This has to be one of the most unique stations in the world.

There were 4 stations like this while they ran buses and trains at the same time! International District/Chinatown, Pioneer Square, University Street, and Westlake. This was the original downtown tunnel built for buses with trains in mind. They eventually finished the rest of the beginning of the train line, and then for a long while they ran buses and trains in the tunnels at the same time. They needed trains to be more frequent, so they kicked all the buses out! This is now just a very small part of a system that is slowly getting bigger and bigger. And all the buses are happy and thriving on 3rd Avenue, which is now one of the busiest transit corridors in the US! King County Metro claims it's *the* busiest corridor, but other agencies say the same thing for theirs, so I'm not sure.

The seat excess inside those Kinki Sharyo trains seriously hurts standing pax capacity

Seriously, they are starting construction on three new stations to extend the line further south. I can't even imagine rush hour when that's done. Hopefully, we will have a vaccine by then or enough Hurd immunity. They have since removed buses from this tunnel and it only trains now, but they are still packed.

Removing a downed bus from these tunnels was a true hassle, because busses can't be pushed and steered by rails -one rush hour crowd control guy I overheard in this station

@@RainbowSpinDashIsawesome actually they did that in order to run more trains. it was pretty much like they just kicked the buses out. You should see how the system is looking today!!
