Westin Smith does it have a DC in it?
The XT has the VBS Infinity braking system. Which is centrifugal. You still have to open it up and engage/disengage the brakes. Then you use the dial to fine tune your brakes. For instance you have 2 of the 4 shoes engaged, then you can turn the dial to make it like having 2 1/4 brakes, 2 1/2 etc....

I don’t know if you did it off camera, but you should adjust the centrifugal brakes inside the reel.
I did not. I’ll have to mess around with it more.
The brakes will adjust. They are just stiff at 1st, but you'll get use to it. Plus open or close your brake tabs as needed.

I noticed you didn’t do internal breaks I’m considering purchasing this reel with the internal breaks do you think it works better?
Yes, dial is very stiff on new reel. And, this has a centrifugal brake system I don’t think you set internally. The outside dial simply fine tuned the inner settings…..
I love scheels. I just brought in a trolling rod I accidentally bought 3 months ago because I’m a noob. Lost the receipt and the tags were off of it. They went back in their data base and found the transaction and I got a refund with no problems at all. Got the 7.2 SLX XT the same day. Super happy!!
A tip for person holding spool i usually have them put tension with thumb so it goes on a little better..... I remember being a small kid helping my dad put string on my rods ... Rip pop i miss him..open side plate has dual brake system

All I buy is left hand. Used spinning for 20 years before buying baitcasters and always reeled left. Just what I feel comfortable with. I was told its getting more popular cause now manufacturer's actually make them but didn't back in the day.
I always did too! I mean, if I'm right handed, I'll use my right hand to power those fish in and maneuver the rod. All the left hand will do is reel. From spincasters to spinning, and now baitcasters, I've always been lhr.
What are your thoughts on using braid or braid to a leader? Just bought the SLX DC and can’t decide what to run as an all around option.
I used only braid on all my reels for the first year and a half. Everyone has their line opinions. I really just tie leaders on my spinning setups or if I have a braid reel spooled and want to tie on some clearer water stuff I’ll use a leader
I really want to invest in a Shimano reel later down the road. I have 2 Abu Revo X gen 4. In your opinion is the Shimano better?
I have never fished with abu I started with lew's which I consider to be good but my oh my when I got a curado dc which is a shimano it was like where have you been all my life

We also used lews and when I went to Shimano it was incredible. Only problem is I never bought any lews reels over $100 where I know they start to really kick ass. I can say even the entry level shimanos are killer quality though

I'm right handed and only use left handed baitcasters like I do spinning reels. It really screws with guys like my dad who grew up switching hands.
My first baitcaster back in the early 1990's i had to swiitch hands and then in the 2000's I started using a left handed retrive and asked myself why i had done it the other way, switching the rod back and forth.

Just ordered the curado DC from academy online because no left hand in store, so so pumped, it finally arrives and BOOM right hand 🤦♂️ so I returned it to the store, they refunded me and I call customer service to make sure when I reorder same thing doesnt happen, and they tell me there completely out of stock of the left hand Curados!!!! So now I'm waiting on the SLX DC. Still pumped though

when corado k first came out the adjustment wheel was to tight the fix is to open the side plate back off the screw mounting the selector wheel grease behind the wheel and tighten the screw back down not so tight just snug. theirs a break in period that should not be. shimano has addressed this issue there fine now.try backing off the spool tensioner until the spool has side to side play then try external break adjustment.
Yeah I’ll test the tension thing or try that other idea. I pretty much got it where I want it though and it only tightens up towards the 1 setting which I won’t use so it’s all good

I recently bought 2 SLX DC reels. Its worth the extra money IMO. I can throw 1/4 ounce lures or 1oz lures and not adjust anything. I just upgraded the spool bearings on one reel to see if it actually helps or not. Shimano didnt use their high grade bearings on the SLX line
Yeah the DC is great! Wanted to explore and talk about cheaper options and may buy a base SLX next to do a comparison video since some folks don’t care for the DC noise or may just want something cheaper. I love it though!
@@WestinSmith the entire Slx line are great reels, the best $100 reels on the market. To me the DC was a huge step in the direction of making DC technology affordable. It wouldn't surprise me if future reels are cheaper than they are now. Can't go wrong with a shimano baitcaster

I have the same set-up as Adele. That rod can’t be beat for $50 on sale. The reel I highly recommend as its great for beginners and will still have a place in your arsenal when you get more advanced. I like the Lew’s Tournament MP almost as much as I do my Lew’s Pro TI baitcaster at double the price.

I'm suprised that's the first one in a while that isn't a dc I love the dc reels but sometimes they can get a bit heavy in the hand which is also why I like regular reels

Anyways, when all this virus crap clears up you should try to get down to Virginia Beach, it’s crazy saltwater stuff, and the real big bass in some of these lakes get up to 13lbs! My pb is 9.4 but I’ve seen toads come out of here. Just a suggestion, sweet vid!

I just got this reel my first higher dollar reel
Shimano for life!!. Started with an American hero lews combo. Both rod and reel ended up breaking. Rod snapped on a snag. But idk how the breaking case cracked. Left lews and never looked back!

Hey Westin, could you take a look at the sixgill brand? I've used their rods and like them so far and since you have used other high end rods I would like to hear your input. They have some deposit program going on for cheaper rods. There is also a bogo deal on the reels so it might be worth checking out the cyclone? A good tip is you if you can’t get it untangled you put your thumb on the spool and then you reel it 3 time and it will unloosen the stuck area of the reel

Honestly the Scorpion DC is probably my favorite reel since it’s exclusive and has the iDC 5 brakes like the $500 Metanium DC. If you’re meaning the red scorpion MGL, that reel is also top notch and has an amazing finish

This is funny to me, I just got a new Diawa reel yestday it was the 17.4.2020 I've SLX and SLX DC but for the first time ever I got a Diawa cast reel to see what makes so good, I have or ways use Shimano or Abu before I work with KASTKING. And I was going to buy the new SLX but I bit the bullet and payed $200 for this reel and it is far from the top of the rang for when it comes to Diawa reels, so yeah I hope I made the right buy!! Awesome job catch bass in water that clear to guys!!

check out the jdm scorpion 17 idc5 dc a little over three hundred when they first came out a few years ago. you can get them for around two fifty or sixty if you shop around. japan tackle eBay i bought the corado dc and like it. and bought the scorpion on a whim. so much better than the corado dc . i now own three of them.
