Ridge Racer V - 99 Trial (Hard) playthrough

- Played on Hard difficulty. To mix things up, I decided to put some custom music from Ridge Racer series (and two extras). Otherwise it would get stale pretty fast if there's only one track playing for the whole endurance race. ;)
Here it is. The big, or should I say holy-nuts-this-is-long, one. The endurance race.
Difficulty-wise it is not hard, as you will be driving circles around your opponents. It just demands patience. At least Namco was nice enough to pick one of the shorter courses for this race.
This is the PAL version (using the original copy I have), and was recorded via PCSX2 1.5 (nightly build btw). I apologize for
the muddy picture quality, but I had to use Software render because Hardware render produces some nasty graphical glitches. And even on Software it is not 100% perfect i.e. cars' shadow look white.

It feels so good at the end hearing the announcer scream "FINIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISH!!!"
Lap 16: Here's where that patience you brought up comes into play; not just working around stray backmarkers, but also the occasional traffic jam.
At least it brings some variety for this race and nicely enough backmarker cars can work as a minor speed boost, thanks to stripstreaming.
Ridge Racer V is an amazing game. I was hooked on it back in HS. But, it requires a lot, LOT, LOT of patience and tenacity to beat it. It's second only to F-Zero GX as the hardest racing game I've ever played. You've made this game look incredibly easy, which is bloody impressive.
Even on Normal difficulty, this game is a pain to win. On Hard, some races seem almost impossible to win because of how outrageously aggressive the AI drivers are. I finished the Standard, Extra, and Duel Races, but I never quite finished the game because, quite frankly, I didn't have the patience to get 1st every time to acquire the Maximum Races or to finish that 99 Trial Race.
I don't normally say this about a game, but I think namco made this game way too hard. I didn't mind that they toned down the difficulty in Ridge Racer 6 and 7.

I remember how I reacted when i completed the 99trial I got up and gave the double bird whilst walking backwards into the kitchen.
That was my 16th attempt, and I wasn't as good as I am today.
Haha, that must have been pretty relieving. I think I had somewhat similar reaction when I finally beat Class 6 GP in Rage Racer (the first race is just... urgh.) But yeah, this race can be surprisingly difficult, because the AI doesn't really mess around-
It is all about trying to keep consistent performance, while not making too many mistakes at the beginning of the race. Still, this race is really ridiculous.
Luckily Namco didn't put endurance race like this in later Ridge Racer games. (I think? I haven't played Ridge Racer 6.)

As a Gran Turismo fan I thank you for adding those 2 beautiful tracks. you could have ended the race by playing the song of the ridge racer revolution Drive U2 Racing original version
Congratulations on completing possibly the most exhausting and challenging task in the game. Now, all that's left is the PAC-MAN Grand Prix once you reach 1,500 miles (3,000 km). Best of luck when that time comes.
Thanks. Frankly I'm tempted to do some save file editing magic to unlock it because grinding 2400 kilometers doesn't sound exactly fun, but I will do that eventually... well, to be fair, I have never done that GP before.

You already start lapping people after around 5 laps. Man, some of these drivers can't keep up!
Also, using Euphoria for the last few laps was I think a great choice, but Grip Millenium for the last few laps and Euphoria starting on Lap 90 would have been slightly better.
Euphoria ending at the end of the 99th lap was great sync
Yeah, I should had used Grip Millenium at least once, because it is such great song. Kinda slipped through my mind. Anyway, thanks!
I just beat this today; the AI are spiced up and it is recommended to use the Himmel E.O. to win; once you reach 1st place, don't relax; put pressure on yourself to put some distance between you and 2nd of up to about 30 seconds. Not to mention that Lap Traffic are always trying to stop you; they're aggressive!
Unique gimmicks on Ridge Racer V I like(99 Trail doesn't count):
Free Run: Perfect to build up your Mileage along with tacking the tracks at your own pace; it's like a Zen Mode.
Beat the "R" Times to face them on Duel
Pac-Man GP when you play as Pac-Man racing the Ghosts
Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde are playable and they are Bikes; you'll never see both of these on the Average Ridge Racer game
The Extra Cars have 2 changeable Engines each; Extra and Oval
It is viable with ANY car. I did this with the Fortune on a stream, quite a while ago.
I just finished doing the 99 trail finished 7 out of 14.
Same Racing Team names.
But my colors are the original Racing Team Solvalou colors.
