  • The Jurassic Park vehicles have been represented a fair amount outside of the films, however there is a common mistake that keeps cropping up… in most cases, they keep using the wrong Jeep and in mediums that have no excuse when getting it wrong. Ash "The Screen Hopper" shares his thoughts.

The game doesn’t have the right jeep because they didn’t have the license from Jeep™️ so they had to change the lights and grill to avoid copyright issues

For the Jurassic park game It also looks like they used the grille design of the m151 jeep also known as the ford mutt or mutt jeep from the Vietnam war because that vehicle was made specifically for the war.

This video has the weirdest energy. He brings up points as to why the jeeps aren't good and that they're mistakes that are unforgivable and then he justifies and reasons with the decisions made while criticizing them, and goes into extreme detail that I never imagined anyone else to bring up, and I absolutely love it

The video game could very well have had issues with licensing from Jeep because the vertical slots are part of the trademark.
I had an 87 Jeep Wrangler so I'm with you on the square headlights!

I actually once asked a player to replicate a Matchbox 1993 Wrangler with a Jurassic World livery for the JK 2012 Wrangler Rubicon in Forza Horizon 5 (if you have the game you can search the gamertag orangeTAMA ) and i'd say it's pretty close to how a JW JK Wrangler could have looked like in 2012 (the in-game Wrangler Rubicon is from 2012)... the park opened in May 30, 2005 and presumably (following my fictional idea) they could have used Wrangler TJ (and other vehicles as well) till 2006-07-08 when they would have been replaced by the JK gen till maybe 2013 when the G Wagen replaced the hypothetical 2012 JK Wranglers (probably, the park bought new versions of the JK Wrangler in 2012 as a replacement of the old JK version)...

As far as licensing goes Jeep cares more about the trademark 7 vertical slat grill than the headlights. For a recent example of this look up the freakout they had with the Mahindra ROXOR.

The Jurassic World Live Tour isn't inaccurate at all. It's not suppose to be the original YJ from JP. It's an updated version for Jurassic World. That's why it's a TJ with the updated JW colors and door logo. It's done on purpose.

The reason why the live tours Jeep is different, is cause its not suppsoed to be a JP Jeep. Its a Jw Jeep. so no wonder its not the same as what the used in the original movie, cause it was never meant to be. its just inspired by it.
The reason the game has the wrong jeep, is cause they had licensing issues with Jeep while making tbe game, and could actual use the accurate model, so they had to improvise and edit it. the licensi g issues are seen with more stuff in the game than just the jeeps.

I've always toyed with the idea of having a JP vehicle as a daily driver. Now I really want one! 😋 I like the film a lot - I even have it on LaserDisc. But the novel is something else. One of the best works of popular fiction ever written.
    PS I miss the 1990s. 😊

    • @TheScreenHopper

Yeah same it has always been a dream of mine to have a JP vehicle as my main car, it would be soo awesome. As for the novel, although I’m partial to the film of course, I would love to see a novel adaptation. I feel instead of a film, a live-action series would really do it justice and to be honest, I think we will one day get one, because they have already rebooted the franchise once before with Jurassic World (whilst still keeping Park’s canon) and we are now nearing the end of the new trilogy. Now I know they are supposed to be making another trilogy after this one, but I do feel they can only take this franchise soo far. It will inevitably come to an end and when it does the franchise will inevitably be REVIVED yet again, only this time as a remake… but of course how can you remake Jurassic Park without pissing EVERYBODY off? Well… you make a Jurassic Park series that stays faithful to the book… I know I would rather see that then a film remake of the film, especially when you consider just how different the novel is.

gees man minor nit pick also to add ya missed the Jeeps from JWE and JWE 2 !! but as to the Jurassic World Live Tour jeep ! Well as Dr Wu put it " Nothing in Jurassic World is natural " / Accurate think of Jurassic world as being somewhat of a bootleg Jurassic park and then it all makes sense !! also how do we know that the updated JW Jeeps weren't the way it's suppose to look ! Remember Clare was Shocked / Mortified when one worker was wearing a Jurassic Park shirt ! the consept is trying to circumnavigate around JP without paying direct likeness to it ! kind of like Rebuilding the Titanic ! ya don't wanna make the exact same ship coz the technology has advanced that we need sonar and more life boats and such like the point is that they are modified versions of the 1992 Wrangler YJ Sahara thus pay homage to the original while staying with a new look to suit the new aesthetic of the park / show . :)

Adam's Jeep @ 7:04 is awesome, as I'm sure he intended it to be. I love his matching mods. For those of us in the Jurassic Park Motor Pool who have "Tribute" vehicles (i.e. non-screen accurate vehicles), we bought what we could, what we wanted, and made modifications as we liked.
For me personally, I wanted to create a Jurassic Park Jeep for since I was a kid, and jumped at the chance to buy a Jeep (a TJ) when my main car broke down. I paid a mechanic to do the paint job, bought Jurassic Park decals, etc. I also needed a Jeep I could go off-roading/mudding/four-bying in, as I've been doing that since high-school and needed something durable. With a screen-accurate Jurassic Park Jeep, I would not feel comfortable doing so, as many of the parts are expensive.
So I paid the same mechanic to install a lift kit (3.5 inches), a hefty bumper (never know when you might meet a deer on the road), etc. I also had a sports rack/roof rack installed to transport my surfboards and paddleboards, as I'm an aquaholic.
Our Jeeps might not be screen accurate, but they bring us so much joy. I especially love seeing people's faces light up; taking photos of the Jeep and waving. Many people tell us how much they love our Jeeps. Mine was even used in a wedding. Some of our Motor Pool members have multiple Jurassic Park Jeeps - screen accurate ones and tributes.
I encourage you to build a screen accurate Jeep - you sound enthusiastic on the subject and a huge fan of the movies. Jurassic Park Motor Pool offers a workshop with detailed instructions regarding which specific parts you need. You can take a look at it here: www.jpmotorpool.com/reference/jeep/jeep_guide.html
You can also apply for membership once you start the Jeep workshop, and become one of us! The Motor Pool is based in the U.S. but is also international.

