When you make the golf swing slower with this simple golf tip, you will see increased distance and accuracy. Take control of your golf swing by slowing down with this tempo trick. When you do this, you'll never rush your golf swing ever again.

    Another crispy lesson! This is by far the hardest and most counterintuitive aspect of the golf swing for me - unlearning the natural inclination to ‘hit’ the ball. Without getting too woo woo, what Tom is teaching here is very Zen. Effortless effort. Saguto (and his squirrel assistant) is the best instructor online. No question about it. At age 52, for the first time in my life, I’m actually starting to produce a repeatable golf swing instead of a random mishmash of arms and legs flailing all over the place.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад +3

      That's awesome!!
      Yes - there are two things at play here: 1) Discovering and dialing in our ideal swing tempo, and 2) Feeling that transition - or the change in direction - so we don't rush our downswing from the top and thereby lose our sequencing (a very common affliction within the amateur golfing realm). Our perfect tempo/rhythm - which is unique to each of us individually - thereby enables us to gather and unload the various components in proper order for seemingly effortless, powerful ball striking bliss.
      I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. Of all your super great tips, this is the superist and the greatest of all. As you know I've done everything I can to keep from coming over the top with various success using different techniques. But your tip about not unfolding the trail arm is definitely the very bestest tip you've ever shared. If I start down slowly with my right foot pushing towards the target and keep the trail elbow folded the shots are crispy as all get out. Thanks again for continuing to amaze better than Purple Haze.
    After continuing to try this I came up with a great visualization or feel. I imagine there is a grape taped to the inside of my trail elbow fold. On the way back I squeeze the grape and continue to squeeze it even when I start the downswing. Everyone should consider trying this out. I think you'll be very happy with it.

    Tom, I have to tell you- those "power source" angles you mentioned resonated with me unlike the "maintain the lag" etc stuff i could never feel. Now in my B/S I say "form the box" which is the trail elbow and wrist at their right angles. I have never been good at cocking my wrists. Now I bring it back slow, "form the box" which is my interpretation of how you look at the top and yes, slowly I drop and maintain my angles. Pop! Haven't het the ball this way in years ( before I knew why I was hitting it well!) Thanks. This has been a permanent fixture for me and I hope I never forget it. Added a club length easily. Keep up the great work.

      This is precisely why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason why the comprehensive, structured, step-by-step learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result (and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews ). The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Ive known i haven't been keeping my hands in front of the ball but had struggled. Today I took note of your points on the shoulder turn, but instead of just thinking "slow down" my my thought process was "start with my shoulders and let them pull my arms through". I give all credit where it is due - including Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett for analyzing and interpreting the science, and to those who preceded them with their empirical observations of the game's best ball strikers and all their subsequent chalkboard number-crunching. This is what I've been trying to do with some different thoughts -- thinking of starting from the ground up and staying quiet on top. But I find this is getting harder for me as I get older, I think maybe because I don't get as great of a shoulder turn as when I was younger, so I really have to work at not having an early reactive uncoiling. It does make a huge difference in the swing and ball striking when properly executed in a swing.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Месяц назад

      I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated with you!
      As for that "getting older" thing, you may be interested to know that the swing system I teach is a proven body-friendly method. I can vouch for that through my own personal experience as a golfer who previously experienced back pain, and It is further validated by the fact that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process.
      Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.
      Thanks for your message!

    Another great lesson. To help me keep the proper tempo, I count 1000 and 1 is the speed of my swing. If I start to rush my shot I will only get to 1000 and. I have to think about it every shot because when I start hitting it good, I try to get more, which causes less power. Counting helps to keep my tempo at a good speed for me. I think anything you can use to keep the swing of your club consistently slow and a consistent speed every time will make a huge difference.

    The best tip I ever received for golf was to stop trying to kill the ball, cuz that first incorrect move you make is exactly what I was doing and plagues every bad golfer I know. Not only is it the reason for mishits, but it’s also the reason for slicing the ball since rushing from the top causes that over the top move.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 месяца назад

      Well said!
      There are two things at play here: 1) Discovering and dialing in our ideal swing tempo, and 2) Feeling that transition - or the change in direction - so we don't rush our downswing from the top and thereby lose our sequencing (a very common affliction within the amateur golfing realm). Our perfect tempo/rhythm - which is unique to each of us individually - enables us to gather and unload the various components in proper order for seemingly effortless, powerful ball striking bliss. Executing a full shoulder turn is a key component for accomplishing this, since an abbreviated motion lacks both rhythm and a natural stopping point and thereby encourages the "hit" instinct to take over.
      Keep up the great work!!

      I'm glad you are enjoying my channel, Clarence!
      1) In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing.
      2) This video should go a long way towards answering your question: ruclips.net/video/ukwnUkpWxHM/видео.html

      Having said that, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason why the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why thousands of folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result (and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews ). One of my key swing thoughts is to feel like the downswing is in slow motion. Gets the most solid/effortless contact and surprisingly great distance.

      Nice! 💪💪 It's so important to feel the transition in order to suppress the "hit" instinct - which plagues a majority of amateur golfers (the primary audience of this channel) - and get the downswing started in the proper sequence. Slowing things down to discover and ingrain our ideal swing rhythm is an excellent way to accomplish that. This does not mean that we’re going to be slow through the zone. We are simply dialing in our tempo for grooving the correct path and achieving consistent sweet spot contact (i.e.: maximizing our “smash factor”). Think in terms of Els, Couples, Matsuyama, Cam Young, Morikawa, for example.

    When I practice this swing thought, I play much more consistent golf. Then my Hulk-Smash tendency creeps back in and I ruin my round. For those of us whose golf season is dwindling, this would be a great Winter indoor drill to do without putting full speed swing dents in the walls and ceiling. It would be nice to hit the ground running next May (for once). Thx.

