I was just waiting to hear he stopped signing mid signature and demanded he get traded to the Patriots after all because he found a seafood place he kind of liked.
tbf, Lynch doesn't negotiate contracts and manage the cap for the 49ers. Paraag Marathe does. He's basically a one-trick when it comes to contract negotiations. Lowball the player. Ghost them when they decline the offer. Cave to their demands as the deadline to get a deal done approaches.
Stop talking about Pittsburgh. The Niners never agreed to a trade that didn't involve any players. now finding out that Pittsburgh's contract was the lowest of any team trying to get Aiyuk. It was never ever a reasonable destination.
It clearly was a reasonable destination.. they had a contract & a trade in place but the 49ers didn't LOVE it. If they LOVED it, BA would be a steeler and they would have gotten him fir a 3rd & a 5th, absolute steal.
The 49ers were still calling other teams in the 2 days leading upto Aiyuk agreeing to an extension. They were trying to find a WR to replace Aiyuk if they decided to trade him. They couldn't find a team willing to bail them out. The 49ers tried to trade for Jefferson in May/June. Tried to trade for Adams. Tried to talk Pitt into including Pickens. Tried to trade for Sutton. Supposedly Cooper was part of the Browns deal that was nixed. The Pats were likely sending Judon and a second round pick that will be really high. If they had found a team willing to send a replacement level receiver at Aiyuk's skill level, he would have been a Steeler. Also, Aiyuk was never trying to reset the WR market. He was trying to get 26M APY last year. They told him to go out and prove himself. He did. Then the WR market exploded this year. Aiyuk and his agent were fighting to beat out Amon-Ra St. Brown's deal. The 49ers contract guy and analytics department simply didn't value Aiyuk where the market values him. But the reality of the situation is that they didn't really have a choice but to pay him. They weren't happy with the 2nd day compensation they were being offered by Pittsburgh. If they forced him to play on the fifth year option, he walks next year. Aiyuk's extension has cap hits of 5.725M and 11.191M. Jefferson's cap hits are 8.5M in 2024 and 15.3M in 2025. Each extension fits nicely into their cap for 2024-25. A 14M 5th year option and 25M franchise tag does not. If Aiyuk walks into free agency, the 49ers would get a mid-round compensatory pick in 2026 for losing him. If they try to trade him midseason, they'd probably get a day 3 2025 pick from a contender looking for a half-season rental with Aiyuk. This reality of no replacement player and poor draft compensation is why the 49ers caved and paid Aiyuk what he was asking for at the end. Yes, the Steelers offered the least amount, but it still would have beat ARSB's deal in cash flow in the years that count.
Either this can make or break the niners franchise. They better know what they’re planning for in the future cause no high paid contract can be guaranteed success most of the time.
lol, one 4 yr contract won't break the franchise either way. We already moved past the Lance fiasco mostly unscathed. Aiyuk critical for blocking/culture for young guys in addition to being elite pass catcher.
@@GameStarGreeni think that was always the plan. Draft a Deebo replacement, and either trade or let him go after this season. They wanted to wait until after this season to extend Aiyuk, though.
I don’t think so but you could be right. I personally feel like Ricky was drafted to be Deebos replacement.. with Deebo play style he can only lose a step year after year due to the pile up of injuries.. while a guy like Aiyuk can get better and better. I really feel like the Niners drafted Ricky with the intentions of him and BA being the future. With Deebo being the current
Ja'Marr is great but he is the only WR on that list that came into the NFL as a rookie with the same QB that he had 2 college years to work on chemistry, timing & film in the same offense (or very similar offense). Ja'Marr broke Ocho's rookie record with the Bengals because of the extra game added and Ja'Marr played in the last game of the season while all the other starters rested to get ready for the playoffs in order to break that record
This is potentially a problem for every NFL "broken record" and records in general since the NFL added the 17th game in 2021 (Ja'Marr's rookie year). The records should be prorated or something or at the very least not compared It will be even worse when the NFL adds an 18th game Also, NFL added a 7th team to make the playoffs in 2020 (Burrow's rookie year... when Burrowhad a devastating knee injury). So there were only 6 playoff teams prior to 2020
Every good rookie has outplayed their rookie contract and the Bengals don't have as much financial flexibility as most other teams. So if they planned for his upfront costs (signing bonus) for next year, then that may be a huge factor in needing to wait until next year. Bengals made Andy Dalton (2nd round pick in 2011) the highest paid QB going into his 4th season and then the following year the Bengals made AJ Green (pick 4 in 2011) the highest paid WR going into Green's 5th season. Neither pulled any antics. Look at all the QBs drafted before Dalton to see that he outperformed them/his rookie contract (except Cam). AJ Green was a pro bowler every season before his contract extension (7 times total) and was a 2 time All Pro before his extension. And yes, Burrow & Chase and the whole team has gotten further. But Dalton & Green helped their teams to 5 straight playoffs including their rookie season surrounded by controversy with a defensive HC and multiple different OCs and offensive systems. Whereas this offense was built around Burrow and has barely changed with no major changes in OC... just a promotion for Burrow's 4 yr QB coach to OC (excited for Pitch!). So Burrow & Chase should have been expected to do better since they were pick 1 & 5 and both were paid well bc they were high picks compared to most rookies. Burrow & Chase have always been close to the highest paid aav on the team because they were high picks.
I don’t think the problem has EVERRR been Jaylen Hurts. He’s always been chill and humble. That coach he’s got is a bone head and hurts seems to have a good of character!!!
The problem was never Jalen’s character. He’s a really good leader of men. The problem with Jalen is his struggling to read defenses. Last season the blue print on him was to “drop everybody back, keep him in the pocket and force him to throw” … that’s what all those defenses did to Philly at the end of the year. I think this new Kellen Moore offense will be a better fit for him. As long as Moore runs him
Niners got 3 good safeties so they'll likely move off Hufunga. Kittle, juice, and trent will likely retire in a year or two so take them off the books. Deebo will likely be traded after this season and jenning/pearsall will get bigger roles. RB is the niners easiest position to replace in kyles system so thats not a concern either. I assume the next few drafts will be offensive line heavy and then finding som gems defensively in later rounds.
Commanders called them up to see what the 49ers were looking for in compensation. The 49ers wanted a first-round pick or quality player and day two draft pick in compensation. Commanders weren't interested in giving up a 1 or McLaurin and a 2. There was reportedly five teams that presented Aiyuk with contract offers that met his demands. He refused extensions with Cleveland and New England. He agreed to sign an extension with Pittsburgh. Washington is supposedly one of the two remaining teams before they got scared off by the 49ers.
