Excellent as always, Julian. I'm liking the look of Stealth Mode and Donkey Trot. Trinity seem to have picked pieces that are a bit more fun this time around.
I'm doing this booklet at the moment I've done king Williams march and pirate stomp have to choose a final One! This video is excellent and really gave me a good idea of what they all sound like. Thanks from Ireland 🇮🇪
Hi, Julian! You are a truly gift to us who can not afford a teacher like us. Just to ask: what kind of knowledge does a child need to know about piano exam? When I register my child in the music exam, do I need to enter code or some special pieces in the book?????Can she use the old one I meant not up to date book? I am a mum, and started to learn how to read music note, using old stuff, is that ok?
Julian love these videos and they are so helpful for my students. Can you check the ending of Donkey Trot please I think there is an error right at the end.
My new piano teacher 😊 Your videos are wonderful. How would you recommend for someone like myself to brush up on basics after not playing for 10 years?
Thanks for your feedback and for visiting the channel Ruth. I reckon do, perhaps what you're doing already, and read through lots of graded repertoire, gradually climbing to see where you're at. Play lots of pieces at each level ...6 or 7 at least. Can you play the scales/arpeggios of each piece you play? You'll have a blast. Be patient with yourself. Play some tunes by ear.
Certainly Benita. A 'cluster chord' is a term we might use to describe a group of notes played simultaneously, so a chord, with many of the notes if not all of them being adjacent to one another. So if we played a group of notes with the palm of our hand we might call this a 'cluster chord'. We use the term where conventional analysis (C minor, C diminished 7th) breaks down.
Hi jullian... could you please let me be clear, in the lesson donkey trot, can one play the written notes in bar number 27 and 28 or that should be played as you played while recording the exam Thanks for your lovely playing ❤
Great idea Praveen, though at the moment these are WAV audio files and are not recorded as MIDI. I'm intrigued to know how your students would use the MIDI files?
Fun fact donkey trot came out in the 2015 to 2017 grade 1 trinity exam my brother was in grade one that moment and also he commented on one of your videos: grade 3 trinity exam all pieces
Thanks so much One doubt though, in the piece Pirate Stomp, bar 10 right hand, there are 2 separate D's, but you have played it as a tie. Just wanted to confirm if it is a tie or not, as there is no marking there.
The 2023 books certainly lean towards film, TV, computer game and pop music, so with that emphasis on contemporary music, more syncopation. The 2021 books are still on the syllabus and combined with the new books there's plenty of variety on the syllabus which includes 56 pieces to choose from at each grade
Sir thankyou for old videos i completed grade 2 exam because of your help.... Now i want to prepare for Grade 4 exam...when you will upload your grade 4 videos sir...
Dear Julian, my child is going to attend year 5 next academic year 2021-2022, however, she is going to learn piano for her 11 plus entry exam for 2022 - 2023. May I ask where should I find the exam book to study as it seems no books yet available to purchase. Can you give me some idea where to buy them please?
I am just learning grade 1 in my piano class every week Saturday so I am just listening all the pieces of grade 1 by the way are you a British person? Yo by a trinity learner Aditya Debnath soouu
Hey Julian, Been practising your grade 1 pieces for a while now, thank you so much for being the reason that I’ve got back to my piano. Could you please clarify something for me? In Arioso, 3rd line of the Bass stave, you have played E and F, where the notes are G and A. Could you please clarify if that is how it is to be played or if I’m reading it wrong?
Sorry, Julian. Wrong notes at the end of "Donkey Trot". 'EE' was right but "-ore" should be C and D sharp. Oops! But your videos are really helpful. I recommend them to all my students!
"Donkey Trot" end notes are played wrong. In 27th measure you played F#G# & F#G# both the hands instead of C#D# & F#G# with left and right hand respectively
I know it's Handel so great composer but I feel like the Passepied is written very badly, especially the first section. The left hand clumsily accompanies rather than the first march that has a lot more melody to the left hand. The dissonance choices and the use of singular semi quavors is odd, along with the phrasong not feeling like it really utalizes the upbeat... Anyone feel the same?
Ur a gift for the students who cant afford a teacher
Thank you julian
Love from India❤
Nice
I've finished grade 1 exam and secured a merit! Thank you for uploading these videos
Congratulations, 👏
Love your videos always....
At the end of piece please check this notes it's ç# and D#, instead of f#-G#
All my regards to you brother ❤❤
Really educative and nice and clean movement of the hands. I particularly like the dynamics of the left hand - lightly does it. Thank you.
Thx Lily - so pleased you enjoyed the video.
I finished grade 1 a long time ago using your videos and secured distinction! Thanks Julian! 🙂
That is awesome! Well done 👏
I REALLY enjoyed these pieces, too🤗 and helped me with my sight reading and to better understand all the nuances
I really enjoyed this collection!! I'm learning to play and I can't wait to have a go at Donkey Trot!! 😊

