I really hated Jamie right from the beginning because of this song. First: what, are Jewish girls not good enough for his Majesty? Second: is there anything Jamie actually likes about Cathy besides the fact that it feels edgy and rebellious to be dating her? He doesn’t say one nice thing about her for herself, just lists a bunch of things he’d be okay with her hypothetically being just so long as she’s not Jewish. What a prick.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT! Tbh the first time I heard it it sounded super insulting to all those Jewish girls and Cathy, especially to be in a sex scene.
It's not because he doesn't like Jewish girls, it's because he's only ever been allowed to date Jewish girls before and now he can break free from that and date someone he actually likes. And, yes, he is saying he doesn't care what she is as long as she's not from his Hebrew school, because every single girl he's been with has been from there and he wants something new. He doesn't compliment her in this song (unless literally calling her a godess multiple times, even if it is a shiksa godess), but he doesn't insult her either. He compliments her plenty throughout the course of the show. I don't get why this is a problem.
Prettttyyyy sure that talking about all of your exes and family during sex is an insult. And as well as the other stuff: Jamie very clearly talks about explicitly disliking girls from Hebrew school, yes, but he also moves on to praise a girl for... Not.. Being Jewish?? Sounds pretty insulting to be told off for that too, for all of his exes sake. It really doesn't need an entire essay about it. He's an asshole anyways.
nonbinaryhadeskid he's not really all that much of an asshole by real life's standards.. have you met literally any guy? They never know what to say and are constantly saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Jamie wasn't being an asshole, just an idiot.
TheatricalLiz Listen, sweetheart, I am absolutely not about to respond to this domestic abuse discarding bullshit you just laid in front of me. Coming from someone who was abused *by a man* and has met plenty so called *men,* I had to skip multiple triggering scenes in that movie because Jamie is just THAT much of an asshole. Don't reply.
The way he sings “I don’t give a shit” is so smooth i stg
A girl said she would marry anyone who sang her this song, so I'm memorizing it

I prefer the original cast version. But this one also not bad.
Jeremy Jordan is freaking amazing!
