Not sure if most people know this but it is normal to inhale/exhale a bigger amount of air through one nostril and less in the other. This is know as the nasal cycle. It allows for each side to rest through out the day. You will notice throughout the day that it switches around from one side to the other. We have what is called erectile tissue in the nose that causes the nose to block off one side or the other every 2.5 hours give or take. Albeit there are people with deviated septums that do need a surgery to correct it but most people don't have deviated septums. If you want to experience the change from one side to the other lay down on one side and breathe for a bit and you will notice air coming out of one nostril. Then you can lay on your other side and after a few minutes your breathing will change to the other nostril.
