@@mattydeeming493 konsa had a bad season but definitely can be rolls Royce, long term he'll probably reclaim his place although he does look quiet sometimes, I'd like to see him a bit more vocal
Agree Alex, listen these lads are playing more regular than ever, it was always going to take a toll, I think a lot of players will benefit from a slightly bigger break this year. Defence is fist to suffer when the midfield bad so konsa for me is still going to be one hell of a player for us, if he he's vocal he's captain material when he does.
@@mattydeeming493 ye you're right, the competition at the back will get that extra 10% out of them and statistically our goal scoring was good last season, I think we've strengthened where our issues were

With the best 11 discussion we have good problems, I would pick Carlos and Chambers,and I'd probably pick buendia over continuo too, can't see those selections being made opening day though.
The nice thing about our squad is we almost have two good sides so I'm comfortable with whatever the staff think is best to begin with
I can't believe you fellers are still big Watkins fans. He couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo at the moment and hasn't been able to do so for quite some time now. He's been abysmal in pre-season and just because it's "game on" next week doesn't mean he's going to miraculously turn into a half decent striker in the blink of an eye. He's not an out and out striker, he's a winger converted to try and make him a striker - and it shows at this level. He cannot lead the line because he's too predictable. A one trick pony. How many more sitters does he have to miss before he gets the heave-ho?

Well said mate! Every time I read one of your comments, I always agree! I just can’t understand why all these Villa fans saying they hope he will come good!? How can we go into a season hoping our striker comes good!
His finishing dose not frustrate me more than how bad he is with the ball. The amount of times he gets the ball and then we lose possession drives me up the wall.
It amazes me how the fans accept such poor performances. The thing is, they will be the first to moan when we play bad yet they won’t have a bad word said about our worst player!!
50 league goals in 3 seasons. 25 in his first 2 seasons in the Prem. Internationals are judged on competitive games. Only Vardy, Salah, Kane, Son and Mane have more goals than him in open play during the last two seasons in the PL. Scored more than Gabriel Jesus, Richarlison, R.Sterling, and Rashford(Brazil + England regulars) in both the last 2 seasons and scored more than £100m Lukaku last season.
@@sebblackmore3697 it’s not just about goals though Seb. Are you saying Watkins is a better player than Jesus, Sterling and even Ricarlison? All three is those players offer so much more than just goals.
The proof is in the pudding, if Watkins was better than them players then Spurs and Arsenal would have been interested in Watkins instead of Jesus and Ricarlison! If Watkins has performed well, why is he still valued at the same price we paid from the championship. He now has 2 prem seasons under his belt yet he is still valued the same as when we purchased him.

Amazed you all agree on Ramsey, not had a good performance from him since before his injury. If he wasn’t from Great Barr would you still pick him? And anyone picking “touch like a rapist” Watkins over clinical finisher Ings, FFS.
That description of Watkins is a really poor choice of words. I suggest you give that sub - normal head a good wobble.
Watkins has got a lot to prove, his finishing is terrible.
It's being widely reported now that Cam Archer is definitely staying at Villa this season. With five subs allowed from a bench of nine, this should give him plenty of game time, as well as for Kesler-Hayden and Iroegbunam.

Mings would be my third choice.chambers and bailey have been our best players preseason.konsa had a few dodgey games last season but before that was our most consistent so I'd start him.
I would be happy to see archer stay but I think if he is loaned out to a top teir championship side it could do him a world of good. Something like Tammy abraham or Mason Mount in Derby county.
Excellent discussion on the players and we are indeed in a better position with options than for the last few decades. However, my question isn’t so much the playing staff but ‘is the Villa coaching staff up to the job of moving us above a top ten position?’ UTV!
Perhaps there are still too many in the club who are less than 90 minute players and capable of having off games, particularly in our midfield.
The Watkins Ings debate rumbles on but the truth is there's nothing to choose between them, interestingly if you look at goals and assists last season, this is borne out by the numbers as both had 13 goal involvements.
There is a difference, Ings will do better than Watkins would.
