It has been quite a while since the 3D watch strap oyster design called my attention. I have been doing some research on finding a tutorial with a practical way to duplicate it but I have had no success. Once and for all, I made up my mind in order to do it my own way. Made in France Citroen DS cars highlight a similar pattern in their seats.
I also have found a similar design on furniture. It really looks pleasant how the 3Dpleats are interlaced forming a fascinating oyster pattern.
I consider this particular way of approaching this pattern as my first attempt with the posibility to enhance it and make the process faster and easier.
I am gladly passing on my experience to everybody who is interested in this artcraft.

Great piece of work. You should invest and change that clutch motor on the sewing machine to energy saving servo motor. Along with needle positioning it is a great solution and quiet too. All the best 👍

If there's one thing your videos show people over and over again, it's how to be patient, don't rush, and do a nice job. That's half the battle. Great looking piece! I like the 207 poly thread. It pops nice against the black leather. 👍

The upper rectangle shaped foam is 6 x10 cm
The other below is 5x9 and the lowest one is 4x8 cm

это конечно круто, но какая практическая польза от этих рамок 30х30, я понимаю там делать панели ну 100х100, или хотя бы авто сиденье , но здравомыслящий человек не будет таким заниматься, ибо никто не заплатит таких колоссальных денег за весь салон в таком исполнении, сколько может стоить такой кропотливый труд, так что, я согласен что это красиво, но однозначно не практично, скорее всего автор делает этакие экземпляры для восхищённых возгласов, и больших просмотров, не более.
If we used this method for cars it would be convenient to sew the vertical lines. To ease the sewing process would be done on a single-needle post machine and with a narrow pressure foot so that it runs in each channel.
I have used this pattern for a Mercedes Benz car seat of my own but but it could also be applied to, handbags, furniture, etc.

Thanks for the advice. I am not really worried about revealing some of my techniques as I am not devoted to do upholstery full time. It is just a hobby for me and I also like to share some ideas to inspire others to do it the same way or much better.

I have to ask the hardest question possible, but with limited stores to walk into to find the same foam, what would someone call it? It is one of those things that is hard to describe, but even harder to find on the internet.

I bought this foam (1/4" thick) from a local supplier. They said it used for insoles in the shoemaking industry (tennis shoes). Besides, it is used for the manufacturing of boxing gloves.

Very creative and an eye for materials. I bet is has a great “Feel” in this project. Not any boxing glove to shoe manufactures in Omaha, NE. but perhaps I can find a shoe repair shop that has not closed due the virus stuff. It is hard on everyone in small business that require foot traffic in the door.

The 'solvent based yellow glue' is a traditional adhesive or contact cement used in car upholstery and furniture. It is the same glue used to stick formica.
The 3 yellowish glues shown in this video are similar solvent based ones. There are variations in color for each trademark.

I have a some questions. What is the yellow material that the foam blocks are glued to? What size and material type for the top thread do you use?
The yellow material (fabric backing) is 'felt cloth'. The top yellow thread is polyester 138 size.

Wow that's an amazing show of your skills and with great result. Hopefully there is some one, that request you to this to an actual car seat. The result would be even greater than the DS car seats.
Yes amazing work.
Seat back or side panels, but Not a seat bottom. This design would be difficult to clean and dirt and liquids would get in under the leather.

Si es algo laborioso. Este diseño lo apliqué en un asiento MBenz para mi taller. El proceso de acolchonado es diferente. Se cosen las bolsitas por separado y al final se mete el relleno de las figuras.

It is not a regular foam. It is a special high resilience foam. It acts as a spring recuperating its shape fast.
As a test, it is my personal office chair where I sit down everyday.
