  • Pete Hansen past away in 2018. He was in his 90's and lived a long life. Besides his Acting credits, he was a voice over guy and spokes person. For many years, he did the commercials for Plymouth. This is the height of he Forward Look Period, the 59 Plymouth.

    From before I was born until the day he passed away, my dad had a Plymouth. As a little kid, I remember his 1949, 1953, 1956, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1968 & 1970. There was never any discussion about any other brand and they were all good cars. For whatever reason he liked Plymouth, and he stuck with them all through the years and I don't ever recall any of them giving him any problems. He always had the maintenance done at the recommended intervals and that was all.

      My great-grandfather drove nothing but Plymouths for 30 years, up until the day he passed in 1967 - and then my great-grandmother took over the driving of Plymouths until sometime in the late 80s when she couldn't see any longer. her last Plymouth was a Fury - she LOVED that thing!

    My Mother had this Plymouth wagon in pink with white trim.
    Everyone wanted to ride in the rear-facing seat.
    You could see death coming!😱
    It had a push button automatic transmission.
    I first drove it out in the country when I was 11!!’
    Love that car. It sure would get a lot of attention today.
    My brother had a Plymouth Barracuda. Those were awesome too.

    My dad had a friend who would buy a new car, then not drive it at all for a couple years while he continued to drive his old car. Dad said that didn't make any sense because when he starts driving the new car two years later, the warranty has expired.

      I can think of 3 reasons:
      Weight savings
      Most manufacturers now provide roadside assistance when you buy a new car .
      A lot of people were never taught how to change a flat tire.

    • @joeseeking3572
      @joeseeking3572 3 года назад

      I would MUCH rather have a spare - of any sort - than have to deal with run flats or sit and wait an hour or two for 'assistance.' Give me 10 minutes and I'd be on my way. I've driven on donuts for a week or two while shopping for new tires, and made it home from the beach. With a run flat you've got 50 miles and you're stuck buying whatever tires are available. More or less ditto once you've been towed depending where your flat takes place. There goes all your weight savings fuel mileage. At least they used to still give you tire well nd you could (albeit not cheap) one aftermarket, now even that's gone. Total rip-off, and we all just accepted it.

    That closing shot would have looked better if he had put the spare tire cover back. I'll bet that cover created a lot of opportunities for rust, and just losing that part. Was this the only year that had it?

    • @OsbornTramain
      @OsbornTramain  4 года назад +3

      No, that's not true, a lot of people think this but it's simply not true. Prior to WWII, Chrysler was the second largest builder of cars in the USA, ahead of Ford. It wasn't until after WWII in 1949 that Ford became the second largest manufacturer of cars. Chrysler had a long period of time as the No. 2 company. It wasn't until 1949 that Ford Motor Company sold more cars that Chrysler. Ford had Ford, Mercury and Lincoln, only three Brands, Lincoln and Mercury weren't very big sellers. Chrysler Corporation had Four very popular Brands, Plymouth, Chrysler, DeSoto and Dodge. They consistently outsold Ford thru the 1930's and the 1940's. Chrysler Gigantic MisSteph were their all new 1949 Cars, which were old and dated looking and very conservative where Ford had the 1949 Ford which sold over a Million Copies....that's what pushed Ford into the No. 2 position, Chrysler Mis-step which they never rebounded from. Just as Chrysler was back in the saddle and doing well, 1961 came along followed by 1962.....this Time, AMC with the Rambler pushed Plymouth down again and by this point.....Chrysler never had a chance to be again in 2nd place. The mis-step of the 1961 year and 1962 year is really a shame and prevented Chrysler from regaining 2nd place ever again. Ironically, they are now finally challenging Ford again in the Truck Market. Ford moved ahead of Chevy in the 1970's......but Ram is now ahead of Chevy and GMC and is gunning for Ford. We'll see......
