but it sounds Scottish.
At 5:40 she says Paul Revere was a messenger on the eve of the American Civil War. Hahaha
No - she said Longfellow wrote his poem "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" on the eve of the American Civil War., which right before LOL.
Come back and visit me at the Bell in Hand!! I'll take you on that Pub Crawl I promised through the Freedom Trail Foundation. (If that doesn't make sense, then watch starting at 11:35) Signed, Deborah Samson ;)
Pub Crawl is a British thing/saying ... Don't you Yanks have Bars, so if you could drop the British thing ... We don't want to be associated with a terrorist loving city like Boston.
Too late! You already are. Tough luck there, Mate. And, by the way, Yanks live in NYC.
John Taylor Many Irish settled in Boston, so calling it a "Pub Crawl" is appropriate.
Judith Kalaora Yanks is a totally British term. The term here is Yankee, and it refers to the sort of upper strata of New England society that can trace their lineage back to the original English settlers.
I never associate "Yanks" with the upper strata of New England society so it shows that word associations can change from person to person. I first think of George M. Cohan and the song "Over There".
Over there, over there
Send the word, send the word over there
That the Yanks are coming, the Yanks are coming
The drums rum-tumming everywhere.
So prepare, say a prayer,
Send the word, send the word to beware
We'll be over, we're coming over
,And we won't come back
till it's over, over there
Do not rent a room at the Avalon motel in Saugus Massachusetts.
Someone broke into my nieces room and stole money.
They didn’t care.
There are no microwave ovens to heat your food and there are mice there.
The Avalon motel is a bad place.
Whoever reads this spread the word.
I want a original Winklevoss burger, not some fake burger.
Zuckerberg invented the winklevoss burger 🤣🤣🤣
She is also wrong-it was 1 if by land 2 if by sea... She said they hung 2 and marched.... Whoops.
Nah, having been a tour guide during the bi-centennial, she just isn't that good or knowledgeable
BosoxnationI972 perfect response, so many people criticizing her when they didn’t even understand what the hell she actually said LoL
In my opinion, sports, food and environmental qualities are the least important aspects of culture. Maybe not food :)
The most important part of culture is the people! Lets talk behaviors/styles/politics/social life/community.
True, Sage. But the motivation here is to get people to visit and unfortunately, most tourists simply seem uninterested in getting know the people. They seem satisfied with the superficial stuff that was presented here.
ooops she said the American Civil War when talking about Paul Revere....
+123Rosko And she was correct. The poem celebrating Paul Revere was of course written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow just before The Civil War
@21:40......Elizabeth Warren?
$500/night? Step 1: be rich.
Ritch Elite Of City Yes Man Ritch People Do Want
Did she say Paul Revere was a messenger on the eve of the America Civil War?
Susan Harris No, the poem about his ride was written then

That not Boston I've lived in Boston for 50 years never seen those places .... Wait this isn't England !
