It's generally thought the head turnings were demon induced hallucinations

Excellent comment. I was 20 when I saw this in a darkened theater in 1973/74. After hearing people familiar with the true-life story that the special effects in the movie were exaggerated, I and most people I knew -still skeptical (no longer sure but skeptical) that demonic possession was a real thing-assumed the head-spinning was one of those exaggerated special effects rather than demon-induced hallucinations.

@ the biggest hint is that Karras reacts to it when Merrin does not. Karras is aware of Burke Dennings having his head turned and that Chris said that possessed Regan killed Dennings.

This film is a reflection on the loss of faith.

There is nothing funny about possession, evil is real. Of course, this was blown up for the movies and was very effective when it came out, we had not seen anything like it and it scared alot of people. Then there were those who laughed about it which is absurd.

Not really a case of somebody finding a cursed item and then getting haunted. Part of what makes movies like this scary is the randomness of it because it can happen to anyone. The way everyone smoked constantly in the 70s was the real horror in this movie.

KATIE: This reaction video needs longer to cover the best horror movie ever (best acting, writing, lifelike characters...). Unlike the terrible sequels, it is based on a true story with a few exaggerated special effects (180 and 360-degree head spinning, the allegedly possessed boy in the true story scratching "help me" on his belly with his fingernails instead of it magically appearing from the inside out, nobody died in the true story, etc.). Through no fault of your own, because of your youth, you can't appreciate how in 1973 - knowing this movie was based on a true story - it terrified us to seriously consider that demonic possession could be a real thing & how alleged cases of demonic possession in real life exploded after millions of people saw this movie.

This is what I want to understand from you, miss you. Seem to want to laugh through the whole movie. You found the movie funny. You find it funny that he killed himself by jumping out the Window. What's so f****** funny? That's what I want to know. I mean, God, that's a strange reaction to such a horrific movie. You laughing through it. Was it funny you're strange

Yeah makes me wonder what more extreme she's been exposed to. The movie is like 50 years old yet still is Scary EVIL. Horrific imagery even now.

Yes, she would be dead if she turned her head like that. But with all your junky CGI movies today, why don't you say everything is fake in today's movies?
