Tom Hollander is a chameleon in this role as Capote. Would never have guess it was the same actor as in White Lotus. In another lifetime, Leslie Jordan would have also made a wonderful Capote. Also Diane Lane and Naomi Watts should get Emmy nominations for this.
I never thought that another actor could match Philip Seymour Hoffman's portrayal of Truman but Hollander blew me away. Brilliant series; Ryan Murphy is a genius. I wonder if he'd be willing to make an 'American Horror Story' about famous 80s icons...M*donna comes to mind ;)
He ushered in a new literary genre; if that's a "one hit wonder," I'd say it's worthy of praise. That being said, read his other work, it's brilliant. He was a complicated man and that's what made him so interesting; there's nothing worse than mediocrity. Truman was anything but.
Although Demi looks amazing in this interview, she certainly doesn't look 20. If you look at old pictures of her from the 1980s, you see a youthful, fullness in her face that most people have when they were younger. I'm not hating on Demi, I think very highly of her and I'm 61, so I grew up with her.
La Cote Basque 1965 was published in Esquire in 1975 but was set in 1965. The Swans were the last of a breed of sophisticated women who vanished after the dreary counterculture took hold.
Yet another Ryan Murphy production marred by hideous lighting... Can't anyone look in the monitor while filming and see the shots are too dark, too flat, and throw the color off? Ugh!
No, Marella Agnelli died at 91 in 2019. Lee Raziwell died earlier that same year. There's a story Mrs. Agnelli, wife of fiat owner Gianni Agnelli, was with Capote in Europe and he read parts from "Answered Prayers" and was astonished by its gossipy vileness. She broke off relations with him after that.
I WATCHED EVERY EPISODE THE STARS IN IT ARE ALL AMAZING THE STORY IS JUST THIS FASCINATING TAIL OF GREED BETRAYAL SELF DESTRUCTION AND HOW THE MOST PERFECT PEOPLE ARE HUMAN ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE SAME EMOTIONS AND DESIRES AND MORE THAN ANYTHING ARE FLAWED
K, I know it's been a minute (for myself at least) at seeing Demi be in anything, but at 1:58, it sounded nothing like her!! Where is the husk? The rasp? I'd almost not even know it was her! Am I alone on this island?
Toby Jones was incredible as Capote, heads and shoulders better than PSH. He captured the charm of Capote as well as his darker side, and Infamous was a better movie altogether. Hollander does a great job too, though I wish they had tapped Toby Jones to reprise his role as Capote for the miniseries.
@@jennybrandt5188 Yes, but what I really missed in PSH's portrayal was the charm of Capote, which Jones captured better than anyone. And there must have been plenty of charm in order for him to capture the attention of all these society ladies. I'm not sure the lack of charm and the grimness of the movie was PSH or the director's choice, though I suspect it was the latter.
These women were fascinating, in their own right. "Slim" Keith was married to both Howard Hawks and Leland Haywood. 'Slim' was the one who saw Lauren Bacall ("Betty" to her friends") on the cover of a magazine. Hawks brought her to Hollywood to star with Bogart in "To Have and Have Not", their first pairing. Slim and Bacall could pass for sisters. Ann Woodward committed suicide even before La Cote Basque 1965 was published. The accident or murder depending on who tells the story happened in 1955 and Capote dregged it up 20 years later. Babe Paley was in a terrible auto accident before she marrying Paley. Plastic surgery restored her beauty but she had to wear false teeth. The story goes that she always woke up before her husband so would appear perfectly coiffed when he woke. Capote deemed her " perfect". Losing her friendship was the hardest blow to him. She was the first of the swans to die in 1979 of cancer. He wasn't invited to the funeral. Many of the swans weren't mentioned in the story but they stood as a united front. He didn't even mention Mrs. Paley, born Barbara, in the story but told a scandalous tale about her husband and a governor's wife.
What`s with the dogs? Has it become a trend for actors to go everywhere with their dogs? Demi has been doing this for quite a while, but now Molly Ringwald?
Most of these people, except for Tom are TOTALLY miscast. Demi is beautiful but looks more like Babe Paley not Ann Woodward. Molly Ringwald as Joanne Carson is laughable.
Demi Moore, what have you done to your face ? You know, your natural beauty was already admirable, now you look like Kaitlin Jenner and all the others who have had their face done in that range...
I think (and hope) that she’s going to be featured more in later episodes. During time hops/flashbacks into Anne Woodward’s friendship with Capote before it broke apart. But I was surprised too that she was barely in it the first 2 eps. I thought, “that’s it?!” But there are clips of her in other outfits, so I think we’ll be seeing more of her!
Philip Seymour Hoffman was an overrated actor. I cannot stand to watch her movies. She always played villainous roles, redundant. I was greatly disappointed with his turn as Truman. Toby Jones delivered a better version. He should have been nominated by the Academy. Now, Tom Hollander is delivering a better Truman. Truman was 5'3" and at 5'5" he was better suited than the 5'9" Hoffman.
I don't think Philip Seymour Hoffman was overrated. He was a great Truman and was also wonderful in "Doubt." I've never seen a bad movie with PSH in it. I just wish he hadn't become addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Demi Moore looks absolutely breathtaking!!!!! ❤
WORD!!!!!!
Absolutely!!
I hope I look exactly like that when I’m a hundred.