    Totally agree with slowing the downswing. I think my psyche that the ball can’t possibly go anywhere with such slow speed. So, I watch some of Lydia Kos older golf swings to help me slow down and BELIEVE that the ball will travel farther, because if slowing things coming down. I have to enhance my Belief that it will works.i know this must sound nuts.. But, what really helps me is to hit a seven iron 20 feet and gradually lengthen the swing but with the same cadence. Your video just verifies what I’m trying to do. What gets me to swing too fast…?watching the pros on TV! This is why I pick a lady golfer to emulate to fool my brain in to believing in a slower rhythm.

    I think this is very good advice. Yanking it from the top is a swing killer for sure. I have a question though. I have a Lagshot 7 iron. I took it to the range and got comfortable with it pretty quick; hitting balls just a little shorter than my normal 7 iron, and it felt good. Then, I switched back to my normal 7 iron and it felt HORRIBLE!! Felt like a stiff rock.
    So, now I'm wondering if I should be playing a more flexable shaft. I'm 65 and still hitting an R steel. An A graphite might be better at this point. I should go for a fitting, I know....I don't know what my current swing speed is.

      There could definitely be some learning in your LagShot experience, Steve. I would indeed suggest a session with a professional fitter to get you dialed into the proper shafts. I was blown away by my first full fitting session from a few years ago which is documented in this video: ruclips.net/video/xp2c-oYQRVI/видео.html
      By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.

That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. The value in terms of what you get for the low price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.

      One does not need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.

    For the regular golfer there is no simpler more effective way to get a good repeatable swing. And when you start to lose it, go back to these basics. I've played my first few rounds this year with out of control swing scoring 106 and 100. I went back to Saguto's Hogan elbow and slowing down and seeing the power in Tom's swing that I tapped into last year. Am playing 4 times this coming week. I am sure I will be back to scoring in the 80s this week. And that will be with a torn right rotator cuff that will have surgery later in the year.

    Tom, I noticed you using an oversized grip in some of your training videos. Have you ever done a video on oversize grips vs regular grip size beyond simply a personal preference? I ordered my new set of clubs with +4's. The largest available. I like them but wonder if a set of Jumbo Max grips may be a better choice in the future? What would be the possible benefits versus short comings of large grips vs regular grip size? A Saguto video with your perspective on this topic would be a good addition to your instruction. Just sayin'.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад

      Hi Charles,
      I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large. I wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. These grips keep my hands much quieter - which I personally prefer. Also, since my fingers don't wrap all the way around and dig into my palms, I'm not triggering any forearm tension or activating arms muscles that may otherwise have a tendency to take control of the swing.
      Now, having said that, I recently purchased a new set of PXG's, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. That's where I'm at presently. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel.
      Having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf.

      HI Jack,
      I like to think of it as a well-executed orchestration, with the various component loading and unloading rhythmically and in proper order to maximize speed and accuracy. There are two things at play here: 1) Discovering and dialing in our ideal swing tempo, and 2) Feeling that transition - or the change in direction - so we don't rush our downswing from the top (that all too prevalent "hit instinct") and thereby lose our sequencing. Our perfect tempo/rhythm - which is unique to each of us individually - thereby enables us to gather and unload the various components in proper order for seemingly effortless, powerful ball striking bliss.

    Most interesting. Is this what they call 'angular momentum'? Like whipping a towel where you actually slow your arm down to flick the wrist?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  4 месяца назад

      Thanks - I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated with you!
      Actually, there are two things at play here: 1) Discovering and dialing in our ideal swing tempo, and 2) Feeling that transition - or the change in direction - so we don't rush our downswing from the top and thereby lose our sequencing (a very common affliction within the amateur golfing realm).
      The "cracking the whip" or "snapping a towel" sensation - as well as the tremendous power source of angular momentum - are outcomes of a properly sequenced downswing motion and not something that we should need to contrive, because that would introduce a timing variable which can lead to inconsistency.
      By the way, since this video connected well with you, would you like to learn some key aspects of the swing I teach in a more structured manner? This is why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. Hi Martin,
      They can certainly be considered as such, and this is one reason why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my RUclips content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of the school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

      Hi Collin,
      It's so important to feel the transition in order to suppress the "hit" instinct - which plagues a majority of amateur golfers (the primary audience of this channel) - and get the downswing started in the proper sequence. Exactly as @Bobby's Bearded said. It took Mr. Norman years and years to hone his craft and get his swing dialed in to the extent he did. You can, however, in far less time build a very satisfying, consistent, powerful motion that will provide you with a lifetime of enjoyment of this great game. That's what saguto.golf is all about! I think that's a fine practice drill for dialing in your sequencing, Matt, but I wouldn't suggest it for the actual swing or for on-course purposes as it tends to make the swing too methodically mechanical to the detriment of our "feel". I personally like playing at 80% and then dialing it up or down from there as needed.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 месяца назад

      It's important to know why the ball is behaving a particular way in order to reverse engineer the cause, Michael. The ball is simply responding to the flight plan assigned to it by the clubface at impact. Clubface relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. So in the case of a pull, the face is closed to the target line at impact. There are various possible causes for this, including the face being too shut at address, a grip that is too strong, a ball position that is too far forward, a downswing path that is approaching the ball from the outside, flipping/rolling the hands through the zone and more. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first three possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention. For example, a golfer may have previously deployed a closed clubface at address and/or a strong grip to compensate for a slice due to a steep downswing path. If the path has been corrected, then that same grip can certainly result in pulled shots.
      While there are certainly videos on my channel that address the various potential causes, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

      Yes - This swing key also applies to the driver. Indeed, Rob. How interesting and sad it is that with all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many of those misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness….