I don't know whether anyone has mentioned it, but you have the wrong notes in the LH at the end of Donkey Trot! Otherwise, lovely playing.

Thank you, dear teacher!
@julian Can you please explain what cluster chord mean in the "Croc that swaowed a Clock" piece?
Certainly Benita. A 'cluster chord' is a term we might use to describe a group of notes played simultaneously, so a chord, with many of the notes if not all of them being adjacent to one another. So if we played a group of notes with the palm of our hand we might call this a 'cluster chord'. We use the term where conventional analysis (C minor, C diminished 7th) breaks down.

The last two notes in the left hand are wrong in Donkey Trot (3:12). Should be C# and D#, not F# and G#.
Yes, you're quite right Joe.
Hi jullian... could you please let me be clear, in the lesson donkey trot, can one play the written notes in bar number 27 and 28 or that should be played as you played while recording the exam

Thanks for your great videos which we use it as reference. It would be great if you could create midi files for practice by students.
Great idea Praveen, though at the moment these are WAV audio files and are not recorded as MIDI. I'm intrigued to know how your students would use the MIDI files?
Thank you! I had to listen to all the songs in grade one to pick three! Also, did you do the exercises?

Why he played 3rd phrase 2nd bar in pirate stomp 7:12 , D as 4 counts ? If anyone knows it please reply.....
The croc that swallowed a clock... What a tongue twister
Great
For the last waltz.. I could not see the secondo's part. Would you kindly do a tutorial? Thanks so much.
Pls can you recommend a piano method book in preparation to grade 1.
John Thompson's easiest piano course . John Thompson's modern course for piano
Will you manage to do all of the grades 1-8?
1-7 yes.

Yes I completed grade 1
Can anyone guide me how to attend this exam ??
Good
Nice!
Hi Julian, do you teach trinity as well as Abrsm? I would like to know how they differ and if you prefer one over the other
No preferences, they both provide carefully placed stepping-stones for anyone learning. Plenty to inspire and motivate.
Pirate stomp is the best piece
Can you play the last waltz (duet part)?
We can hear both parts of the duet in the video. Is that what you're asking?
love it but shouldn't there be a pause just on the first line after the two lines?
On king William's march
Wowww that's cool 😍
Thanks so much
One doubt though, in the piece Pirate Stomp, bar 10 right hand, there are 2 separate D's, but you have played it as a tie. Just wanted to confirm if it is a tie or not, as there is no marking there.
Well spotted Ramesh, you're absolutely right, there should be two notes in bar 10 rh. My mistake. 😌
I feel like this list is more reasonable than 2023 list. Why does Trinity include many fast-syncopation base pieces in the last syllabus?
The 2023 books certainly lean towards film, TV, computer game and pop music, so with that emphasis on contemporary music, more syncopation. The 2021 books are still on the syllabus and combined with the new books there's plenty of variety on the syllabus which includes 56 pieces to choose from at each grade
Who can believe a someone who’s literally a kid composed a song?? 😱

@@JulianLambert yes, that’s what I missed. Thank you!
Can u please explain the symbols and its meanings...
There will be more detail in the piano lesson videos available through the website. www.julianlambert.org
In Arioso piece. 2 beat rest is below the line ? Is that correct ?
Good question ...but yes. The below-the-line rest, normally used to represent 4 beats, is also used to represent a whole bar .... even in 2 time.
Donkey trot seems a higher level than grade one!!
How though?
Me too
I really love grade one music I thought it was hard but it was easyyy😁
Hey Naga? 😂
In walking together a tempo means what sir...
A tempo means back to the original tempo.
Tomorrow I have trinity grade 1 exam sir you have to bless me 11:21
Why are there no slurs/phrase markings?
