      many metal songs gain grade by sheer power. however a "good" piece should accomplish something on a musical level. And if it sounds like something on the piano, that means there is something to it, other than just force.

    I always wonder, after watching one of these, what someone like Mozart or Bach would say to these performances... There's so much raw emotion to the translations, it blows my mind.

      Bill, I have had similar thoughts. When you have the opportunity, listen to Master of Puppets in Orchestra form by The Scorched Earth Orchestra and then give Stravinksy's Rite of Spring (1913) a listen in various spots. The similarities are a little haunting. Cheers!

      Dont put too many of these guys on too high of a pedestal. Beethoven, might have been Mozart, was into scat porn and sniffing farts n shit and wrote symphonies about it. So um...yeah I guess he's a genius lol. Edit it was Mozart. ie mo farts. 2nd edit: Lars also suffers from this condition by always kissing James hetfields ass. Edit 3: after reading the above comments I've come to the realization that I have possibly spoken out of turn and have brought disgrace upon myself and family. Humbly sorry m'lords.

    • @hattrickster33
      @hattrickster33 5 лет назад +18

      @@hgwiechie Actually it really depends on your definition of "complex." Does this refer to the technical complexity, the complexity of the meaning of the music, how difficult it is to perform, or something else? Besides that, these factors vary a lot between different songs. I would agree that a lot of metal is pretty simplistic and repetitive. But Metallica is a big exception. If you look at rock music in general, there are a few other good examples, like Queen.

    • @a5c11
      @a5c11 9 лет назад +9

      Yeah, it is unbelievable that Metallica's songs sound like opuses composed by the classical music masters like Bach, Mozart, Liszt etc. It's the key point why they are so good.

    • @bartuk28
      @bartuk28 9 лет назад +2

      I remember ,when I tried to play them riffs on guitar and I find them very unique. I mean special riffs appears in specific time and specific place in melody. Since that day ,wherever I listen Metallica's songs I just capture that special notes. That's why in my opinion Metallica is so special...and remind me my teenagers times :)
      Best wishes Kris

    As for the actual song itself, it's awesome :D

    I’m so used to hearing classical music being played on that beautiful Bosendorfer, that it is a real and unexpected treat to hear metal rock coming from that powerful beast. Wonderful sound. Music has charms to soothe the savage beast (or breast), but you’re playing brings out the beast in me! The sound of that Imperial is incredible! Your playing is so inspiring!

    It's amazing how much Metallica sounds like Beethoven when play on a piano. I'm pretty sure that if Beethoven would have had an electric guitar in his time, he would have been rocking out just as hard.

    • @MadJDMTurboBoost
      @MadJDMTurboBoost 7 лет назад +2

      William Lockhart This sounds nothing like Beethoven. He had very simple repeating melodies from which he would extrapolate. This is a whole mess of power chords that's very hard to follow if you haven't heard the actual song before.

    • @gothicknight5538
      @gothicknight5538 7 лет назад +3

      MadJDMTurboBoost Yes, I have listened to the actual song many times. As well as listening to Beethoven in which I also play on my keyboard. I didn't expect my comparison to be taken so critically. Obviously Beethoven's music is far more complex than Metallica's. I just find that the overall expression and structure of the song being played on a piano resembles Beethoven.
