The flattened detent ball is what makes the action so crisp. Same thing on the North Arm Skaha II, which is unbelievably crisp. I don't know why everyone doesn't do that. Well, I guess it's more labor intensive?
People fooled into believing ceramic is always better. Sharp by Design detent nub is similar and super smooth. Skiff Sr uses steel detent balls. He says the ball wears in a flat spot, doesn't wear further and runs smooth. Generally in high rotation/rep applications, steel bearings actually run quieter, faster, and smoother, than ceramic. In relatively low rep applications such as in knives, steel bearings wearing down isn't much of any issue.
@@davec3651 Thank you for this comment, bro! I had a suspicion this was the case as well. I picked up a magnacut 0562 and was starting to get awful jealous of people with ceramic detent mods. BUT the vanadium and niobium carbides in MC are harder than ceramic anyway. I imagine you want the detent to be harder than the blade for the smoothest feel. To clarify, Grimsmo is using flattened and polished ceramic.. which I think is perfect for RWL34. He just accelerated the break-in process. I assume this wasn't a "steel is always better than ceramic you fools" comment... and more about how it works great here but it really doesn't apply to every use case and isn't always superior.
The Grimsmo brothers definitely don’t get enough credit for what they do, the precision, attention to details, premium materials, fit and finish is like no other!!!
I found John from the machining side before I got into knife collecting and had great respect for him then, but now, as a collector, I appreciate him and his team even more. There is a reason that going completely overboard on tolerances and perfection is called "Going full Grimsmo" 🔪
I’m always amazed at the fall action on this knife it looks like it defies gravity by falling faster than should be possible like a magnet is sucking it home. Nice video as always. I hope u have a good holiday season.
Thanks for the disassembly! This is why I want a Grimsmo. It's what's inside that counts 🌈 ❤😆 Brown knives are a similar kind of deal and with that innovation to adjust the stop pin screws to control the detent and lockup %. I think I heard the Grimsmo Norseman has a similar system... but, I don't know about that. Where did I hear that 🤔 maybe it was another knife...
Love the attention to detail usually over engineering = problem, but this seems like they really researched in testing, and development to produce,an amazing product. Kudos gonna have to check this one out for sure. Ok wow just over 1,000. 😬 i know ya get what ya pay for,but a lil steep for my blood.
If you get a chance sometime, do you mind testing the Lil Native in 10V from REC? Its still in stock, about 290 pieces left, if you got the time/cash or someone that can loan you one that is… Would love to see the results of satin 10V in action

Maybe so!

Yes!!
A work of art, truly a work of art. I like everything about this knife. Thanks Doody
The RobJohnsons Cedar is pretty amazing opened up as well, and so is the Hog House Veli. The interior milling is next level.

Yes! I watch all his videos on RUclips, it’s so cool seeing how these things are made and the lengths they go for perfection

Yeah man it’s bonkers!
Love to see knives disassembly specially used ones
Incredibly cool hidden details! 🤘

Yeah Brown knives are crazy too with the adjustable lockup and detent strength
Still cleaner than what my ears are usually. 😳😆
Get one of those ear cleaners with the camera at the end. It will change your life
@ Maybe Santa will bring me one along with a RASK. 🎅🏻🔪Merry Christmas Kev. Keep it sharp brother and have a wonderful Birthday 👍🏻
I work in a machine shop , never had a problem with junk getting in her, unlike some others 😮,great video Doody👍⚔️✌️
Okay so maybe my theory is correct after all! Haha
Super Clean 🧼
Nice! My Norseman has the same inside scale DOB, Grimsmo is awesome!
That’s rad! Does it have the inscribing on the lockbar insert to?

I thought so too, until I tried one. Then I threw the $1,040 at them
BAD ASS! I definitely want one, but I'm chasing other Dragons 🐉 with other knives... Grails 🏆🍻
Very nice indeed
Not dust proof but definitely precise.

If I got sent one I’d test it
Thanks Dood.
Tight, tight tight!
Nice!!!!!