Great interview!!! DIANE LANE is an ICON! :)
Glad to see Demi and Molly together, they were part of the Brat Pack

What a wonderful series; the Swans are so gorgeous and Tom Hollander is astounding as Capote!
Capote was a ONE HIT WONDER. Nothing more or less.
A true narcissist

A lot of great artists are "one hit wonder", that doesn't make their legacies any less impressive.
NAOMI AND DIANE ARE ICONS!
Just started watching this. It’s fantastic!!
Demi looks 20 she is absolutely FABULOUS !!

Such an amazing cast though.
I read in cold blood....with all the crimes, serial killings, everyday mass shooting..this story, the writing sent shivers down my spine. Awesome book
I found it despicable. You can tell the writer has a crash on the killer.
It’s silent commentary on Addiction is so powerful&rich I can only digest it small amounts - it’s so beautifully done
Same here!
NAOMI AND DIANE ARE GREAT PAIR!
I LOVED FEUD WHAT AN AMAZING STORY THAT I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF WATCHING UNFOLD
This show is magnificent!

NAOMI AND DIANE ARE GREAT ACTRESSES!
Capote was highly intelligent. He grew up in Alabama and barely had a high school education.
Are any of his swans alive today
Yes, but was he a gentleman?

Capote took intelligence tests and took three different tests at three different times because his scores were too high to believe.
Diane tá muito linda ❤

Demi has a scene in the third episode that is absolutely brilliant…
She was heartbreaking in the 2nd episode when she screamed at Truman at La Cote Basque about his betrayal
Nice seeing Calista Flockhart again. She married Harrison Ford and disappeared!
Demi Moore is still looks amazing
Molly looks beautiful ❤️
omg one more brow lift and her eyebrows will be in her scalp......DIVINE
@Rufus..Calhoun, which actress are you referring to?
IT'S NAOMI AND DIANE!

The full lips are new, so maybe that has something to do with it? It’s a shame that our brilliant American actresses can’t/won’t/don’t age naturally.
Her voice is different. You are not alone. 🙋🏻♀️
Women’s voices do get deeper as they get older. She could also have a sore throat.
@kmariamv to me, her voice sounds the opposite though; higher and lighter.
my gues is she had nodes that created the rasp and she more than likely had them removed

A terribly, terribly wounded man.
Diane Lane has great skin!!

So were the women they portrayed. Babe Paley was quite tall if you see pictures of her.

Distracting and affected.

The blonde with Hollander - totally unrecognizable.

Demi was beautiful before she had that work done.

Watched part of the 3rd episode, unwatchable.
The strong always pick on the weak, so pathetic .
lol we are pushing Capote....cool heard this story 1,000 times.....look at the bios of all....
Was a big fan his talk shows days 70s in his hey days guess he was gathering the swans secrets back then .
Very dissapointing, underwhelming show. Sorry! I was so looking forward to it too.
I think the casting is off. Dianne would have been a better Babe with CZ as Naomi Watts. Its just off....
I agree 💯%!
I thought the casting was spot on--Naomi was a great Babe.
Hollywood loves gay villains, which Capote was.
Sounds boring who cares about those selfish people.
it's about watching these fine actors recreate a time.. part of our cultural history.