I agree it is a very nice Jeep, as are all the fan Jeeps that I featured in the video. Being “inspired by” or paying “Tribute” as you said and changing things up to make it a personal and truly individual vehicle, is of course completely fine and I applaud the effort and the creativity behind these awesome machines.
My real frustration lies with those in charge of the official Jurassic content, merchandise and certain games models, as they repeatedly get the design wrong (the lights) and there is no excuse for it, especially when in these cases they are suppose to represent the actual Jeeps from the film.
However that being said, when it comes to fan projects then of course it is completely up to them how they want to portray their Jurassic Jeeps, and I’m fine with that. I have a great deal of respect for all those involved in making these awesome Jurassic vehicles and as a huge fan of both the film and the vehicle itself, I myself smile every time I see one of the road (and in the UK it’s a very rare site indeed).
I have actually visited the JURASSIC PARK MOTOR POOL and it is an awesome site, I really should have given it a mention in the video.
Anyway In regards to your own personal machine, it sounds awesome and again I have much respect for your passion. I completely understand the need to customise certain elements of the design to be more practical for day to day usage, especially when it comes to off-road. After all… even muddy roads where a struggle for Nedry…
But yes it would be a dream come true to build a screen accurate Jurassic Jeep as it is my dream vehicle. I just suffer in the old “readies” department at the moment (money). But I do hope that one day soon I can finally begin my Jurassic Journey and join you all as a member of the JP Motor Pool.
Much like yourself I have wanted to create one since I was a child, and now that I think of it, even my first attempts weren’t exactly accurate portrayals… First it was the old “Jurassic Pedal Tractor”, then the old “Jurassic Push Scooter”, then the old “Jurassic Go-Kart”….. and now hopefully soon, it will finally be the good old “Jurassic JEEP Wrangler”… I hope

I wouldn't surprised if it was a licencing issue, but not in a "If it's too close we sue you because you don't have the rights" realm and more of "If you want to keep our participation, bend to our wishes". Jeep is a corporation, what they do, is to drive sales, and their analysts probably decided it was better for the brand to have the licenced vehicles be more recent rather than more accurate.

I think if that is what you want to do than that’s great, I’ve seen a VOLVO Jurassic Jungle cruiser before and it was awesome. Your preference is your own; don’t let anyone tell you different. My preference is to have a screen-accurate Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler, but if your preference is more flexible, than that’s a good thing as it allows for more unique opportunities. My issue has never been with the creative fans making their own mark on the fandom; it’s with the developers behind officially licensed merch, games and events that fail to accurately portray the vehicles from the films.

Have you seen any concept art and storyboards for Jurassic World? There are drawings of Jeeps, I would assume before there was a Mercedes deal in place.
Also, have you seen the Matchbox Jurassic World Jeep from 2015? They imagined a JW design (similar to the one on the Mercedes G class) on their existing model of a '98 Jeep, so it has round headlights. Later in 2018, they updated it with the '93 model you showed.
Interestingly Jada has just released a Nano set where they call the Jeep and Explorers 1992, but Matchbox had decided to call theirs 1993s.

    • @TheScreenHopper
      @TheScreenHopper  4 года назад +1

They wouldn’t… that’s my point. In Jurassic World the main (Jeep-equivalent) vehicle is the ‘Mercedes-Benz G-Klasse 4X4’, in fact all the main vehicles on the island where by Mercedes, none by JEEP. So what I was saying is that to be “film accurate” they should have used the Merc’s from Jurassic World. HOWEVER they didn’t, because it was clearly more practical to use an open-frame vehicle for the stage (as I also discussed). BUT they didn’t need to use a Jeep specifically for that reason. There are thousands of other vehicles they could have used with an open-frame, but they still chose to use an OLD Jeep Wrangler, because of nostalgia… BUT they got the Jeep wrong, it’s the wrong design. So instead of them “paying tribute” by using an old vehicle from the original film, they have instead used an OLD vehicle that, sort of looks like the same Jeep but ultimately, WASN’T in any of the films.
Soo in other words rather than use the correct vehicle ‘Mercedes-Benz G-Klasse 4X4’, they still chose to use an old Jeep Wrangler, even though it has no business being in or associated with the new modernised park of ‘Jurassic World’. And if they chose it instead for nostalgia reasons (believing it to be the vehicle from Jurassic Park), then they chose… the WRONG Jeep! Because the circular design wasn’t in the film.

    • @TheScreenHopper
      @TheScreenHopper  3 года назад +1

@derajalen Yeah and that also frustrates me, especially when they look like dune buggies and the fact that it’s a Jurassic WORLD licensed game and yet there aren’t any of the Jurassic World vehicles present, or even a decent attempt to make them look similar. Imagine releasing a Jurassic PARK game but replacing all of the Jeeps with Land Rovers, it just wouldn't feel right and that is one of my biggest complaints with that game. But still…at least when you unlock the classic Jurassic Park Jeep, it is the correct 92’ Wrangler with the correct lights. So thats something I guess.
