So....ummmm...... how many of us would have killed to be there.....and all those people cackling in the background, seemingly not paying attention to this man, one of the most talented of his time.
It is Dave's fault he does these presentations on resorts that only wealthy people can pay, like Dave and Tim at the Riviera Maya, I live in Mexico and that was a dream for me but you had to be a member of Hard Rock Cafe's resorts and buy like a week at the Riviera... short story it was cheaper to buy a round plane ticket to the US plus full band ticket concert...
Does anyone else understand how difficult that song is to play and sing? His proficiency at his craft is unbelievable. Let alone that he had to write the song to begin with. Lol. Unbelievable talent.
Literally took my boyfriend like 3 months just to learn the intro fluently.. It is unbelievably hard to play and sing this song (well, most of Dave's songs are, in all honesty 😂).. He's one of a kind.. An unbelievable talent ✌🏽❤️
With people like Dave, as I learn to play their songs, and then attempt to also learn the vocals on top of the rhythm, I used to ask myself, “Why would you intentionally make this so difficult?” But I realized after many years of doing so, that people like Dave are not making it intentionally difficult. They are simply following their path. It is how they breathe, and I just breathe differently. If you asked him to breathe as I do, he’d probably have less trouble with it than I do breathing like him, but still. However, I get the feeling that some people - probably Dave among them - are probably not beyond the skill of breathing like practically anybody, more or less.
Honestly, it's encouraging to know that someone as famous as Dave Matthews can play a backyard party and still have people talk throughout the entire song like he's anybody else.
I love it because we get to see Dave trying and failing to win over the crowd of like 7 people, after seeing him on stage in front of 70,000 people. Goes to prove that just because others don't see your worth at any given time doesn't mean you're worth any less.
Well to be fair the story about their niece who just got accepted into her dream art school after taking a gap year to travel to Spain and then losing her best friends mom to COVID and finding that job as a barista in uptown New York and selling her old Ford Escape in order to afford a more comfortable studio apartment and buying a commuter bike instead is like...super important
the5thyearSeniors to be fair he does sound a little like shit ... with his singing on this one :p. Also rich people are use to being at live shows. Your Music God is just another day to them.
@@donvandamnjohnsonlongfella1239 No, there is nothing about this performance that sounds like shit, nor would warrant chit chatting overtop of a solo performance by a musical legend. What's next, people setting cocktails on Elton John's piano while he plays?
Man can play some of the most awkward rhythm licks while singing over it. I personally find this much harder than playing a lead riff. it's impressive.
Any human with even mediocre guitar skills would be rhythmically attuned if Carter Beauford were your backup metronome. The glue, screws, joints and heartbeat of the Dave Matthews Experience is the drummer. One of the great ensemble drummers to ever sit on a throne.
@@JohnMooreSings how are you going to say Dave needs the drummer when he just played the whole song fine by himself. Credit where it's due man. Sure he's a great drummer, but Dave did the song fab
@@trustthecurrent My comment was meant to encompass the whole of Dave and the Band’s output, not this singular performance, which is terribly gratifying. Dave and Carter have been synonymous since Dave’s earliest days, therefore Carter’s impact on Dave’s rhythmic acuity can’t be overlooked.
The amount of passion and energy he put into that solo performance was equal to the passion and energy I would seem him at any big concert on stage in front of 20,000 people with his entire band. Incredible
Amen. He’s so into it. At first, I was pissed at the people cackling in the background, but then you soon hear nothing but Dave’s passion and everyone shuts up lol love it. His concerts are incredible I’ve been lucky enough to have attended almost 40 of his shows and each one of them he goes all out and gives it his all
I seriously don’t think it’s possible to get more connected to music than this dude. You see it from his early performances to now. I’ve seen DMB 27 times (not that many in the grand scheme) but this guy and the band deliver EVERY single time.
Every time I watch this video I think two things. 1. How amazing is Dave Matthews to play all of these complicated chords and sing at the same time and sound amazing while doing it.. 2. How are these people just talking during his show. So disrespectful. Just proves that money cannot buy manners. Thanks for being a great musician Dave !
📱”HEY! Yeah, you guys should definitely come out. There is a guy on the patio doing Dave Matthews songs and looks & acts just like him. Yeah, pretty good on the guitar too. Ok, drive safe, love you!”
Dude is simply my favorite and I'm super jelly that I haven't ever been in such a small audience such as found here. It bothers me to hear laughter and chatting? I would be jaw dropped!
If you get this our family are a big fan. We lost our daughter 4 years ago to the opiode epidemic. Your song Gray is so sensitive us. We cry but thank for your talent
Oh My God!! This looks like someone hired him for a backyard party or a small bar. If this were to really happen, he would definitely gain immediate fame and be into stardom, within a year. Such undeniable and unparalleled talent - an absolute gift he has been given. So glad he shares it - it is humbling - yet inspirational - not like inspirational like I'll aspire to able to ever do it - but just inspirational to know some fellow human will do this.
Im convinced he regrets recording it "a thousand times around the world," because I never see him sing that line live. He always changes it to a million
Wow. Dave is amazing. This is such a timeless, beautifully passionate performance. I love his guitar playing, but the emotion is what makes this song so great
Almost any musician can be rented for the right price. Some rich Silicon Valley techie could easily pay him 500k-1M for a 30m solo set and he might do it, especially if he liked the occasion.
I always enjoyed DMB growing up but it wasnt until i heard the solo acoustic version of Grey Street on the bonus cd of Some Devil that I began to love him.
Dude! How about stop talking when the most amazing, incredible artist is right before your very eyes! Talk later! Bravo Dave! I would have done anything in the world to be there!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
All that and he didn't even need superfly moves. The music he created was simply amazing enough with no need for extra theatrics to "sell" the experience. Just a person and their guitar without a need to "step it up". I bet he wasn't even wearing anything made by Adidas!!
Great instructional when it's a good camera angle of him solo. Wouldn't even check tabs. Killer Dave at his best. One of my all time faves from his whole catalog
Something in his vocal on this one made me thing, "I want to hear him duet with Peter Gabriel." Also, that's one of the most full-sounding guitar lines I've ever heard!
Check out "Dave Mathews - Tiny Desk Concert" . It's an up-close and intimate look into his personality . Oh , and some great music to go along with it...

Incredibly difficult to play and sing like that!🙌🏽🙌🏽Dave Matthews is a legend, and I'm proud to say that he's from my country South Africa
He’s talented, no doubt about that, but this song isn’t as hard as it seems to play and sing.
He picks the hardest chords 😮

This is exactly why I love Dave Matthews. A huge rock Star can just play in some restaurant/bar and doesn't care.. what a humble human being..
Some millionaire probably booked him for a quick session.
This was in Napa, so likely a private party that paid an obscene amount of money.
