  • Rural Heritage visits Brown Farm Pioneer Days in Central City, Iowa to film horse drawn farming, threshing, corn shelling, baling and much more.
Lloyd Brown donated this 84 acre farm and vast collection of antiques and vintage machinery to the Central City Historical Society. Each year the Historic Brown Farm hosts a weekend to give people of all ages the chance to participate in our rich eastern Iowa rural heritage. All proceeds are used to maintain and upgrade the Historic Brown Farm.
In this video Joe interviews Mark Nasbisch who tells us of the legacy of the farm and how it is used today.
We see beautifully filmed video of teams of draft horses and draft mules plowing, discing the fields at the farm. There is even a mini-mule team discing.
There is also a full working outdoor kitchen with a lot of demonstrations. This year there were about 30 vintage tractors sown by local farmers including Farmalls and John Deeres from ages past.
Joe Ruley explains how a corn shelling operation works including the corn elevator, the "picker" or sheller and the exhausted husks. The shown equipment is a Minneapolis-Moline Model-D Corn Sheller from the late 1950's.
Jeff Carnahan operates a horse drawn belt driven hay baler for us. And we see a short clip of a saw mill.

That is why they call it going haywire. Need more men on the boiler to watch the wire.

You should set this up as a charitable organization and file for a 501C 3 so that you would not have to pay property taxes.
